#swipeleft Had a blast sitting in on the virtual celebration release party for #cómicsquecuran #vol2 almost a week and a half ago. Great discussion with a super talented panel of artists and contributors about a important issue that traverses culture. This volume featured #bridex #wrathanddawn , a story about #bipolarawareness and #perserverance . Many thanks to all involved and please share pics of the comics from both volumes that are displayed on those bud shelters in #losangeles ! #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthandcomics #dstlarts #danielbrianmobley https://www.instagram.com/p/CH3M0EoBtGc/?igshid=6xzh7i2kpvrn

***Update*** The skull with the number 10 on the forehead was removed from the center of the red X.  A sound criticism (appreciated) was made to it’s ability to be legibly reproduced if etching or engraving opportunities ever present themselves.  Below is the original commentary:
Here is the BRIDE X logo I’ve settled on for this SAGABOOK series.  There’s a lot of elements/themes I could’ve tried to include in this logo, but there is just too many to do so, therefore–I had to be selective in what was included.  The “Bride” part of the logo had to hint at the cyberpunk elements of the character–she is a vigilante that relies heavily on technology to carry out her agenda.  The red ‘X’ was included to represent a few elements.  Obviously, the color itself is supposed to be reminiscent of blood, with the spatter effect is meant to suggest violence, destruction, and/or corrosion. Finally, the skull is the symbol for death–a number ten on its forehead marking that this particular woman is the tenth individual to use this avatar as a vehicle for her vengeful agenda.  Of course, the ten is also reinforced by the ‘X’, which also is the Roman numeral for ‘10′.

“I came up with the initial idea of what would be BRIDE X while I was attending art college (probably 2002). The “woman scorned” premise had been interesting to me since I was a kid, and I felt it was time to create my own vehicle for that. Honestly, BRIDE (as it was called then) was inspired by many stories I read or saw growing up: an episode of Tales From The Crypt featuring an undead bride getting revenge on the husband that poisoned her to death, or the foreign film ‘The Bride Wore Black’, where a bride is widowed on her wedding day only to systematically destroy the assassins one by one afterward. I even did a derivative story for an assignment in the 6th grade, cutting my teeth on the material early on. The work started as a “vengeful spirit/ghost story” and didn’t evolve much until I revisited my designs in 2011. Although the present incarnation is considerably different from what I started with, don’t be surprised if some throwbacks to the base influences sneak themselves into this Fall’s SAGABOOK.“ Art by the incomparable @shaneew25 , aka Sha-Née Williams .

The cover to the BRIDE X: R.S.V.P. Sagabook, slated for September release. This was illustrated by the phenomenally talented comic book legend Darryl GLPrime BANKS!!! This short story will serve as an origin story of sorts, with more to come in 2018.
