Brass Knuckles Circa 1930’s Boston Massachusetts
One of the few items from my grandfather that I own. He rarely spoke about himself and never bragged so I don’t have any stories connected to these but I do know that they are from before he served in WWII. Being an Irish Catholic living in South Boston during some rough times I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that these were not just for show.

Moments before there was a beautiful pink sunset. With the blink of an eye, that light was gone.

Newburyport is a quaint New England beach town just an hour from Boston. My sisters and I decided to stay for a night during the Christmas Holiday. It was nice to get away from the noise and crowds in the city.
Although Newburyport was quite chilly, the town is serene in the winter and the beach and sunsets were just as beautiful as in warmer months.
We enjoyed our ocean front suite at the Blue Inn, a Lark Hotel. The 2000+ square foot accommodation was a real treat compared to my tiny city digs. My sisters and I loved the room so much that we ordered Chinese takeout to the inn instead of venturing out for dinner. Included in the rate was warm breakfast delivered to the room. We had a delicious spinach and cheese frittata, yogurt and granola, and scones.
I only have two complaints: 1) the apple TV would not work on the TV and they have very limited cable selections for such an expensive room. My sisters and I had been hoping to watch a movie but couldn’t (no one answered our calls to the front desk). 2) the room doesn’t have as many cooking supplies. I’m sure most people going hope to relax and stay away from the stove - we were just craving warm cookies at night.
