Listen the thing I love abt Izuku showing so many autistic behaviors and the reason I harp on it so much is bc he’s basically the most positively autistic coded character i’ve ever seen in any media. 

Autistic coded characters tend to be non-humans to begin with. Aliens or androids or elves. With their autistic traits being explicitly posed by the narrative as being a result of their lack of humanity, and thus lack of understanding of human beings. 

Those who are entirely human have their autistic traits painted in a negative light. They either are a gross caricature meant for the humor of watching a person with little to no social skills be picked on by the rest of the cast; or a heavily traumatized character who’s autism lessens or even disappears with the course of their development.

Izuku, on the other hand, is the protagonist of bnha/mha. And while the narrative does explain away some of his behaviors as being a result of being born quirkless (which is arguably in and of itself an allegory for mental illness but I digress) it does not diminish them or treat them as negative. 

In fact; Izuku’s hyperfixation on heroes, his tendencies to info dump, his attention to detail, and tendency to over-empathize are all placed front and center of his character. And they are treated as his greatest strengths. Izuku’s autistic traits are presented as his heroic traits.

the only thing that’s treated as if it needs fixing is his overwhelming anxiety and even that’s treated more for the sake of his own emotional well being rather than him being a more effective hero.

his best birthday would probably be his sixteenth birthday

which was his first(?) year in yuuei !

he spent it quietly with the bakusquad/bakugang

on the nineteenth, they had dinner like usual but once bakugou went to his room, the others sneaked into his dorm and brought blankets and sleepover gear

he protested initially but they were persistent

they all piled up blankets on the floor and tangled themselves up in them before digging out movies to watch together

they definitely kept him up past his bedtime so they could say at happy birthday the second it turned to midnight

"hey bakugou its 420"

"did you seriously keep me up to make a weed joke"

"no old man its your fucking birthday dumbass"

they brought him gifts after that and probably a little cake for breakfast !

denki insisted they play ssbu after presents and cake so they did

until bakugou fell asleep on kiri

at which point mina decided to tease kiri until sero threatened to tape her to the wall

hcs for autistic shouto todoroki

he hates heavy and itchy fabrics like wool

but he loves weighted blankets!

probably his favorite thing to lug around

sometimes his classmates will find him napping in the common room under it after a long night of studying

is often semi-verbal and he answers in clipped, short sentences or with shrugs or dismissive body language

it's not necessarily that he doesn't care about what someone is saying- he just can't respond right

he prefers rougher edged stim toys to smooth ones- ex! the gear parts on a fidget cube are his favorite

clicks? good. lots of fidget cube switch clicking while he works

he doesn't mind chewy toys but won't use them outside of his room alone

chews on straws!

keeps earplugs in his backpack for when it gets too loud along with his headphones

loves small spaces!

he'd curl up in the backpack cubbies as a kid and read books

very influenced by his father's ableism
