So my Lavellan has a very not-canon friendly background because I had an idea and it won't let go, but very short version -

She's spent a lot of her life learning about ancient elves and learning to justify the Dalish's cultural choices, including the vallaslin, so she doesn't let Solas remove her vallaslin because she truly believes that the meaning behind the tattoos has changed among (most) of the living elves.
