I didn’t even go home for Thanksgiving. I stayed on campus, saving my trip home for Christmas break. Though I completely agree and am super excited for finals. Mostly because these finals actually pertain to my degree as opposed to finals from freshman and sophomore year.
When one’s parents live just ten minutes from campus, it’s expected that you visit them for the holidays, so I couldn’t really choose to stay on campus and do my work like I wanted to. But good, I’m glad I’m not the only one. And you’re right - the fact that they actually pertain to our degrees instead of just the usual multiple choice or essay finals that we had for our gen-eds helps too. I’m actually excited to see everyone’s final performances, you know?

Sometimes a grumble’s just a grumble, dude. No mansplaining necessary.
Did you have any unfinished projects? Secret knitting skill? Amateur Sims architect? What kind of non-school related hobbies are you into?
My apologies... It’s often hard to read rhetorical questions through text.
Nope. I’m not really a procrastinator, nor am I really a computer gamer or knitter. The hobbies I take part in are ones where I stay active - boxing, biking, hiking, jogging, boarding... But it’s kind of hard to do some of those when it’s been raining.

Is anyone else in your family as light a sleeper as you? Cause if they are, I don’t see how y’all ever get a second of rest. With all the effort you put into everything, I’m positive you’ll be getting one of the highest scores.
You’re looking forward to finals? Really? Are you a real person?
No, they’re not. At least... not my family. The people I share biology with? I don’t know. Though really, it’s called short-sleeper, not light sleeper - light sleeper indicates that I wake up at every little bump and sound in the night.
I am, actually. To see the fruit of your efforts come to fruition?

At least you had the muse for it then. I couldn’t imagine sitting at a piano or guitar and just playing random things until your brain started working. I will say, the changing season has had quote the muse sort of effect on me.
I shouldn’t complain, it’s still a lower level fashion design course. I can hardly imagine what they will have us doing when I’m a junior or senior…Actually, they’ll probably make us actually make our designs, which I am totally on board with. I can tell you, the only thing that was good about being on campus was Kurt’s cooking. Well, that and me and Sugar ate a crapton of marshmallows and watched a lot of Hallmark movies. Everything going okay?
See, there you go seducing me with that hot chocolate. You know the way to my heart, Brody Weston.
I’m actually surprised I did have the muse, but you know, I guess I’ve just been in a good mood lately. Something about a beautiful girl just has me tickling the ivories more.
Oh yeah, you definitely don’t know how good you’ve got it until junior or senior year. You’ll probably have to submit a portfolio to a real life fashion company or something as crazy as that. But yeah, everything’s okay. Just getting busy with the end of the semester rush, you know?
What can I say? Heart chocolate warms more than just the body.

That’s impressive, but it’s also gotta be hard. Did you know that you had to do that when you applied for the course? Because there are certain things about the archaeology course that has surprised me because it wasn’t mentioned about the curriculum. I can’t promise anything, man.
It’s not so much a thrill, I’m just not that bothered about them. I don’t know, I guess it’s because I kinda know what we’ve been taught about, I do research in my own time and learn a lot from that, so I’m not worried about what they’re testing me on. But yeah, being dyslexic is definitely hard when they’re only giving you so much time and I have to read the questions about fifty times before I can even answer them.
Oh, hell no. I thought I’d be singing covers of songs, not writing my own. Don’t get me wrong, I’m learning a lot and having fun, but I never thought this would be part of the curriculum.
Yeah, I get it. You actually feel prepared so you feel like you’ve got it under control. But you know, that could also be kind of bad too, right? The stress of it can be helpful and help you retain the information even more.

I mean, that’s one way to look at it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m studying and you know, pulling out the flash cards. Memorising the difference between Mahayana Buddhism, and Vajrayana Buddhism but, like, I could do without the stress, you know?
Oh yeah? What’s yours subject then? Why is it so different?
But the stress is what really helps it set in, you know? Without it, there’s no real urgency to learn it all.
But I’m a Musical Theatre and Dance double major.

All that working out has it’s benefits, and I’m finally seeing the results of that hard work. Gotta make sure it’s not all about my thighs and my shoulders, you know. #workoutwednesday

Ice Skating: Do you play any sports?
I suppose that depends on your definition of sports, but yes, I do. Currently I’m on the baseball team, but I’ve participated in football, basketball, tennis, cheerleading (and yes, that is a sport), gymnastics, karate, wrestling and boxing. There’s probably more that I’ve at least tried, but these are things I’ve done and stuck with for at least a season in my school history.

You’re so family oriented it’s precious, although disappointing you didn’t work on your pieces while in their presence. I practiced belting in between bites of pie.
Saying I look forward to my finals sounds insane, but there’s something about the rush of a performance I know will be met with applause and an A+ that fuels me the last couple weeks of a semester.
You would be too if you were blessed to grow up with my family. But no, trust me, I did as much of my work as I could - but there’s only so much I could simply do without the recording equipment to see where my pitches were and to overlay the vocals and melody together.
Finally someone that gets it. Most people think I’m crazy for being excited for finals season but... getting to see the fruits of all your labor and finally being able to see what the rest of the semester was for? Well, it’s pretty exhilarating and rewarding at the same time.

You have to write a whole ass song for a class? Damn…I’m glad that I chose archaeology, all we gotta do is test out dirt. How’s it going with the songwriting then? Is it done? Can I hear it? Will it be the next overly-played single of the year?
I don’t really mind them, I’m usually good at them; it’s more the time that they give you that makes me nervous. It never seems like it’s enough for me.
Yeah, we do. It’s to show that we understand that we can read music and recognize pitch and tone. And while I doubt it’ll be overly-played, I do think it’s pretty good. And maybe I’ll play it for you, but you’ve gotta promise you won’t fall in love with me, okay? I’ve got a dreamy voice, and I’d hate for you to fall for me when I serenade you with it.
Good to see that there’s another person that’s not completely dreading them. There’s just something about the thrill that you get about it all, don’t you think? You know, how everything you’ve learned is all for this moment and you can finally see the fruits of your labor... It can be pretty exciting. But yeah, I remember when I took my gen-eds that the time for the essays weren’t really that long - I usually got done about ten, fifteen minutes before the deadline but that doesn’t even factor in those with learning disabilities or those that just don’t... test well, you know?

Over man, like, so ovvvvvvvvvvvver. Like, the stress is insane and the end of the year parties are always like, the best. So just…god. I just wanna chill, you know?
I mean, you’re not wrong about the parties, but there’s still something about the finals that leaves a chill up my spine, you know? That all of this hard work will be worthwhile and you’ll finally see the fruit of your efforts.
Of course, it could be different for me, as my finals aren’t the traditional multiple choice or essay such thing.

Is it safe to say you can’t do your work as well there as you can do it on campus? I didn’t go home for break, so I had the luxury of having the dorm all to myself.
I am looking forward to them. I’m already plenty prepared.
It is safe to say that, yes, and not because of my little sister or anything. We just don’t have some of the equipment that I need to really finalize and perfect my work, you know? But hey, that’s good. Gives you some practice in having the dorm to yourself before next semester.
Good. I’m glad I’m not the only one actually looking forward to finals. And, of course, I didn’t doubt your preparedness, either. If there’s anyone that can knock them out of the park, it’s you.

Yeah…I get the concept. But piling on a bunch of work at the end of the semester doesn’t really help with retaining. I just don’t feel like doing more work after knocking out a bunch of it while I was on break.
Why didn’t you find something else to do? Was it a lack of ideas or just no motivation to move around?
I’m not arguing with your logic, just explaining what their logic might be. Trust me, I think it’s a bit ridiculous myself. It could simply be because there is only so little time between Thanksgiving break and finals that they just want to get one last assignment in to try and prepare us for the big grade changer.
Oh, I did, believe me - I went for about three jogs a day. But being on holiday break is different than being in classes. The monotonous of the day is broken apart by classes, extracurriculars, and baseball practice when I’m on campus but at home? I don’t have all of that to fill up my day and keep me on the move.

Wow, you had to create your own song? How do you even come up with the music? And lyrics? I guess, it could be compared to my original fashion designs. I have to have 50 designs for my exam. It’s a little extreme, but ya know. It is what it is. Did you at least get a little bit of rest during break? I’m sure you’ve got a lot on your mind with baseball and exams and stuff. I’m glad you get to see your moms though, that’s super sweet.
I’m looking forward to it all being over. I’m ready to go back to Seattle to cuddle under my covers while it snows.
Yeah, we did. It was mostly so that our professor can see that we understand reading music and understanding various pitches and everything, but still... I’d like to think I had a pretty good muse for it.
50 designs? That is kind of extreme, but I can understand why. They’d like to see a wide variety of what you can do, see what your strengths and weaknesses are and get a feel for you as a designer. Not really something you can get with just one or two pieces. Rest? What’s rest? But yeah, I did. More rest than I’d have liked, really, as I’d have preferred to be on campus since there’s more here than I can do at home, currently, but... that’s more of a me problem, really.
Shame. I’d have hoped to be with you under that coffee, maybe with a cup of delicious hot chocolate too.

Wrapping paper: Best gift you’ve ever received?
Okay, so this is probably going to be totally cliche but the best gift I ever received? Being adopted. I was one of the lucky ones that found my forever home with two loving people and we quickly became a beautiful family. I owe everything to my moms and every other gift I get pales in comparison to that simple gift.
