She scrambles down the hallway as quietly as she can, looking for the scrap room so maybe she can grab her lanyard and get out of here before anyone commented-

Something ran into her at knee height, and she looked down to see a scruffy lil kid with big brown eyes staring up at her.

"Hewo! Who are you?"

Rose stared for a moment. Whose kid was this? She didn't even know kids were allowed in the agency, let alone one of the bases.

"Uhh, I'm Rose, I'm just trying to find something I lost. Do you need something?"

The kid stood up, he was clearly no more than four or five years old. "I need the weird sciencey guy to stop asking me questions, putting light in my eyes."

Rose was about to be alarmed when she saw someone coming down the hall, "This one yours?" She asked, hoping this was a completely normal situation.

The man in white with the dark hair is Ollie. That's Damien's special person.

Ollie, for his part, is gently tending to Nix; changing bandages and feeding tube bags accordingly. He didn't seem too worried, as though he had every faith Nix would be ok.

The gentleman with the headset is Crane. He's like Damien's adopted dad, from what I know.

Reginald was the more worried of the two, carefully carding his hand through ginger curls with a sigh. And yet, he smiled anyway. He knew his boy had done well.

Ollie and Reginald notice her, then, and turn to speak to her, only to stop short. Ollie opens his mouth to speak, but Reginald beats him to it.

"Pardon. Oriae, is it? Is... Is that a child?"

Kai laid motionless as he was transported to one of the hospital beds, save for the subtle rise and fall of his chest as his mind drifted in unconsciousness. Half his face was covered in scarring, where the black serum had almost consumed him.

His hand twitched at the side of his bed, looking for something to hold.

But when Kai's hand twitched, she threw out any attempts to delude herself and held his hand tightly. She knew, deluded or not, that Kai was her friend. Maybe her ONLY friend. And if she had been a little quicker then maybe...

The worst trick a childhood anxiety disorder pulls is, you spend your early years being applauded for being so much more mature than your peers, because you aren’t disruptive, you don’t want any kind of attention, you don’t express yourself, you keep yourself to yourself - this makes you a pleasure to have in class, etc etc - and you start to believe it’s virtue. But you’re actually way behind your peers in normal social development, and who knows if you can ever catch up.

I have... 2 answers on this list. I ate a lot of grass as a kid, but once and only once did I ever eat sand. I did it because my best friend's brother told me it was a pie.

I used to eat gum, too, but mostly because I didn't know how to chew it without swallowing.

Bluenix hears a knock on his door, it's Shadow and she's holding the little note he dropped off earlier.

"I need your help," she says, almost sheepishly, as if she doesn't do this often. "Do you know how to make pandebono?"

Nix smiles and TK's the box of all his loose recipe cards to himself. After looking through for a second or two, he holds up a card that's stained with flour.

Seems I do! C'mon. Let's get to work.

Soon enough, Nix's kitchen is prepped with the ingredients. He makes sure Shadow washes her hands, and he makes sure to set aside cream for his scars; water sometimes makes them itchy. Shadow can see he's excited to cook.

I'll start mixing the ingredients in a food processor. You can add the egg, and shape the dough, llamita. Sound good?
