Hiya! In your response to the ask about performative feminism and misogyny, you mentioned looking at the series through a 'radical feminist' lens, and I just wanted to know what you meant by radical feminism? Thanks for your time!
hi! i'm aware that there seems to be some confusion on the topic but by radical feminisim i simply mean, well, radical feminism! to sum it up (and i suggest you read further on it because my short explanation is less than enough imo), it's a perspective in which society is viewed fundamentally as a patriarchy where men oppress women; therefore radical feminism aims to de-code these societal norms and a complete re-ordering of society where male domination is fully eliminated in all fields. it also values intersectionality and recognizes that women's issues are also caused by race, class, sexual orientation and other factors.
basically- i mean exactly what it sounds like! radical feminism. like i said though, i gave a very short explanation and suggest further reading. to clarify, because i know there's a lot of misunderstandings about the term; i am not a terf. i believe trans women are women, and that isn't up for debate. i would, however, totally identify as a tirf! a trans-inclusionary radical feminist

oh thank you sm !! you're so sweet😭 i don't think i'm doing anything deserving of thanks but it made me really happy, thank you :) <33

if you want to have real problems you should think about REAL women being victims of misogyny u r just being performative bec ur jily flops. its already misogynistic when u ship lily with james who keeps sa'ing snape behind her back
i live in a country with an insanely high femicide and domestic violence rate. i experience misogyny daily, because all women do. (even fictional ones, am i right? tho you wouldn't agree with that, i guess.)
misogyny isn't as surface level and simple as you think it is. misogyny isn't just femicides, sa, domestic violence or wage gap. it's literally everywhere, in every part of our lives. in fact, all of us are complicit in it! even me, even you. because it's so ancient and so coded into our brains that you don't even understand it, that's why it's important to deconstruct. and that's why it's important to call out every form of it, which is what i'm doing online.
you accuse me of being performative because my ship "flops" apparently. genuinely i couldn't fucking care less if my ship was indeed flopping, i'm not so privileged to have such trivial problems. however while being "performative" i've been protesting against the insanely high femicide rate in my country, the approaching abortion ban, c-sections being banned, domestic violence, sa... pretty much everything you consider "real misogyny". because i experience it. i don't expect any praise for protesting or donating to charities, it's what i should have done. it's what all of us should do in my opinion, but like i said before, these aren't the only manifestations of misogyny we should be calling out.
living in a place where misogyny runs rampant, my accounts(this blog and my twitter) are places of escapism for me. so naturally, when i come online, only to see and face more misogyny, i can't just shut up about it? female characters being erased from narratives to accomodate male characters, female characters being used as surrogates for a gay ship, female characters being called "bitch" over literally anything, male characters who literally don't have single line being considered more important to the story than female characters, etc etc... marauders fandom has a serious misogyny problem. and it doesn’t just go away when you act like it doesn’t exist. i've been called a "bitch" multiple times over fictional characters, i've had a person literally laugh at a thread where me and a friend were discussing femicide and sexual assault. what i'm trying to say is that these attitudes against fictional characters start affecting real women too, because they're misogynistic. very much so.
and they should be called out to make fandom a safe space for everyone. it's not "performative" to call out online misogynistic behaviour, because it's also harmful even if you don't believe it to be.
i find it interesting that a fandom which claims to be so progressive is a literal hellhole from a radical feminist (not only that, but leftist too) lens. i also find it important to have these conversations, because like i said before, these kinds of attitudes are harmful. and no, fiction is never "just fiction". it carries traces of us and it influences us, especially in an environment where so many young people are present. therefore i find feminist readings of media and fandoms very important, to curate safe spaces for people online and to make place for female narratives, which are constantly getting erased.
so as a REAL(like you said) woman who has and is experiencing misogyny, i suggest next time before you leave anonymous asks on a sa victim's askbox accusing me of being "performative"; read up on feminist literature and free yourself from your surface-level, shallow views and feminism :) it is never that simple.
