Overdose
After five years of working with folks whose lives are affected by drug and alcohol dependency, I can safely say that I have seen and handled more overdoses than the average person.
So what should you look for to identify an overdose?
Blue lips
Slow or absent breathing
Racing heart
All of those are signs of an opiate overdose. If you see someone experiencing those symptoms, call your local emergency number and give them Naloxone if you have it!
This resource is local to me, but it has good information. Please look up resources in your area. Many opioid overdoses can be reversed if the person is helped in time.
Be aware and know how to help! You could save a life!

So I knew a guy who we will call Robin. Robin was a wonderful person who painted gorgeous art. Robin also really liked meth.
So one day I am leaving work and in walks Robin looking freaked right the fuck out. I ask them what is wrong and they look at me with these wide eyes and say, “Wow, be careful out there! I think it’s the apocalypse!”
We look at each other for a few seconds and I think, “I could stop and talk to them about this but I am off the clock.”
So I give Robin my patented two finger salut and say, “Thanks for the heads up!” Before walking out the front door.
