I think it’s pretty common knowledge that it’s easier to call John Flansburgh “Flans,” or even “Flansy,” as apposed to his full name…was this nickname conceived before or after They Might Be Giants started gaining steam and you had to start going by your last names? Is there a reason why we don’t say “Linn,” or “Linny” in the same fashion?

JF: on frequent occasions I call JL "Nelo" which would be his British tabloid slang name were he a tabloid figure. (Mine would be Flazza, but that never stuck)
