Sure. The bourbon hunting season is upon us, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my favorite bourbon thus far in 2020 (the dumpster fire that it has been). This private label wheated bourbon from @stavesandgrain is absolute 🔥🔥🔥. Simply everything you’d want from a high proof wheated; vanilla, dark Luxardo cherry, caramel, sweet apple, cinnamon, nutmeg...damn it’s good. I’m pretty sure this bottle is sold out, but keep your eyes open for more from @stavesandgrain and good luck with your 2020 hunt! 🥃 Me? I love beautiful packaging and @bardstownbourboncompany certainly has plenty of that in their stable. It doesn’t hurt that the bourbon inside these bottles is delicious. A triple cask finished bourbon is very ambitious IMO. This @barrellbourbon selection is finished in casks that once held pear brandy, rum and Sicilian Amaro. That’s a lot going on. So...let me try to break this down. The pear is very apparent on the nose. A light whiff of rum follows with just a hint of Amaro. The palate Is very similar. You’re met upfront with a dominant pear brandy sweetness. If I had to bet (and thankfully, I don’t) I’d say I’m tasting Jamaican rum, specifically. The Amaro follows up last on the palate (as with the nose) and is very faint. I kind of wish I got more of the Amaro. The finish is medium/long. Regardless, I’m eager to see how this expression is received and if this is just the start of the release of more multi-cask finished bourbons from Barrell. In short, I think this is a pour that will be polarizing in the end. Some will love it. Some will leave it. So seek it out and try some for yourself! This is it! #Day30! We made it! Today’s pour has an interesting story behind it. I had heard that a “not so local” shop did an annual bottle hunt in their very large liquor store. So I bit. Drove to the shop about an hour away from home after getting out of work on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I walked in and spent 20 minutes walking around the store checking every nook and cranny. No luck. About an hour later, employees began to notice I had been in the store for a LONG time and began dropping obtuse hints about the location of this #LotB. Embarrassingly, it took almost 3 total hours of hunting around every square inch of this store to find this bottle and pay $99 for it. It was worth it. Good story.
