living in the city is very noisy, sure. but ur working with a cacophony of sounds at all times. what i find very very annoying about living in the suburbs is that every single weekend morning there is one (1) leaf blower that starts running by 8 am and doesnt stop till 1 pm. why????? why are you blowing leaves around your yard every free morning you have that can not be psychologically rewarding

on the topic of Mickey 17:
i loved the scene when Mickey and Nasha first meet, first day on the ship, when Marshall is brimming with bullshit and hyping up the ship into a controlled mass- those two had stolen away to make love. and while Marshall is bullshitting about repopulating and the grand purpose of sex being for reproduction and the creation of a Perfect Race, these two are just fucking for pleasure. cause they wanted to. they don’t care to worship the false god, they found something better to worship. i just loved the presentation of this relationship beginning with the visual how little of a fuck they give about the peacocking of a politician and how into each other they were immediately. and of course, love wins and their relationship lasted longer than the deranged power grab from a very recognizable dumbass

I'm just in love with how they faked-out the love triangle--love square? It would have been so dull and distracted from the main plot but instead Nasha says NO he's not a THING he's Mickey. My Mickey. And Seventeen bolts out of that room and you think there's going to be this huge showdown with Eighteen but instead he's already told her everything. Because he's simmering with rage and wants to kill people but he's still Mickey and he's still utterly in love. And then you think Seventeen and Eighteen are going to go at it but Nasha's happy and Eighteen loves him too ohhhh I'm going to be sick. They said what if the protagonists were genuinely in love and solved their problems together. <3

Something I really liked about Mickey 17 was how human everyone was. Like, people stuttered and didn't always finish their thoughts, assholes live to be assholes another day, there were conflicting political opinions throughout the colonists, there were arguments on the loading docks about parking and people sharing food. It felt like those were real people, and it paid off at the end when there were multiple people working to get mister-wannabe-dictator to stop. Like! Yeah reasonable people Would try to bring these people to trial and work to communicate with aliens and vote to get rid of a body printer because these are People! It was just a nice touch, and also made sense for how Mickey is very much Not a hero, he's just a guy trying to live his life. Everyone's just trying to live their life, so everyone contributes to solving the problems.

AND ANOTHER THING. The way that everyone was saved by a single moment of absolute kindness and compassion? Nasha didn't have to try that hard to save the single baby creeper. It was already injured, stabbed through, probably dying. She didn't have to jump forward, allow whatshisname to try and embarrass her further, to strain and try and do everything to give it just a bit more of a chance. But she does, because one death is not acceptable. And she saves them all in doing so.

I was interested in the printer “stuttering” every time it printed out Mickey. It got so far, stopped, pulled him back in, then sent him back out again. There was a similar visual when 17 and 18 were heading out into the snow and the rising metal door jammed, stopped and started again. I wonder if it means anything.

i like subtle nuanced themes as much as the next guy but you can't argue with the bong joon ho method of hitting you in the face with a sledgehammer

nasha barridge is the character of all time. she's a firefighter and a security guard and a martial artist. she loves her pathetic ass boyfriend more than anyone. dating two clones at once isn't a dealbreaker for her. she can snap a fascist's neck with her legs while holding onto a rope with her teeth. she breaks down giggling over doodles of stick figures having sex. she starts a riot in the cafeteria to defend her boyfriend from bullies. she's stayed with her boyfriend while he dies more than once. she's compassionate and wise and supportive and also jealous and hotheaded and messy. and she's in space!
