So. Much. Skin.
I’m breaking the model down into sections and working that up to completion. I would get bored otherwise doing the whole body.
Doing it bit by bit shows me what it will look like when completed and it keeps me motivated.
The shoulders and some other body parts have little ridges. I’ve highlighted them up, then put a light brown wash in the creased. I’ve seen this done on some other Fimir and think it looks good.
There still a lot of skin to do, but the model is coming together and I rather like him. Looking forward to painting another couple.
I’m off on a family holiday for a couple of days, so the streak will be broken, but I’ll be back at it on return.

Continued on with the Fimir today. I finished the belly plate armour. I used Army Painter Dragon Red and Vallejo Bright Brass.
I’m really happy with how it turned out. It has a classic Khorne look, and I think it will look good next to the green skin. Only time will tell…
The back of the model has these armoured ridges, like a crocodile. I initially was just going to paint them the same colour of the skin, but used an olive colour instead. It adds nice visual interest and variety.

Hello,
I've greatly enjoyed watching the cast terrain come together. It's kinda wild to see someone else who bought the molds, I've never seen them mentioned for the last few years. My question is two fold: what do you use as your casting material and how do you get the non-detailed side flat?
Best regards
G'day,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I'm fairly new to Tumblr and not familiar with all its functions.
I know what you mean about not seeing them regularly, I think most people use 3d printers nowadays for terrain, but I prefer to make stuff with my hands.
I initially used plaster of paris for my molds, but recently started using Gyprock Fine Detail plaster. I think this is an Australian brand, but I'm not sure. I switched over to Gyprock as its only $16 for a 20kg bag which should last forever. I get it from a nearby trade outlet.
I use a plastic, wide paint scraper. I use one which it roughly the width of the molds so I can scrape it in one go.
Cheers,

Arrgh!!! I got distracted again!!
After completing my Hero Quest torture rack, I ended up starting a Fimir.
Fimir are a unique GW monster, so finding a similar proxy is virtually impossible. Fortunately, the same 3d sculptor who did the Elf I posted earlier, also does several Fimir re-sculpts which are great.

Some minor odds and ends completed today.
That’s it!! All the casting a glueing done now, onto the build proper.
We had a massive thunderstorm this afternoon which knocked out the power for a day and a half, so late post but the work got done!

Last of the wall sections done. There are a couple of small pillars and supports to do, but this is the last wall, finally.

Finished the torture table. I completed this piece with Army Painter paints. I’ve had them for a while, and I use them here and there. They have a slightly different consistency, which I haven’t gotten the hang of yet.
But, I guess all paint ranges are different and have adjustment periods.
They have a nice finish which I quite like. The colours pop, in person.
I also used some of their blood effect on the manacles, which I haven’t used before. It turned out great, although I probably should have done it after I varnished it. I’ll probably go back over it to keep it glistening.
I liked this piece so much I even knocked up a quick action shot!

I got stuck into the torture table today (that sounds weird!).
It’s such a nice piece to paint with big, chunky, fun details.
Got all the base coating done, washing and started on some of the highlights.

This might be the second or third last wall section I’ve got to build.
Base coated and washed the torture table.
It would seem I jump around from project to project, day to day, and to a certain extent I do.
I could probably do with a bit more focus on projects to their completion, that being said, in order to keep the wheels turning in the hobby room on work days I have to do work that is quick and easy.
So, on work days I concentrate on quick builds, base coating and washing and on days off I try to work on layering and highlighting.
Anything to keep ticking along…

Some floor tiles for the different floors of the ruined castle.
I’ve played Hero Quest since I was very young, and I’ve had a side project of painting up a full set going for several years now.
Whilst most of the original miniatures have been lost, and I’ve replaced them with modern variants, I’ve still got most of the furniture and I think it’s very charming.
They also serve double duty as treasure tokens, or objective markers in skirmish games.
This is the alchemist’s desk and torture rack, undercoated, ready for a lick of paint.

Here is the floor plan for the Ruined Fieldstone Castle project.
I’ve glued it to 3mm MDF, then cut it to shape.
Only a couple more small wall sections to finish before the building starts!

After finishing up one Viking test model yesterday, I did some work on this Berserker as well.
He was also a test model for Saga, but was only undercoated. I got a fair amount done on him today, in particular his wolf skin cloak turned out nice.
Small staircase for the Ruined Castle.

Layered up his boots, bracers and belt. I’m fairly happy with how it looks next to the pants.
I think the green tunic will help tie it together.
I’ve had this guy on my desk for some time, and I cranked him out today.
My intention with him was to work on a scheme that the colours went on easy, worked well with washes, and that I liked.
I did this thinking I might paint a Saga force, and wanted a scheme I could replicate at scale.
That project fell by the wayside somewhat and he sat on my work desk, staring accusingly at me, but now he’s finished and in the varnish line. Hurrah!!

Beautiful weather in the morning. Beach weather? Forget that nonsense, varnishing weather!!
Got the Youngblood and a Henchmen for my Reiklander warband done, plus a Warg from the Descent board game.
I plan on using the Warg for random encounters during Frostgrave games.
Finished off the base coating for the elf, and highlighted the pants.
Might need to push the highlight a bit more, not sure though. I find it helps to highlight the surrounding parts as well to get a proper sense of the colour.
Obligatory wall picture.

Finished off my Youngblood today, if the weathers good tomorrow I’ll probably varnish him, along with some others.
Still chipping away at this Elf, got his bag and shoulder armour (mantle ?) base coated.
What would a daily post be without walls?
