Throwback Thursday -Tree Tattoo
Some years ago, one of my brothers asked me to sketch out a tree design for a tattoo. He wanted a design that showed all four seasons in a circular design. This was what I came up with.
I don’t think it’s very great. Even though it’s round, it’s too stiff and lifeless looking to me. I think it’s a case of me trying too hard to create something and wanting it to look a certain way, instead of just…

Those who dwell...
Those who dwell…
This was a quick one. The quote came to me while I was on a nice long walk this evening and thinking about how being outside always cheers me up and reminds me of what I really want out of life.
Gelly Roll pens on cardstock.

Work in Progress - Rainbow Fish
Work in Progress – Rainbow Fish
Hi, I’m Heather and I like to use all the colors. Layer 1 was Staedtler watercolor pencils, then a light wash to blend, and then I’m going in with prismacolor pencils to add some detail. It’s not quite done yet but I couldn’t wait to share.

Spirograph
Sometimes I enjoy breaking out the old Spirograph – yes, that drawing tool we all played with as kids- and using it to form the basis of a design. For one like this, it doesn’t have much open space, so I just sort of jazz up the outside with some dots and add a little thickness to some of the lines.

Throwback Thursday - Hey Diddle Diddle
Throwback Thursday – Hey Diddle Diddle
A long time ago (1998-1999) in a land far away (Vermont), I was living the dream. I still lived at home with my family (my baby brother was just 7 years old then – awww!) while I attended college. I was a Fine Arts major. I had beautiful long, soft, blonde hair and listened to the same Dave Matthews + Tim Reynolds CD in my car on repeat for possibly the entire three semesters I attended Castleton…

A spring night
Another 6×6 colored paper square. This one is actually green, but it’s hard to see that because the sun had gone down by the time I took the picture.
I intended to make this one more of a landscape than a totally abstract design. Last night’s drawing reminded me of a Dr. Seuss drawing (the tree-like shape, at least), so I built on that here.

A windy night I found some colored paper squares in a drawer today. They're a bit bigger than the usual artist tiles, maybe 6x6, but I immediately was stricken with the urge to draw on one with my white Gelly Roll pens.

Throwback
Today I was going through a bunch of old papers and I came across this drawing from 1999. I was just about to enter my second semester of college. I was majoring in fine arts.
I was pretty impressed with this piece so I though I’d share it here. I don’t remember what inspired me to draw it, or how much time it took. I’m not even that confident I could draw so well now. I want to make more pieces…

Why, yes, more glitter...
Why, yes, more glitter…
I’m pretty excited to be posting this before 10 pm. I might be able to get a full 8 hours of sleep for once.
In other news… I kinda feel stuck drawing Zentangle- style pics. They’re just so convenient because they can be done so quickly.

Glitter pens again!
I forgot to mention in yesterday’s glitter pen post that these are Write Dudes glitter pens.
They are so pretty in person. I don’t know how to show how sparkily they are in a photo, but believe me. Sparkily. So sparkily. They’re the most sparkily markers you’ve ever seen.

Glitter Pens! Today called for a quick doodle, but I busted out the glitter pens to give it a little more flair. I've really got to start taking pics in the daylight.

A whirling swirly thing
Confession: I began drawing this sometime last fall. I saw a Spirograph set in an airport gift shop and thought that the spiral designs would be a cool way to start off a Zentangle style drawing. This was one of my first attempts. (As may be obvious).
If I wasn’t doing this daily art challenge, I probably never would have picked this up and finished it. It’s no masterpiece but with every piece I…

All done! I kinda wish these were watercolor pencils so I could do a bit more blending, but oh well. I think I’m getting better at blending the prismacolor. I just need to remember which color goes where…

No self control
I told myself I was only going to do a quick drawing in one color. The next thing I know, it’s an hour and a half later and I’ve used four colors and my shoulder is aching from being hunched in one position all this time.
I guess there are worse things to be addicted to.
Ideally I’d as some shading to this, but that would require me busting out my colored pencils and I’d probably be here for…
