Where to go in Tehran
Explore
- Bazar Bozorg | one of the oldest areas of Tehran, people working there have probably been in the business for decades and are beyond funny, hard working and welcoming. Talk to them!!!! Also I’m a home food kinda person but you HAVE to try Chelo Kabab Eslami it’s the most iconic restaurant in Tehran (fight me on this) it’s a very “eat and go” super busy place but 293890348% worth it.
- Bazar Tajrish | same as Bazar Bozorg but has a completely different feel to it. Have fruit smoothies there lol also go to the mosque in the centre, it’ll take your breath away
- Bame-Tehran | who wouldn’t want a view of Tehran?? I prefer going at night but honestly it doesn’t matter whenever you go, you might cry
- Kakheh Niavaran and Saadat Abad | Both castles are honestly worth paying for. There are lots of art galleries hidden in them and you’ll get a feel of pre-revolution Iran. Kinda sad but everything is pretty.
- Kakheh Golestan | this one’s older than the other two and the architecture will leave you feeling dazed
- Khiabon Enghelab/Enghelab Road | second hand books!!!!!!!! and ton’s of cool galleries (find some before you go it’s incredibly busy there) also famous famous cafe naderi. Go see the place where every iconic writer or poet at the time used to hang out in. They actually have very old baristas who have met all these people. It’s surreal, just go
- Niavaran | my fav area in the city make sure you visit their shahre-ketab/book city and buy the handmade things and support local artists!!
- Karim Khan | another fav area, go to the bakery cafe in Khianbon Villa/Villa Road it’ll blow your mind also the whole road is a traditional + handmade selling point its amazing. There’s a cafe close there called Cafe Tehroon it was an old house made to a cafe it’s too beautiful you’ll cry
- Darband | saved the best for the last truly. (arguably) My fav place on Earth
To do
- Go to the theatre!! there are tons of plays going on in tehran and they are all very very good I have never been to a bad one. Theatre in Tehran is very much loved and supported (meaning pre-buy your tickets)
- I know it sounds strange but…ride the underground trains. Every stop has it’s own theme, all very artsy and cute.
The explore list has a lot of to-do tbh I’ll stop here
Parks
- Tehran is well loved for its parks, but Park-e-Abo-Atash/ Water and Fire park with the famous Pole-Tabiat/Nature Bridge is pretty much the best park in the city
- Jamshidieh Park..if you’re a nature lover
- Park Gheytarieh, i have a soft spot for this park it has the best atmosphere

how to write that 17-page essay that’s high-key giving you anxiety
so it’s 4am and you’ve had three cups of coffee but you’ve only written two sentences. you look at the prompt and find it has ceased to make sense. “how the fuck am i gonna turn this into a 17-page paper” you ask.
never fear! your friendly neighborhood college fuckup is here with an answer. buckle down and get another cup of coffee; you’re in this for the long haul. (literally. this post got long because i’m apparently incapable of writing short posts, but i also pulled a 3.9 cGPA using this method so i’d say it’s worth the read.)
first, a cheat: email your professor and ask if you can use subheaders. subheaders eliminate the need for smooth transitions between portions of your argument and also create a ton of white space, which can help you reach page count.
second, a tip: don’t be afraid to meet with your prof. this essay probably isn’t a take-home exam; it’s likely that your prof set this paper to give you a chance to learn and write about something you enjoy. shoot your prof an email saying “hey, this is what i’m thinking, this is what i’m struggling with, can i meet with you to talk it out?” 9 times out of 10, your prof will say yes. if they say no, talk to another prof in the same discipline. otherwise talk to your uni writing center or a friend of yours. worse come to worst, shoot me a message.
what you’re gonna do now is outline the fuck out of your paper to procrastinate actually writing it.
step 1: take apart the prompt. it’ll be asking for a few different things; mark these things with different cues: brackets, underlining, different colored pens, whatever. this structures your response.
if you don’t know your thesis yet, that’s fine! let it develop naturally as you conduct your research and plan your argument. you can change it as you go - that’s the point of researching the topic. no one will know what your first draft thesis was.
step 2: look at the dismembered prompt. write bullets with brief explanations for how you’ll attack each part of the prompt. these can be detailed or as vague as “look up that one reading and use it as a counter argument.” then figure out the best way to organize the bullets. if nothing makes sense, that’s fine too. you can write each chunk of your argument and structure it later.
these bullets make good subheaders. js.
step 3: under each bullet from step 2, list out what info and evidence you need for that aspect of your argument. don’t worry about details yet; focus on structure. write these bullets as though you’re talking to a friend about what your argument is and why is works. let it be stupid. let it be simple. say shit like “freud was a bitch and i can prove it.”
step 4: now that you have a rough draft of your outline, go back and fill in the details. remember, you’re still outlining! you’re basically redoing step 3 with the bullets you made in step 3. this is the part where i take the most time and put in the most effort.
i tend to reach page/word count easily if my outline is half the length the paper needs to be, so i keep outlining until i reach that point. this ratio might be different for you. if you can figure out your ratio, it can tell you if you need to look for more info or if you’re good to go.
make a note of what you’re citing but don’t worry about actual citations. i like using gdocs because you can easily paste a link to your source in a comment. this way, the sources don’t clutter up your doc or artificially inflate your page or word count.
be silly! be stupid! use swear words and memes and internet lingo. you’re just outlining right now; you don’t need to sound smart and professional. you should be focusing on what you want to say, not how to say it.
by the end of this process, my outline is basically my paper in bulletpoint format, without any fancy jargon or quotes or cited evidence, and usually not in complete sentences. i’ve essentially tricked myself into writing my paper by saying “i’m just outlining, it doesn’t really matter.” it’s also less daunting to write the rest of the paper when you know you already have 9 pages done instead of 0.
step 5: write the damn thing! open a fresh doc for your paper and view it side-by-side with your outline. now you get to make your bullets sound pretentious and academic. insert quotes and other evidence. turn “freud was a bitch” into “freud knowingly perpetuated several falsehoods for the sake of his personal gain, thereby undoing decades of progress in the field of psychology.”
don’t worry about citations right now, though! do what you did in your outline and insert the citations as comments at the points where they need to be. creating citations will interrupt your flow.
step 6: once your paper is done, go back and add citations! this can take up to an hour depending on how many sources you have, so budget your time appropriately.
holy shit! you just wrote a whole damn paper! i’m proud of you, buddy. go buy yourself a milkshake and take a nap.

I havent seen anyone talk about this yet so im making a post.
So lets say you’re researching something for a paper (or just for fun) and the research paper you want to read is behind a paywall, or the site makes you create a account first, or makes you pay to download, or limits you to only 5 free articles, or otherwise makes it difficult for you to read what you want.
Tumblr media
do not fear! copy the link to the article
Tumblr media
go to sci-hub.se         (the url is always changing so its best to check out whereisscihub.now.sh to find what the current url is)

VIDEO: Living Under Israel’s Missiles
Four boys of the Bakr family were killed by a missile strike during last year’s incursion. Their surviving family members are still scarred from the attack.
More than anyone, children bear the brunt of regular Israeli military assaults on the Gaza Strip. During the 51-day war in the summer of 2014, 551 children were killed and 3,436 were injured. But these gruesome figures say little about the psychological state of the nearly 800,000 children who have survived the periodic bombing campaigns. After the final cease-fire that ended Israel’s Operation Protective Edge on August 26 of last year, UNICEF estimated that at least 425,000 Palestinian children in the besieged Gaza Strip require “immediate psychosocial and child protection support.”
[ The physical wounds of Gaza children might have healed, but they live with enduring psychological trauma ]

‘am i Having A Brain Problem or Being a Shithead’: a short procrastination checklist
aka why tf am i procrastinating on The Thing (more like a flowchart, actually)
lots of people who have executive function difficulties worry about whether they’re procrastinating on a task out of laziness/simply wanting to be a jerk or mental struggles. this checklist might help you figure out which it is at any given time! (hint: it’s almost never laziness or being a jerk.) (obligatory disclaimer: this is just what works for me! something different might work better for you.)
1) do I honestly intend to start the task despite my lack of success?
yes: it’s a Brain Problem. next question
no: it’s shitty to say one thing & do another. better be honest with myself & anyone expecting me to do the task.
2) am I fed, watered, well-rested, medicated properly, etc?
yes: next question
no: guess what? this is the real next task
3) does the idea of starting the task make me feel scared or anxious?
yes: Anxiety Brain. identify what’s scaring me first.
no: next question
4) do I know how to start the task?
yes: next question
no: ADHD Brain. time to make an order of operations list.
5) do I have everything I need to start the task?
yes: next question
no: ADHD Brain lying to me about the steps again, dangit. first task is ‘gather the materials’.
6) why am i having a hard time switching from my current task to this new task?
i’m having fun doing what i’m doing: it’s okay to have fun doing a thing! if task is time-sensitive, go to next question.
i have to finish doing what i’m doing: might be ADHD brain. can I actually finish the current task or will I get trapped in a cycle? does this task really need to be finished?
the next task will be boring/boring-er than the current task: ADHD brain. re-think the next task. what would make it exciting? what am I looking forward to?
I might not have enough time to complete the task: ADHD brain wants to finish everything it starts. (if task is time-sensitive, go to next question)
i just want to make the person who asked me to do it angry: sounds like anxiety brain trying to punish itself, because I know I’ll be miserable if someone is angry at me. why do i think I deserve punishment?
no, I seriously want to piss them off: okay, i’m being a shithead
7) have I already procrastinated so badly that I now cannot finish the task in time?
yes: ADHD brain is probably caught in a guilt-perfection cycle. since I can’t have the task done on time, i don’t even want to start.
reality check: having part of a thing done is almost always better than none of a thing done. if I can get an extension, having part of it done will help me keep from stalling out until the extension deadline. i’ll feel better if I at least try to finish it.
no, there’s still a chance to finish on time: ADHD brain thinks that I have all the time in the world, but the truth is I don’t.
reality check: if i’m having fun doing what I’m doing, I can keep doing it, but I should probably set a timer & ask someone to check on me to make sure I start doing the task later today.
8) I’ve completed the checklist and still don’t know what’s wrong!
probably wasn’t honest enough with myself. take one more look.
if I’m still mystified, ask a friend to help me talk it out.
hope this helps some of you! YOU’RE DOING GREAT SWEETIE DON’T GIVE UP ON YOU

counting blessings, studyblr edition
having a roof over my head to study in
having the opportunity to go to university
having had role models and peers in my life who pushed me to be driven academically
having had the means to buy assessment books and study guides
having had the means to buy books to encourage my reading habit from a young age
not having to worry about finances to the point where pursuing higher education would be impossible
a little overwhelmed at the moment with uni life, so I’m trying to remember these things and find a different perspective. what are you grateful for?

gloing up for the new year 🌟
so these can be used all year round, i just thought it’d be a good idea to make a post about it for new years because it’s a good point for starting fresh.
👑 bring lip balm with you everywhere. dry, cracked lips aren’t cute.
👑 get into new music! love a certain band and want to find artists similar to them? https://www.music-map.com is the place to go!
👑 clean up your phone/social media. unfollow people you need to, delete contacts and old posts. go thru your camera roll, delete unnecessary apps.
👑 buying a water bottle helps you drink more water. i have a contigo one i bring everywhere and it helps me stay hydrated.
👑 try wearing accessories. scarves, necklaces, chokers, rings, bracelets, you name it. they’re good additions to your style.
👑 get a hair cut or trim your split ends. dye it if you want! go for that crazy color! sally beauty has a lot of hair dye options.
👑 keep your fingernails/toenails clean and trimmed.
👑 go on a shopping trip. it doesn’t have to be big. maybe freshen up your wardrobe with a couple new outfits, or buy a couple things you’ve been wanting to.
👑 go through your makeup. throw out expired or old products and organize what you have left.
👑 if you haven’t already… start a skincare routine! girl if you don’t take care of your skin…it won’t treat you well. find one that works for you.
👑 cut off those damn people that are interfering with your vibe already!
👑 if you wear makeup, experiment with different things. try different colors, try false eyelashes, try new techniques. but remember you do NOT need makeup, it is just for fun!
👑 put your phone/device down more. when you’re with friends, family, out in public, try to refrain from letting it distract you. you’ll find yourself more attentive and enjoying people and activities more when you put the electronics down.
👑 compliment people! if you ever think you’re “too shy” to, just think how the compliment will make the other person feel. just do it. it’s an amazing feeling.
👑 keep a good posture. not only is sitting/standing/walking up straight better for your body, but it makes you look more confident.
👑 keep things clean. whether it be you, your room, house, pets, yard, etc. maintain them. it really helps.
👑 learn when to say no. don’t be a doormat. go with your brain, not your heart. don’t feel bad for saying no, either.
👑 if you have a hobby or passion, go after it, educate yourself, pursue it. practice. you only get better.
👑 never forget that your diet has a major affect on how your body functions. you eat shit constantly, you’ll most likely feel like shit.
👑 sugar scrubs are great for your body and they make you feel like an angel. you can buy them at certain stores but i prefer to make my own out of coconut oil, sugar, honey, and vanilla. it leaves me so soft, and smelling great.
👑 stop letting your laundry pile up. clean your sheets and pillowcases once a week, too.
some of these i’m even working on myself and if there’s anything else you want to add, go ahead. just remember that working towards your goals and bettering yourself is amazing, but do not compare your progress or yourself to others, you will always be damn beautiful, and you are valid. sending everyone love! 💜
