Wow thank you so much! That's so nice of you to say! I actually got it from Amazon. It's a Hugh Tracey Alto Kalimba. They're kinda pricey... but I've been a percussionist for years and I just love how they sound so I invested in one. So worth it :)

alright so at work we get these things called VATS and I totally forget what it stands for but basically its a mat in the shape of a sideways human silhouette and its dark brown and our coordinators will go out in our water and secretly put it down on the bottom and we're supposed to see it within 10 seconds blow a whistle and go after it like it was a struggling person. I was vatted for the first time last night and I failed. it was there for 17 seconds before I blew my whistle. but I didn't go right away. I wasn't sure what it was so I walked over to get a closer look and when I realized I had already counted to 7 in my head. if I had just fucking gone as soon as I saw it I might have passed. I feel like a shit lifeguard and I hate myself right now.

I now realize that I have gotten some of the shittiest advising ever. I'm starting to think I shouldn't have even gone to MCC and just straight to ASU. Though, I know that I wouldnt know as much as I do now if I hadn't. UGHGHH. I'm so mad because I've taken all of these classes for absolutely nothing. And I won't even know if I can turn this around until NEXT THURSDAY because ASU has 50,000 kids living in Tempe.

Alright Bio major here to help.

The reason humans age is actually BECAUSE we need to replace our cells all the time. It's something that happens directly in our DNA.

To put it in the simplest terms:

With the way we copy our DNA, it is impossible to copy every singe nucleotide (A T C G if you remember high school biology). That's just the way it works. So every time our DNA replicates, 5-10 nucleotides get chopped off. Now, our DNA has long long LONG strings of useless DNA code on each end specifically for this reason. They are called telomeres. The strings of DNA code that we need to synthesize proteins and such remains at the very center, and thus stays in tact for a long time. So, we continue rapid DNA synthesis through childhood and early 20's (we grow).

But, soon we get to the end of our telomeres, so our cell regeneration rate almost halts (almost, but not quite. we still need to be able to heal ourselves sometimes). So, we stop growing. And we stay fine for a while. But still, eventually we chop off the last pits of our telomeres. Now every time our DNA replicates, we are chopping off our important DNA. The first to go are codes to our external body (skin wrinkling, hair graying, etc), then you start losing codes for internal body (muscle deterioration, organ malfunction, skeletal deterioration, brain deterioration, etc).

There you have it! Human aging explained on a cellular level. 

P.S. The reason why red blood cells live for such a short time is because they don't have a nucleus or any other organelles to help them self-sustain. They just do their job and then die. But that's okay because our red bone matter exists only to replace red blood cells. The human body is a very fascinating thing.
