Yikes, Another Change Of Plans
So I didn’t have my laptop on my first vacation trip. That means that nothing in terms of fanfic writing got done. I will have my laptop on this second trip, but since it’s a road trip, I won’t be able to write on the fly (and I still have homework, ugh). I will, however, set time aside to write in the evenings when I’m in a hotel, so hopefully, things should get done.
In the case that they don’t, just know that I may not upload immediately. I promise to try at least. Sorry about all the updates and the lack of teasers! If I have something for you guys when I have access to wifi, I’ll try to give y’all something.
Anyways, I’m almost off to see more of my family and I hope y’all are having a good day!

Update
By the end of this week, I’m going to be visiting family, and I won’t be back until August 10th. School for me starts on August 20th, and I have a lot of homework for Pre-AP and AP classes due by then. Because of this, I want to finish my homework by the end of this week, which means I can’t be on this blog much for the time being. Now, this doesn’t mean I’m not posting stuff for the fan event. I’ll still be writing (because car trips are long and uneventful). So basically I may not be around much on Tumblr, but you’ll still see me for the fan event.
Now that the boring personal stuff is aside, here’s my updated plans for the fan event before I leave to do more of my homework.
Sunday: Epherma - The chat fic. One chapter is done! It’s short, but it gets the introduction and setting across. I may add on to it when I go back to edit, and I also may post more chapters throughout the fan event, depending on how motivated I am.
Monday: Ships - The Wolfe/Santi Rome fic. I have the outline set up, and it’s actually looking much easier than I thought it would be. This one’s more of a character study and introspection-type fic, with bits of fluff in it to flavor the massive amounts of angst I’m sure I’ll write for it. This one will have only one chapter.
Tuesday: Glain And Thomas - This is the one I ran out of ideas for, but I have a solid plan for it now. Rather than “Thomas gives Glain an automata horse” idea, I decided to have them discuss their families together instead. I’ll come back to the horse idea later. This is also only one chapter.
Wednesday: Languages - The Dario fic. This one may have multiple chapters, as I’m still undecided on if I want to include more people in it. I also changed the plot up a bit. Instead of Dario’s nicknames for people, I want to go a little more abstract with the languages and show how Dario communicates love to the pack without Khalila/Dario smut, which I know @thegreatlibraryfangirl is working on. How people communicate love is different, and I thought it would be fun to explore that.
Thursday: AU - The zombie fic. This will be the first au, and will definitely contain multiple chapters, although I won’t post them all at once. I won’t reveal too much about this one since I want the details to a surprise, but I will post a sneak peek when I have one!
Friday: Challenge - The cyberpunk fic. I debated for a long time between this and the modern/mafia au, but this one came out on top. Changing the setting from steampunk to cyberpunk is a BIG challenge, mainly because of the little details I forgot about. Certain things, such as the Obscurists and the Iron Tower, are things that can’t really be incorporated into a universe where the technology is quite advanced, so this one requires a lot of heavy lifting in terms of worldbuilding and plot. And since this is a rewrite of all the books, the entire concept will contain multiple chapters and fics.
Saturday: BTS - It’s not just a k-pop group, it’s a worldbuilding nightmare. This one will be a geography lesson in the guise of a fic because I can’t rest easy without knowing the details of the worldbuilding.
All of these will be posted on ao3 because I do have an account with no fics on it.
Anyways, y’all enjoy your day, and I’ll be back to post some teasers sometime this month!
#the great library fan event#the great library#just a little update#i won't dissappear off the face of the earth without warning y'all#homework sucks but at least it'll be done#and then i can focus on fics

One last thought before I retire for the night, did any countries choose to remain under Library control in Smoke And Iron? Germany and Japan were coded as being very pro-Library in the books, and they signed the declaration. How many cut off ties from the Library? How many countries are the pack going to be facing in Sword And Pen?

Fuck I forgot about Ireland. Why is the worldbuilding so difficult and missing so many things?!
Considering Wales and Scotland are both independent from England, I would like to say that it’s independent as well. I don’t think it was mentioned on the declaration sheet the nations drew up to secede from the library, but neither was Scotland, and we know that Scotland is its own country.
Or it just sunk into the sea like Atlantis and that’s why Caine doesn’t mention it.
So, we already know that Jess’s mother’s name is not consistent from book to book. There are two mentioned in the series, one in Ink And Bone and the other in Ash And Quill.
The first one is from an ephemera in Ink And Bone, where it is said that her name is Celia (I don’t have the books, so I can’t be sure, but it is something like that). According to Behind The Name, it is a form of Cecilia, which itself is a form of the Roman name Caelius, which means “heaven”.
The second time is from a chapter in Ash And Quill, when the pack arrives at Brightwell Castle. In this book, it is stated her name is Charity. I don’t need to explain the meaning here.
To help with the process, I have the name meanings of the rest of the Brightwell family, starting with Callum.
Funny enough, the name Callum also means “dove” (which is a symbol of the Holy Spirit) or “heaven” which is the opposite of where he’s headed.
Then there’s Jess, which means “gift” or “wealth” (I’ve seen some posts hanging around with the meanings of the characters’ names, so that is one reference point added here).
Brendan means “prince”. Pretty self-explanatory. His first middle name, Lyell(?) means “loyal” while his second middle name, Sinclair, means “from the town of St. Clair”.
Finally Liam means “protector”.
(Little tiny bit before we start, some of these names, like Callum and Sinclair have a few Scottish roots. Does this mean that Callum is Scottish? Maybe he gave Brendan that middle name because he himself came from a town named St. Clair? Something to think about…)
So we have three options here:
a.) Her true name is Celia. It fits with the “heaven” theme that they’ve got going on. Gifts, protectors, and princes are usually seen as good things too, so it kinda gives them a “we’re a good family, we’d never do crime” vibe from the get-go.
b.) Her true name is Charity. I remember @thegreatlibraryfangirl (or maybe it was @rosalind-of-arden? I can’t find the post, sorry!) talking about how maybe Mrs. Brightwell was going to redeem herself in Sword And Pen. This name would make sense for that twist. It also makes sense because she was willing to give Wolfe the jewelry for their cause, which signals that she does care a lot about her kids kinda.
c.) Her first name is Celia and her middle name is Charity (full name: Celia Charity Brightwell). Maybe she used to go by Charity when she was younger because she thought it was prettier. Then as she got older, she began to use Celia because it was more formal or something. This gives us both the benefits of the names and hopefully fixes canon a little.
Personally I lean more towards option c because it’s easier.

Alrighty, so I have some ideas for what I want to do with the Great Library Fan Event. I’m also struggling over which ideas to choose, so if anyone has a preference I’m definitely up for suggestions!
Ships - Romance is not my strong suit, I’ll admit that. So the pairing is probably going to be Wolfe/Santi since that’s my personal favorite. I’m thinking it’s going to be set during Wolfe’s time in Rome, and how he thinks of Santi to keep himself going throughout his imprisonment.
Ephemera - I have a love for chat fics, because of how funny and random they can be. This choice is also inspired by @blessedharlot‘s fic “Ephemera: Venice”. I think the Pack could get up to some wacky shenanigans if they had a group Codex chat, and I’d really like to explore that more!
Languages - I only know English and I’m learning Spanish, so definitely something with Dario. Perhaps the nicknames he gave everyone in Spanish, and how each person reacts to them? Maybe some of Dario’s family could make an appearance too!
Glain And Thomas - I was thinking that maybe Thomas could make something for Glain. My only idea, however, is that he makes her a mechanical horse, and I have no clue how or why I got this idea. I guess I just think it would be neat.
BTS - I have literally never written a fic before, so every idea I present here is kinda behind the scenes. One thing that has always puzzled me though is the map of this world. If Austria no longer exists, which states took up pieces of it? What about the rest of the Americas? Do the French or the English control the Ohio River Valley? Did the Native Americans create their own state? Did Europe ever start to “colonize” Africa? Do they know Antarctica exists? I have so many questions and not enough knowledge to make a map, and it’s VERY annoying.
AUs - Boy oh boy, my favorite part of this event! The obvious pick for this would be the Zombie AU, but recently I’ve been caught up in two different AUs that I want to explore. Here are the options:
a.) The Zombie AU, the one I have solid ideas and plans for.
b.) The Modern/Gang/Mafia AU, the one I keep on thinking of late at night because I like the idea of one of Wolfe’s kids coming to their house late at night after a particularly fight against a rival gang.
c.) The Cyberpunk AU because what if in the future we didn’t have trees so books and paper would be just as precious and it would be kind of similar but with cool chase sequences on rooftops and flying cars and IT’S MY AESTHETIC.
d.) Say “fuck it” and do all of them.
Challenge Myself - I was originally going to try smut, but a.) I have absolutely no experience when it comes to sex, b.) It would probably sound like a bad porno, and c.) Y’all have it covered, and I am perfectly comfortable with not writing smut. Nothing against it, I just don’t like writing it. So instead, my challenge is just going to be actually writing things and posting them, since I can’t seem to publish them until they’re perfect, which is apparently impossible to my brain.
Let me know what you think!
#i'm half tempted to make up Caine's worldbuilding#the barfight idea is also golden#just like the map idea from blessedharlot#thank you!

The fact that it was steampunk. Whenever I imagine the setting, I keep on forgetting that it’s steampunk because my own ideas of what steampunk are like are NOTHING like the world Caine made. Fun fact, the steampunk factor is what gave me inspiration to test the world out in a cyberpunk setting, since the two ideas are pretty different.
Also, I kinda thought there was an age limit to becoming a postulant until I read Caine’s Wattpad stories. Now I headcanon that Dario is a year older than Jess and likes to rub it in his face every now and then.
And another bonus fun little thing, I first read Ink And Bone in middle school and I thought Wolfe and Santi were just friends. You know, guys being dudes. And then I came back to the books after a few years and had to contemplate on how dense I was.
I g2g bed but before I leave, here's, hopefully, a little conversation starter.
What things about the characters/setting whatever, did you not initially realise?
For example, right up until I read smoke and iron and Caines wattpad scenes, I believed that Wolfe was considerably younger than Santi. Like, ten years at least.
I think it had to do with the way they're both initially described in Ink and bone, as well as Santi's protectiveness and the large number of gay men I know with big age gaps in their relationship.
#i mean they were literally shirtless in a room together#alone by themselves#i clearly wasn't the brightest kid in the classroom#the great library

Golden nickname in my opinion! Gonna add this to my languages fanfic.
Okay how have we all forgotten this but it says SOMEWHERE that dario's nickname is peacock. Don't tell me I'm going crazy, I think Jess gives it to him
#the great library#dario literally acts like a peacock most of the time#it's like his patronus or something

Epherma!
So I tried to make a side blog a while ago, but that flopped, so I’m trying again! And this one is hopefully going to stick around for good! My main is @everyonehasacoolerusername and I’ve basically been lurking in this fandom for a while, but now I have some free time to truly get involved.
Anyways, I’m looking forward actually writing fanfiction, since I’ve never written any before! Normally I’m more of a reader, but I’ll try posting for the fan event.
The whole point of this post is to just say hi to y’all and identify myself! I’ll post my rough plans for the fanfiction event soon!
