Can I just say that there’s not as big of a difference between Literature and literature as we may think.
When most people think of novels they most often think of classics like pride and prejudice, Frankenstein, Moby Dick, etc. “The greats” and while they are great and have made accomplishments in literature…what accomplishments have they made that you can’t?
Regardless of what your art form may be don’t think that you won’t be great because you think there is an established guideline for what should be great… there isn’t.
Your novel can be great. Your poetry can be great. Your paintings can be great. Your sculptures can be create. Anything you produce can be great.
Just because classics are considered great, it doesn’t mean it’s not worth your doing what you want. You’re a different person with a different personality and what you make will be incredible. Give yourself the chance and others will as well.

Can we have a thread where we explain how we got our usernames?
For instance, I couldn’t think of one so my friend came up with mine. For my other accounts, I wanted to seem like a homely middle aged woman who bakes things for the neighborhood children and offers advice to those in need of it.
What’s yours?

Okay obviously we’ve all noticed how much the Simpsons gets right? Like there’s a bunch of videos of moments from episodes that actually happen in real life.
Don’t you think that it’s strange that they get A LOT of things right? Like that’s just a lot for one show to get right. What if they’re in on something?
What if everything that we know is actually just set up. Like for example, Trump becoming president or Disney buying 21st century FOX or the faulty voting machines or even the ending of Game of Thrones, the list can go on. What if all these things were set up years in advance and they’re just trying to let us know what’s going to happen? Maybe we should all pay better attention.
And I’m not saying that EVERYTHING that they show in an episode will come true and I know that they have a lot of episodes and seasons so they have to come up with various materials to gain people’s attention but really isn’t it a lot? I love the show and I’ve been watching it forever but I just feel like something is up. I know it’s a lot to say that everything is planned years in advance but it almost seems so and almost seems as though whatever we do as normal people will never make a difference unless we’re actually “in.” They’re definitely telling us stuff and we’re just not paying attention.

New York Travel Tip from a New Yorker :)
Don’t get a hotel in the city. It’s going to be a lot of money, you may as well just get a hotel in Staten Island (where there are plenty of buses that go to the ferry terminal {which the ferry is free}) and then you can go straight into the city from there or stay somewhere in Brooklyn and then take the subway to where you want to go. Like get a hotel in literally any other borough because it’ll most likely be cheaper than in Manhattan itself.

PSA: Cheetah Girls
I believe that we can solve inequality using methods from the song “cheetah sisters”
What may that be you ask?
We stand together
We make up one big family, though we don’t look the same

Depression Tip!
There’s certain things that you just cannot be sad doing. Like for example, you cannot be sad when listening to Movin’ Right Along by the Muppets or watching A Goofy Movie or eating dessert!
Just take a happy song, something fun from your childhood, something you love to watch, and some good food and just treat yourself. Treat yourself the way you would treat a sad kid. Just be easy on yourself. Breathe. Drink enough water. Take a nice shower or a bath, stay as long as you want.
Just do what makes you happy, you can always fit it in even if it’s just a happy song in the background while you do your work!
Just take a little bit to forget what’s going on in life and just be a kid again!

We really shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves or take life too seriously because at the end of the day we’re like 60% water

Okay so first thing I want to say is that I’m not 100% Democratic or 100% Republican. I would consider myself independent, I see and understand points from both sides. I’m also half Italian and half Spanish so I’m a mixed race female. I’m actually not a very political person at all and I don’t really like conflict soooo just keep that in mind before you read this.
Ok so I have a lecture class every Wednesday and it always gets back to the same thing. We always get back to the topic of rape. There’s two girls who always bring up the fact that it is more dangerous for a girl to walk outside than it is for a guy. To which everyone thinks that they’re spouting liberal shit and claps when a white guy says “but it’s dangerous for guys to walk outside too, it’s obviously going to be dangerous if you walk in a dangerous place. Guys can be killed, kidnapped, and raped too.” To which I say, “I mean you’re not wrong..."
But the thing is that it isn’t as common. Just because women are speaking out about rape it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen to men and I’m sure there’s plenty out there that have been but don’t want to confess because it’ll be seen as some sort of indelible mark on their manhood orrrr because it’s something that they don’t want to bring up (like women who experience it). When it comes to people speaking about the fact that it happens to men too and that women shouldn’t speak out “complain” about it this is what I have to say.
When you think of cotton candy what color do you think of?
Personally, I think of either blue or most likely pink. Are there other colors of cotton candy? Yes, there definitely is and I’ve seen it. Does that mean that just because blue or pink is the most popular that the other colors don’t exist? No, but that doesn’t change the fact that blue and pink is extremely popular. So we cannot say that the other colors don’t exist but we know that pink and blue is popular. The same way that it’s more common for rape to happen to women then to men and that’s a proven fact. So there’s a reason why more women stay home when it gets dark outside and are more afraid of going out alone and a reason why they stock pink and blue cotton candy rather than any other color. It’s also not that we’re walking in a dangerous area, we could be walking a few blocks from our house going to get ice cream or something and still be scared to go alone.
Anyone could be killed, kidnapped, or raped but it’s just a fact that it’s more likely for select groups of people much like other things in the world.

Just want someone else’s opinion on this
Ok so I went to my room to get ready to go to bed but I’m not tired yet, it usually takes me hours to fall asleep once I get there plus I had to wash up and put my skincare stuff on.
Anyway, while I was waiting for my sister to come out of the shower so I could wash up I put a candle on. Nothing out of the ordinary right???
Well my sister came out of the shower and just to make sure she said, “it smells like something is burning” and I replied “oh yeah I just put a candle on” and then my dad woke up out of his sleep and told my mom to tell me to turn off my candle.
Then my mom came downstairs so that she could go in the shower and came to my room and told me that he said that he’s going to confiscate all the candles from our rooms.
Am I the only one who thinks this isn’t normal?
My whole life my dad has always been extremely paranoid about us putting on candles. Like I’ve had to clear my entire nightstand to put a candle on in the middle of it and he still wasn’t happy about it.
I can’t wait till I move out, the first thing I’m gonna do is light a fucking candle

My dad picked me up from school today and there was some girl walking onto campus and she had a really really low cut shirt on with no bra. My dad said something like “i would kill you or your sister if I ever saw you wearing something like that outside” and I was thinking, yeah I wouldn’t ever wear something like that. Like I could care less she could wear whatever she wants but that’s not for me. I thought it was gonna end there but then he said something similar to “people wear stuff like that to show off everything and then they get raped and go ‘oh I wonder why it happened’” and I was a bit shocked at that. Like I get what he means but no matter how “trashy” an outfit is that’s not a reason to be raped. That’s like getting into an accident with a drunk driver and someone says “well you decided to drive, you should have known someone could be drinking and that they would get into an accident with you. It’s your fault for deciding to drive today.” Like??? No???? That’s not how that works. They should have known not to be drinking and then we wouldn’t have gotten into an accident. Like they should know how to control themselves and not rape people???? It didn’t matter whether you were driving (wearing “provocative” clothing) or not, they’re in the wrong.
Maybe I didn’t explain this 100% clear but I’m sure you get what I mean
