These are some pretty old darknight hero designs that I still like. The one on the right is the one I will probably end up using.

Making this design read to the viewer as Diluc but also look like he could reasonably be anyone in Mondstadt was hard. I ended up just keeping his original color palette and using fabric to stand in for his hair. You will see in my notes below that the cape/hood does a lot of heavy lifting here looolll.

pushing the asymmetry here. Elongating those rounder shapes by his shoulders and pushing them away. Almost like he’s pushed the more congenial parts of his personality to the side.

I struggled with making him feel agile. I didn’t want to change his physique, but he should also feel like he has a completely different fighting style during Batman duty. I think cape accomplishes this well by making him feel more lanky than he actually is.

Using big, flat shapes and a noticeable lack of layers compared to his daytime wear is also important. This is a very simple, straightforward design with very little to complicate it. Not only does it reflect his straightforward nature, but it also does a lot of work to reveal how Diluc feels about his counterpart identity. It’s just work to him. Nothing special.
