What are your thoughts on the 1951 Disney film's take on Alice's fall down the rabbit hole? I personally love it. I think the way Alice's dress balloons out like a parachute is an especially inspired idea, as it looks very adorable and makes the scene even more surreal.

The scene where Alice's skirt billows up like a parachute and she falls is very symbolic. That image is so strong that when I first read Lewis Carroll's original story, I was conversely surprised that there was no such scene in the fall! I think that's how good Disney was at impressing the audience with visual impressions. The scene of the fall is interesting, but the scene when the caterpillar recites the crocodile's poem and expresses it with the smoke of a water cigarette is also interesting,I also like the cute interior of the White Rabbit's house, and in particular, I think that the imagination of using the shape of the crescent moon as the mouth of the Cheshire Cat was very innovative at the time. It makes me feel that Walt Disney had to think very hard about how he could entertain people with just images, since he could not play with words like Lewis Carroll did in the novel. The film was not well received at the time of its release due to some elements that have been drastically changed from the original work, Later, it was reevaluated. I was thinking about that scene (setting aside the fact that it is physically impossible). To inflate a skirt like a parachute, it would need to be knee-length and significantly flared to float properly. In that regard, Alice's skirt length is ideal for floating like a parachute.

However, the design of the dress I thought of for Alice's older sister is a long skirt that does not flare much. Therefore, I could only imagine a pitiful scene where the sister tries to float like a parachute but fails to get enough air, losing balance and hitting her head against walls and objects repeatedly (laughs).

Instead, I thought about drawing her holding a large umbrella and slowly descending like Mary Poppins. This way, no matter what she wears, she can gently float down without hitting her head and gracefully land. I thought this would suit the older sister perfectly.

Merry Christmas! I still love the Cheshalice art released by the Disney Store last year, so I decided to draw my own version. The address is cute, and it's adorable how they are giving each other presents that match their image colors.

That is a scene I love very much! However, for me, replacing that scene with another Alice is impossible. In that scene, Alice prioritized her curiosity, acted without thinking ahead, and deeply reflected on her actions. I heard that Walt Disney initially planned to introduce a White Knight in this scene, but instead of Alice being guided by someone, he thought it would be better for her to realize and reflect on her mistakes by herself. Thus, he omitted the White Knight and inserted the "Very Good Advice" scene instead. (This is what I remember, but please correct me if I'm wrong.)

Both Lewis Carroll's Alice and American McGee's Alice cry in their respective stories, but the reasons for their tears and suffering differ. Scenes where characters feel sad are very important as they reveal how the author perceives the character. Therefore, even if you try to substitute another Alice in the "Very Good Advice" scene, unless the character has a very similar personality and actions, it will feel out of place. (This is just my opinion and I'm not trying to deny others who create such fan art.)

I enjoy watching various Alices and appreciating the characteristics and thoughts of each one. Because I sense that Walt's imagined Alice strives to be more polite and ladylike than Carroll's version, the scene where she reflects in "Very Good Advice" seems all the more impressive.
