Baudelaire lowkey said the same thing about a corpse in one of his poems (Danse Macabre). He was basically saying "come on, everyone finds corpses hot once in a while, and if you pretend you don't you're just acting superior or you're a pussy". I read that in high school and was like NO CHARLES IT'S JUST YOU
Excerpts from the english translation (bear in mind this is about a CORPSE):
Did one ever see a slimmer waist at a ball?
The funereal charms that she's anxious to hide.
Some, lovers drunken with flesh, will call you
A caricature; they don't understand
The marvelous elegance of the human frame.
You satisfy my fondest taste, tall skeleton!
Or does some old desire
Still goading your living carcass
Urge you on, credulous one, toward Pleasure's sabbath?
And do you come to ask of the flood of orgies
To cool the hell set ablaze in your heart?
Inexhaustible well of folly and of sins!
To tell the truth, I fear your coquetry
Will not find a reward worthy of its efforts;
Which of these mortal hearts understands raillery?
The charms of horror enrapture only the strong!
Yet who has not clasped a skeleton in his arms,
Who has not fed upon what belongs to the grave?
What matters the perfume, the costume or the dress?
He who shows disgust believes that he is handsome.
Noseless dancer, irresistible whore,
I'll stop there... There's also that one poem (à celle qui est trop gaie) where he says about a woman "Wow you're so pretty!! One of these nights I'll sneak into your room and stab you and I'll cum in the wound and it will be soooo hot"
You know, I'm all against censorship. Before reading Les Fleurs du Mal for school, I was told the first version was censored, and I thought, eh, people must have been fucking prudes in the 1800s, it can't be that bad... It was that bad. That's why school told us to get the censored version. But hey, I already had the uncensored one at home. So 16 year old me discovered necrophilia thanks to french public school. The french class was taught by a stuck up catholic guy too lmfao, only in here does shit like this happen, vive la République et vive la France
There was this guy in the 1800s - I can't remember his name, but his name is recorded somewhere - who honestly argued that if given the choice between a beautiful woman and a heron, deep down in their most earnest true heart, every man would rather fuck the heron. And he got mad when people denied this, continuing to deny this what he had decided must be an universal truth, instead of praising him for being the only one who was brave enough to finally say it out loud. Like he really thought that every single person telling him "Jesse what the hell are you talking about" was not only denying him, but denying themselves their true desires and perpetuating the apparently massive cultural lie that herons aren't fuckable.
Anyway what I'm saying here is that every once in a while whenever you find yourself in a situation where nobody else is willing to agree with something that you consider the most obvious truth, take a moment to meditate on the possibility that perhaps they do mean what they say, and perhaps they are right. Maybe nobody else but you wants to fuck the heron.

while looking up more strange games about real people last night, i found a 2009 french point and click adventure game where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has a dream about someone overthrowing Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II and uncovering a conspiracy in prague. it was rereleased in 2022 in english as "Mozart Requiem". it wasn't reviewed well but i want to check it out because of how funny it sounds like what the hell gave them this idea

I am stupid. ACTUALLY STUPID.
My bag got wet earlier because I screwed the top of my water bottle badly. I had my charger in there so I took it out to let it dry. Just now I touched it to check if it was wet, but couldn't tell if the inside of the USB port was wet.
So I TOOK IT UP TO MY EAR, to LISTEN TO HOW WET IT WAS. For half a second I was convinced I could HEAR WETNESS.

Everyone knows fear is stored in the balls
my sense of humor is so broken. I'm reading this article for work and "fear conditioning in the rat is stored in the hippocampus" is making me laugh for reasons psychology cannot explain

Hi! Neuroscience person here!
Phagocytosis is not really about getting nutrients for the human body, it's mostly about cleaning up garbage. It's mostly performed by immune cells like macrophages, or, in the brain, microglia. It's about containing and destroying dead cell debris, pathogens, useless synapses, and piles of garbage (like protein aggregates) that accumulate as a result of cellular activity. If you don't get rid of the garbage, your organs will start looking like the streets of Paris when the garbage people are on strike: circulation becomes difficult, it gets all stinky and infected, and eventually if no one does anything the garbage problem makes the city unlivable. The garbage can cause damage or even death to surrounding cells. When it comes to the brain, garbage disposal is extremely important because protein aggregates are the main cause of various forms of dementia.
So I would say a more accurate catchphrase would be that there are cells that eat the garbage in your brain to make it work smoothly :)
Phagocytosis is a method of getting nutrients in unicellular beings (meaning one cell organisms, like the amœba in the illustration in your post) but when it comes to multicellular organisms, they have a whole system designed for obtaining nutrients and they don't rely on phagocytosis for it. Although the recycling that can happen after phagocytosis is always an nice bonus.
Kudos if you read that whole review article because it's long af and very intimidating when you're not used to scientific articles.
Hey, did you guys know..
Your brain is eating itself, like right now.
Well, kinda sorta not really, but that opener sounded a lot cooler than “the cells in your brain are using their plasma membrane to absorb and destroy larger particles”
Basically, the cells in your brain find something that they decide shouldn’t be there for whatever reason, so naturally they engulf and digest it before essentially… burping it out.
Anyway, here’s a diagram:
Tumblr media
As you can see, this is how our brains eat (i’m pretty sure, check me on it if i’m wrong), and this is a very necessary process called phagocytosis, and it plays a role in the brain/body getting nutrients (: good job cells!
I am not a neuroscientist, all of my information comes from this link:

Y'all this is IT
I found my master's internship, with an almost certain opportunity for a PhD lined up right after.
I enjoy life again. Neuroscience is life. Life is beautiful. I can't wait to mess with those fruit flies for a living. I'm gonna be PAID. To do SCIENCE. Not even the kind of science that's likely to develop treatments for useful shit, no, the "we wondered if the BinGBonG protein affects calcium signaling in Kloppenschmitz cells and what the consequences are for tapdancing behavior in D. eeznut juvenile females" kind of science.
