Something that I have been working on for a class was a self portrait from life. In the beginning, I was terrified of this project. When it comes to my art style it’s nothing close to realism and people is one of my favorite things to draw. I have a very cartoony style bigeyes, small mouth, very simple nose, nothing like realism. Before this project I had never even tried to draw a realistic person with pencil and paper. We had the option to do it in colored pencil or pastels, but in my opinion, I think I could tackle this the best with graphite pencils. It was something we had worked with before and something that I feel like I had made major improvement with, so that’s why I decided on the pencils. I then looked up some tips and tricks to help with making a realistic portrait and found the right angle in the mirror for me to do it in after I got the base shapes down it didn’t seem so scary. The hardest part for me with my hair. At first I had made it too long and because I mixed a little bit of charcoal into the strands. I was scared that I wasn’t going to be able to erase it, but after some time of gently pulling the graphite in charcoal away, I was able to get it where I wanted it to. With shorter hair, the portrait looked more like me, since I do not have hair that goes past my chest after getting the hair done in the big shadows of my face. The next intimidating part was my glasses. I wasn’t sure how to do it at a 3/4 view but with some light sketching I feel like I was able to make it correctly. Then I just added Some more shading and decided to shape the background as well. I thought if I should the background it would make the lightness of my skin pop and the light shadows that are created on the creases of my face stick out more. In the beginning it was challenging because of my lack of experience and the difference between my normal style in realism, but in the end, I feel like I succeeded pretty well.

My thoughts on an artist!
I was recently exposed to an artist, while looking for a place to get a tattoo. The guy I normally go to lives and operates out of Pennsylvania. Well looking, I found an artist named Peg. She works at a Canandaigua and a tattoo parlor called lady luck. she focuses more on floral designs and animals along with some semi traditional tattoos. I talk to her father day about a tattoo that I want, and even though her customer service was not great, I like the way that she tattoos especially when it comes to floral designs. I’ve always wanted to get a flower, since flowers or something that I really like and she does some pretty flawlessly. I might not get the bold and traditional flower. That she normally strives for but some thing like the flower below it’s softer than traditional, and I really like the way she does leaves. In the end, I know you were looking for a more traditional artist, maybe someone who paints or draws, but this is my favorite type of artwork, and I’m always looking for new artists that are closer to me since my main tattoo artist lives so far away. Getting tattoos of something that I really enjoy because not only do you have art on your body for the rest of your life but you also have the artistic touch of whoever your tattoo artist is on your body. For me when it comes to a good tattoo, it feels like you’re sort of a walking billboard of sorts. If someone likes your tattoo, I’ll ask where you got it, and if they ask where you got it, you have a chance to raise awareness about an artist that you wouldn’t have previously had, which I think is awesome.

Here’s something that I was working on recently and also finished.
It’s based of a Japanese artists album cover. Originally I had drawn in in sketchbook, but that one was just penicillin on paper. Soon after, i had to get larger paper for a different class and thought “Hey, why not make this into a poster?” I thought it would be a fun idea, considering I had all of the details already planned out in my sketchbook, and had the time and resources to pull it off.
So first, I drew in in pencil. Not everything is accurate to my sketchbook drawing, considering the different sizes of paper, but i was able to get everything i wanted within it with no problems at all. Even though it took me forever to even do the sketch, (because I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my art), I persevered! There were a few times i had to put it down and do other things for a while, mostly because i have issues with my wrist, but whenever i needed a break I would go back to it and carve the rest out piece by piece.
The lining, which was done with micron pen, took the longest. All the black you see in the photo was gone with an 8 point micron pen because the ink appears more ‘black’ then that of a sharpies. After that i found the most obnoxious and bright sharpies I owned, contrasting them with the darker shades of blue and purple. In the end it took me over two months to finish since I was also busy with work and school, but in the end it was a really fun draw!

Zentangle Reflection
In the beginning, I didn’t think I was going to like them. They just seemed tedious and something I could do within minutes, but turns out there really fun! I mean the latter thought is true, but that something that adds to it. You can do this anywhere, anytime as long as you have a piece of paper and a fine point pen. Turns out I actually really like doing them, and even designed a card to my mom based off of the designs taught to me from the book.
Speaking of the book, it does exactly what I need for it to do to make me understand. By adding step by step photos, along with word directions on how to do each tangle, I’m able to understand it a lot more. I personally am a visual learner, always have been and always will, so this helps me a lot.
I also like the creative freedoms that I’m able to have well doing these zentangles. Not a single on has to be exactly like it is in the book. Yes, some are harder then others and I’ve decided to stick close to the book designs, but where’s the fun if you don’t have a few challenges a long the way?
In the end 10/10 stress reliever

Me as an artist…
Well, I’m definitely not a realism artist, that for sure. I lean more into a cartoony and anime type of style. Sorta like a simplified version of anime drawings, the big eyes and lines for lips with and American outlook. I mostly do pencil on paper and digital, but sometimes I will dabble in things like painting. I’ve been doing art my whole life, the setting and style just have changed. My goal at this moment in time (Up for change in speculation) is to be a graphic artist in advertising. At first I wanted to be a tattoo artist, but turns out if you go from drawing 2-3 hours a day to 8 or more, it can be damaging to you’re wrist. Instead, I’ve decided to do it as more of a hobby! Most of my inspiration comes from eastern culture, Japan and Koran especially. As I’ve stated before, manga and anime alike has drastically inspired me and my style. To be able to make my own comic one day would honestly be a true blessing, but I’m far from that right now. I can draw shoulders up great… but its when you get to everything else that id start to loose you.
I do a lot of drawing of this one, overly simplified cat, but there’s a reason for that! A lot of artist nowadays have what I like to refer to as an ‘artsona’ and this unnamed cat? Well its mine! It helps me a lot when I’m in an art block, because of its simplicity but wide arrange of ideas that I can do with it!
Oh and I really, really like pockadots.
Here’s some pictures of both the cat and lots of dots! Also an angel.
