Does the Hermitcraft Recap count as an adjacent series? If so, here's a recap headcanon:
Pixlriffs and Zloy are Watchers, but they went rogue a long time ago. Now they just stay far away from most other Watchers, doing their own thing - which, in this case, is Watching Hermitcraft and recording its events. Lyarrah is a Listener who found them while on a mission, and decided to just stay and Listen with them.
Because they're not affiliated with the main Watcher collective, they're allowed to continue watching the Hermits, even though Xisuma and the rest of the admin / security team knows of their activities. After all, they've been actually pretty helpful in giving information and letting them access their own personal records, in the event of major incidents where there were no other witnesses / footage of the events leading up to it.
So, despite the security risk of letting Watchers have access to a world, the Recap Team isn't banned; the Hermit admin team made an exception for them. In exchange, they obviously have to behave themselves and not bother the Hermits, just Watch.
Grian knew of their existence even before becoming a Hermit, as he found them one day while wandering the void, after becoming a Watcher himself. He joined them briefly to Watch (the world being S5 at the time), but decided his existence was better spent actually being allowed to interact and mess with people, so he left and snuck onto S6 instead. If any other Hermit sees Watcher magic around - not that he'd use it, just in case it slipped out - he can just blame it on the Recap Watchers, after all. He sometimes comes back to the base to hang around and Watch his friends freely.
Pearl also knows of their existence, because before she became a Hermit (but after Grian joined), she met and befriended both of them while trying to get away from the other Watchers. They gave her sanctuary and let her watch (as much as a non-Watcher can) with them. During Empires, she helped to cover for Pix whenever he needed to do Watcher stuff for an extended period of time.
(This is also how Grian was able to get Pearl's help on the S6 dragon and S7 mansion; when he returned to the base for a quick visit, they had a tearful reunion, and later on he discussed some of his projects while catching up.)
---
As a side note: Pix being a historian in Emp S2 was also the result of him Watching the Emp world and, as always, recording it all down. Of the other Emperors, Gem, Scott, Jimmy, Lizzie, Joel (and Pearl) know he isn't human, the first two because they're celestial world-hopping beings, Jimmy because he's a Listener, Lizzie because Jimmy told her just to be safe, Joel because Lizzie told him.
And on the Hermit side, the Hermits working more closely with the admin team already knew he was their Watcher, so during the crossover, he, Pearl and Grian had to keep reminding the others to pretend he's actually human and not blow his cover to the Emperors who didn't know yet. The latter especially, because they share the same burden and fear of having to hide their nature from many of the people they're living with.

Important distinction. Tango, on the other hand, has zero object permanence and is just excited when he's reminded Jimmy exists.

I think everyone treating Ren like a lost child and being so quick to bring him into a team comes directly from the fact that after Martren they know that if they leave Ren alone for too long he will do something either horrific or so pathetically desperate that it hurts to look at him. So they’re preventing that by giving him friends.
