Fun fact: this book partially inspired my first queer romance novel, A Tale Between Florists! 🌻

My launch for And They Were Neighbors will be a bit unconventional.
The official release date is July 22, 2025, but I will be releasing the book early through Kickstarter in March! What does this mean?
It means that if you back my Kickstarter, you’ll get early access to the book. Not only that, but as a backer you’ll receive special perks that are exclusive to the Kickstarter!
That’s because Kickstarter is not charity, like GoFundMe or other fundraising sites. It’s a platform where creators (from indie authors like me to big names like Critical Role and Brandon Sanderson) essentially pitch a product to customers, and customers can invest in that product by pledging an amount to it.
To sum it up, you’ll be able to buy the book early, but you’ll only receive it (and you’ll only be charged) if the project fully funds.
One of the rewards will be a Kickstarter exclusive special edition hardcover! Picture the cover on a dust jacket over a gorgeous hardcase with foil artwork, sprayed edges, a ribbon, custom end-page art, and more!
And if you back the campaign in the first 48 hours, your name will be in the acknowledgments!
For now, you can check out my campaign pre-launch page and sign up to be notified when the campaign goes live!

Some if my favorite trans and nonbinary books that, as a bonus, have really awesome audiobook editions. I’ll listen to anything Vico Ortiz narrates tbh; they’ve got a great voice and apparently top notch taste in books. Lakelore spoke to me on a deep and personal level. The Monk and Robot books are maybe the two most calming and restorative books I’ve read in my entire life. Self Made Boys is a more compelling version of The Great Gatsby (I said what I said).
((Cross posting some older posts from my insta (same username) because I’m not sure about the future of meta platforms/my use of meta platforms & I don’t want my content to be lost.))

Book Review: The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal
Tumblr media
The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal is an expertly written and researched alternate history about humans first going to space.
It starts on a dark, apocalyptic note when a meteorite hits earth while mathematician Elma and her husband Nathaniel are on vacation.
The story follows them from there as Elma realizes the meteorite strike is an extinction event and that humanity needs to get off the planet within the next fifty years.
The rest of the story echoes narratives like Hidden Figures as Elma uses her position as a computer and a physicist to advocate for women astronauts.
The story is a compelling and often frustrating examination of sexism and racism, especially in the fifties. Much of the book also reflects current climate change concerns and how people are wilfully ignorant of that issue.
The main character is expertly crafted as an intelligent and flawed woman doing her best to achieve her goals. She also has severe anxiety, which is fantastic to see on the page. The cast of secondary characters is also compelling with its complex villains and the other women fighting to be astronauts.
At no point did I want to put the book down, and I rooted for Elma every step of the way!
I highly recommend this book if you’re a sci-fi fan but also if you enjoy learning about the space race and experiencing steminist narratives.
