I think as a culture we have all forgotten that fandom is supposed to be fun.
It’s not that serious.
It was never supposed to be that serious.
Especially since most of the drama and hurt revolves around shipping.
All of the ships are fictional. Being canon doesn’t actually negate the fact that the ship isn’t real.
No ship, or any aspect of a fictional universe, is important enough to treat another real life human being badly.
It’s not that serious.

"Antis' foundation is the belief that fiction affects reality, in that any problematic behaviors or topics in media, fictitious or not, will cause people to normalize those behaviors, resulting in people (specifically minors) thinking that such actions are acceptable in real life. This is a common argument used by conservative groups to enact queer censorship, who argue that children who see LGBTQIA+ characters in television or books will "turn gay" (Bollinger 2019), so the sanitization of all adult fan spaces is therefore required to protect minors who could potentially encounter problematic sexual content (BrazyDay 2019)....
Antis attempt to glorify their ideology by rebranding it as antipedophilia and anti-incest, but it is actually a loose ideology of disinformation, virtue signaling, and legitimate abuse. Similar to the QAnon cult phenomena, which began in 2017, anti dogma is designed to promote paranoia and play off people's fears and emotions to spread disinformation. They band together to perform this function, forming what might be called a cult, a term that has been defined as a group having a "great devotion to a…movement". However, what truly marks a cult is the control attempted over behavior and thought. Participants in anti circles perpetuate a climate of fear, shame, and trauma in fan spaces. The most common targets of such abuse are women, people of color, teens, abuse survivors, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Fans who are already marginalized are further deprived of safety, anonymity, outlets for growth, self-expression, and relationships. It is therefore vital that we closely monitor hate speech in fan spaces and study these behaviors. Our failure to do so may open doors for bigotry, violence, and disinformation."
From The cult structure of the American anti which was a fascinating read and genuinely worth going through if you're in fannish spaces.

fun fact!! telling people to hurt themselves/k-ll themselves over the internet can get you in big trouble!!
if you tell someone to kill themself and they actually do it you can get in even bigger trouble!!
lets not forget cyberbullying is a crime!!
spamming someone with death threats n stuff is harassment over the internet which is illegal!!

I've never seen a more toxic fandom than the Star Wars one. Phew you guys really love to go to the extremes. Lemme help clear up some stuff for yall since there's some confusion, and demonizing the proship term is causing a lot of unnecessary damage and harm to people in all fandoms.
Pro vs Anti 101: What They Are
Both sides have squicks and triggers. Both sides have boundaries and certain topics they don't like. Both sides don't condone or support certain things.
Proship = default setting. "Ship n let ship." They're the "It squicks me, but I scroll by and/or block" crowd. The "I don"t care what you ship" crowd. The "neutral" crowd also falls under this category. Very basic. The "I don't like this so amma move on with my life" folks.
Antiship = radicals that harass and bully, demonize and dehumanize anyone that doesn't agree with them about their hatred for certain ships. The ones who make their squicks everyone else's problem. Often known for inciting violence against those they don't like.
So say you get squicked by something. If you block it and move on, congrats. You're a proshipper. That's literally what a proshipper does and all one is. Antis wouldn't do that. They'd send hate and harass whoever posted the thing that squicked them, possibly incite violence against them also. The difference is the harassment. If you bully somebody over a ship, you're an anti. If not, then you're the default setting, a proshipper. Do NOT be proud of the anti label. It means you're a violent bully.
That is the only difference.
Learn the terms and actual meaning of them before you come for somebody or have something fucking stupid like "DNI Proshippers" in your bio, good lordie 🙄
