jesse pulled on to the gas station forecourt ,     using the heel of his hand to spin the wheel towards the gas pumps .

he scooted around to the pump ,     eyes darting back and forth like an animal caught in a trap ,     for jesse the paranoia never left him .     it hung over his shoulder twenty - four hours a day ,     whispering in his ear like the ugly conscience you wish you never had .     a quivering hand hovered over one of the pumps ,     hesitated and returned to the pocket of his pants .      again ,     wide eyes searched the environment retaining as many details as one could with a quick scan .     the station was small and lacking in tlc ,    the building made from a thick wood that gave way in dark patches ,     around those darkened orifices the wood had been frayed and dirtied as though a community of termites had made their homes and ate like kings ever since .

again ,     he reached for the pump ,     this time successfully grasping the handle and forcing the nozzle into the tank of his rusted car .     whilst filling the tank with overpriced fuel he noticed a female inside the store ,     he hadn’t seen her earlier ,     he could barely see her now ,     her figure merely a silhouette through the grimy display window .  

      leather    boot   heel   swings   kickstand   onto   pavement,    triumph   bobber   steadied   into   place.   miles   of    desolation   is   behind   her   &    there’s  a  disappointingly   empty   pack   of   cigarettes    remains  to  show  for  it.   sky  blue   box    clutched   within   her  fist,   she   chucks   it   into   trash.   EXHAUSTED   eyes   drink   in  their  surroundings.  a  disheveled   looking   man  just  reached  gas   pump.  she  doesn’t  think  much  of   him  (  one  track  mind  )   &   proceeds   inside.  the   snack  isles  taunts  her,  &  she  caves,            a   bag  of  doritos,   some   sour   gummy  worms,   a  red  bull,  &   cigarettes,  the  scorching  air  engulfs  her   as   she   returns   outdoors.  through  sunglasses   gray  eyes  flicker  over  stranger’s  frame.   catching  his  gaze,  a   biting   smirk  finds  its  way  onto  her  features. 

         ❛   isn’t    it   a   little   HOT   for  having   a  beard  ??   ❜    cigarettes   thumping  against   palm,   she   strips   cellophane,  then   plucks   smoke   from  american  spirit   pack   &   casually  wedges  it  between  plump  lips.
