Review:

Mmm...another addition to the Captain America and modern Bucky Barnes hall of fame….

This was a fantastically sweet and funny fic with huge dash of action and suspense. And not to mention some steaminess, haha

I am totally in love with the idea of teacher Bucky and I think it is so great how that worked into how Steve and Bucky met at the Captain America museum. I also fully subscribe to the head canon that mighty will of Margaret Carter reached out at that moment to squish these two together because they needed each other.

I also like to believe she arranged for the hilarious and cute misunderstanding that led both of our favorite knuckleheads to misinterpret each other's intentions in regards to what the other wanted.

Obviously it works out in the end so that we are blessed with domestic shenanigans, meddling Avengers (Asgardian condoms, anyone?), and a very intense run of action and suspense. Seriously, a million kudos to the author for the build up of the mysterious ex-boyfriend plotline. I was constantly glaring at my phone thinking "oh my god!!! What is going on?!?!"

And then even after the conclusion of all that juicy action...there is a cliffhanger!

DUN...DUN...DUUUUNNNNN!!!!!

Finally, before I wrap up this review to go binge the second part of this series, I want to squeal about Steve (and eventually Bucky) essentially adopting the Maximoff twins. I will never be able to (or want to if we're being honest) get rid of the image of Steve sitting silent, comforting sentry of the two sleeping twins as they sit on the couch. I also adored Bucky just stepping in and being like "these are my babies now...fight me…" after meeting Wanda and Pietro.

Okay, that's enough for me, I'm off to devour the next step in this story so you better go read the fabulous first installment so you can keep up….

Review:

Okay, now you may have noticed from the tags on this fic but...this one may not be for everyone.

This fic is fairly dark and a lot of bad shit happens to Steve, Bucky, and pretty much everyone. Then there is the creature tentacle aspect that may not be your cup of tea. If these are things you prefer not to read that is okay, however, if you are on the fence and none of the tags trigger you, I would ask that you give this fic a shot.

This fic is one of those stories where, even though it's dark and painful, it kind of beautiful in a way. Watching Steve being tortured and experimented on is extremely sad and heartbreaking but the fact that he just cannot stop wanting to take down Hydra is astounding. Steve's struggle with his internal Captain Rogers persona is a truly intriguing aspect as well. It's actually what really got me into this fic which is a very good thing because…

This was my first Stucky fic.

Yes, without this fic, I would probably not even be doing this blog. I tried this fic out when it was still being posted and something about Steve's fight to survive and take out his enemy juxtaposed with his determination to stay and save a fellow prisoner who doesn't make it an easy task really got to me. There was just something about the Steve and Bucky dynamic that really got me hooked and I guess the rest is history.

There is so much to talk about in this fic and and much as I would love to write an ode to this story, that might be a bit much but I will say this, I loved that despite angst and all the terrible things that happen to our boys, this fic actually ends in a happy place. In the end the boys do find something that resembles a peaceful existence and it felt so nice to see them have that after all that happens to them in this story.

Now, to address the elephant in the room, there's the tentacle thing. Honestly, when written well like this fic for example, that sort of thing doesn't bother me (this is fiction obviously) but I know that this is a squick for some people. If it is, obviously you should look out for you but I'd encourage you to at least look at the bulk of the fic that is not related to that subject matter. The sections that may make you uncomfortable aren't super plentiful and they are pretty easy to anticipate so you could in theory still enjoy this meaty, complex fic without reading something that's not your thing.

Finally, it would be a tragedy to not mention there is some absolutely gorgeous (and very NSFW, mind you) art for this fic (though if the above mentioned tentacles aren’t your thing, you might want to give it a pass). It is so cool and fantastically done and can be found at the end of the fic. Kudos to the artist for this amazing piece, especially since without it, this fic wouldn’t exist.

Anyway before I bore anyone else with my rambling fangirl review, I want to say hats off to the author. This was a fantastic read and it helped inspire my love of Stucky and I'd encourage those of you who are comfortable with the subject matter to try this fic out. And thank you to the artist for creating the art that inspired this fic.

Review:

Okay, not gonna lie, part of the reason I loved this fic (beyond the obvious amazing-ness of the characterizations, premise, and supremely funny moments) is that I feel weirdly proud of knowing a smidge of information about retail.

I’ve never yet worked retail or in the upper level like Steve and Bucky, but I do work in the finance department for a company that has retail stores. So while handling the expense reports, things like the titles and the work that Bucky and Steve do in this fic are stuff that I actually see from time to time. (I would like to think that Bucky and Steve would be considerate and always expense on time *with* receipts even…but I digress)

I am completely in love with the various ways that Steve and Bucky end up in ‘want to dig a hole and get buried alive’ level embarrassing situations. Bucky just does not have any luck and while I feel bad about laughing at his misery, I don’t feel too bad since he does eventually end up with a pretty sweet deal (which just happens to include a large blonde gentleman). I think my favorite situation is the interview scene.

Another awesome aspect of this fic is the small bit of schadenfreude in regards to how eventually Bucky’s former employer (and his shitty manager) get what’s coming to them for how they treated him. I mean, who doesn’t love a good fic like that? Because we’ve all had that manager/employer that we think “I can’t wait to watch you fail without me here”.

Besides the humor and the quasi-relatable vibe this fic has, there’s a nice dose of sweetness and cuteness that really gives this fic some extra something that I think everyone can enjoy.

This fic was perfect. The premise is awesome and I would gladly consume an entire books’ worth of words in this AU. A romantic comedy style movie, I can see it now….. *looks off into the distance dreamily*

Bucky’s internal dialogue in this fic is super great and funny. I’m a big fan of Bucky having a bit of a disastrous internal voice (especially when it comes to Steve) and he’s very witty which is another great plus.

Then of course there’s Steve, being a little bit of a smartass (but isn’t that always the case our favorite blonde?) but obviously that doesn’t bother Bucky too much.

There’s not much more I can say without spoiling the story but I can say this was a wonderful little fic. It would be perfect for a lunch break read and would definitely help bolster your mood with it’s hilarious-ness.

Not going to lie, this fic is about 100% smut but that is obviously not a bad thing.

I will never tire of Steve being super into Beefy Bucky. There’s just something so goddamned entertaining about the idea of Steve losing control of all higher brain functions when he sees the built-ass tank that is his boyfriend.

And if Steve going bananas over Bucky being an entire slab of beef wasn’t enough, there’s also a heaping dose of dom-vibe Steve in here! *cue applause*

In conclusion, this is fic is super awesome and would be just the ticket if you’re looking for something quick to add a touch of Stucky steaminess to your day.

Guys! I love this fic!!

It’s so damn hilarious. There is something truly special about the idea of Bucky being to his very bones offended that the Avengers think he and Steve’s sex life is boring. His reactions to everyone’s teasing are the perfect mix of outrage and overreaction and I’m so here for it.

I also love how, in direct juxtaposition, how completely unbothered Steve is by the team’s insistence that he and Bucky bone in a boring fashion. It’s so funny to have him not reacting at all while Bucky is foaming at the mouth to prove everyone wrong.

And then the team’s reaction when they finally find out the nature of the guys’ bedroom shenanigans...priceless.

This fic is such a good time and everyone really should go read it. You’re going to be snorting unattractively with laughter almost immediately.

This was an absolute homerun in the field of humorous yet sexy fics.

Steve and Bucky’s bickering (which is completely loving obviously) is one of the best things about this story. I snorted in a very unattractive fashion multiple times while reading this and I’m not sorry. The bits of dialogue that show the passage of time for Bucky and Steve while they are...in their predicament...are absolute gems. Each and every one of them.

I really liked how at first Steve is the one trying to annoy Bucky because intentionally annoying Steve is one of my jams. It was also great because it lead to Bucky deciding to be mischievous all on his own and he plays dirty.

Emphasis on the dirty.

Which brings me to the sexy times in this fic. It’s super awesome and I congratulate the author on writing such exemplary smut considering the locale that the boys were in at the time. And an added bonus (for me anyways) was that not only was it hot, it was also pretty hilarious when all is said and done. Once you read the fic, you’ll know what I mean.

All in all this was a great little fic and if hilarious bickering and interesting smut are things you enjoy, definitely try this fic out.

Great googly moogly what a great fic!

I’m always a fan of modern Bucky and Cap Steve where Bucky is one of the few people who encourage Steve to be Steve which is a good portion of this fic. It’s a little bit awkward during their first meeting but Bucky swiftly recovers and becomes, in this humble reviewer’s opinion, a supremely good influence in Steve’s life by offering video games, food, and quality hang out time.

...and eventually a relationship, of course.

I truly enjoyed the initial fumbling flirting and that oh so sweet agony of ‘will you two just get together, already?!?’ but what I really really loved was the bit where highlights from Bucky and Steve’s relationship are depicted via a Buzzfeed list. The gif descriptions were so vivid I feel like I could see them. Not to mention they were hilarious because in them we get to witness Steve being a little shit and we all know how much I enjoy Steve being a little shit. (My Personal Favorite out of this (and the who fic really): Steve’s various and interesting disguises)

This story is so funny and sweet but with just a hint of angst to keep things interesting. There’s also a nice hint of sexiness to add a little something something and the best part? It’s a series!

This fic has all the fixings. Steve choosing to retire, Bucky happily living his best life in Wakanda only for it to get even better by Steve joining him as they live in domestic bliss...with their many children, goat and otherwise.

I love this story so much. It’s the very embodiment of the ‘it’s so fluffy!!’ gif. Steve and Bucky are so damn happy it makes me want to explode with fangirl joy. There is absolutely no angst in this fic and I am totally here for that.

I’m also here for Bucky’s accurate naming of the goats (well...mostly accurate, but any and all dubious namings are made in good fun) and various other critters that decide to make the Barnes-Roger’s residence in Wakanda their home. The only thing I love more than that is the reaction of each of the children’s namesakes.

So, seriously, if you need a heaping dose of fluff, do yourself a favor and read this little beauty. Thank you to the authors for sharing it with us.

Okay so first things first, I am officially in love with the concept of soft beefy Bucky and I would die for him. I think this is the first time I’ve encountered a Bucky who was bulked out but so shy and it was a combination that I will now need more of. It was so easy to picture this hulking giant of a man gently working at the library being an all around sweetheart who loves books.

And then you add in Bucky’s crush on Steve and, somehow, he gets even more adorable!

The way he moons after Steve is great and I love his internal dialogue about being essentially a disaster gay. It’s oddly relatable because who amongst us hasn’t wanted to hit on a cute barista but can’t because their gaydar was obviously from the 75% off discount shelf?

Steve of course is a real gem. I do love some small scrappy Steve. After Steve defends Bucky from a nasty patron, it’s my personal head canon that from that moment on, Steve is on high alert and ready to jump over the cafe counter to throw hands at anyone who makes Bucky even a teeny bit uncomfortable. I also really really love the idea of Steve finally going up to big ol’ Bucky and being like “hey, we’re going out on a date” and Bucky following along like an excited Great Dane with heart eyes.

The smut in this fic is supremely good and kinda sweet which is a super bonus added to an already amazing story.

Finally, can I work in this library? It sounds like such a great place to be and I would totally work there if I could.

All in all, this is a fantastic work and it perfect for a lunch time pick me up if you’re having a rough day or just to read (or re-read several times in my case) if you want to satisfy a need for a fic about beefy Bucky and small Steve.

Okay my dear friends, first things first, the non-con tag…

In this fic, both Steve and Bucky are assholes (more on that further down) and due to this crucial fact, there is a point wherein Steve forces Bucky to blow him and without the internal commentary from Bucky later on which shows that he was very much into it, it appears extremely non-con. Plus there is the fact that Steve didn’t know for 100% that this was something Bucky wanted, he only assumed that Bucky wanted to sleep with him due to his celebrity status so to be honest even then it’s still dubious but I digress. I just wanted to let everyone know so they can avoid that if they need to - it’s at the very end of chapter 1, FYI

Now, as to why I love this fic…

I had no idea just how entertaining Asshole Steve and Asshole Bucky can be when they clash with each other. And I’m not talking about being grumpy with each other, oh no, they are outright in the middle of who can be the worse dude while simultaneously being enraptured with one another. Full disclosure and as the tags plainly state, this is not a fluffy fic and Steve and Bucky don’t treat each other well at all but I still enjoyed it.

This was definitely a new take (to me anyway) on Steve. He isn’t the ‘aw shucks ma’am’ sweetheart we’re used to but I truly enjoyed this Extra Salty version of Steve Rogers. I also really liked the idea that Steve’s version of happiness isn’t a calm relationship. Steve’s a fighter and he relishes it so it isn’t too big of a leap that he would be happiest in a relationship where he had a challenge.

And boy does Bucky give him a challenge. I love how Bucky didn’t take Steve’s bullshit and he meets Steve blow for assholery blow. I do feel bad for Bucky quite a bit because he gets dealt a really shitty hand for a good portion for this fic but not only does it get better for him by the end, he definitely levels the playing field.

The good news is by the time the fic ends, the boys are in a slightly (if you really squint) better place which is great because guess what? There are, upon writing this review, *two more* installments to this series. So if you take the time to read this fic and enjoy the battle of the salty bastards like I did, rejoice in the fact that there is more to be had.

Review:

Oh, so many feels my friends, so many feels…This fic has given me so many emotions.

First and foremost, Steve. Steve’s reluctance to acknowledge that he can (and really must step back, when you really think about it) now step back from Avenging due to his new circumstances killed me. He was so determined to carry on and do what he could and seeing him struggle with that made me feel so sad. I wanted to give Steve a big hug and yell “But Bucky loves you!!!” at him

Then there’s Bucky. Bucky who has to sit by and watch Steve try to come to terms with his new lot in life. I’m right there with Bucky. You can really feel how he has to try not to push Steve into acceptance because he knows that pushing will only get you a bullheaded Steve Rogers. Then, even though Bucky has found a sense of peace, there’s still those pesky pining feelings. You’d think some day I would get my fill of these two knuckleheads staring longingly at each other and thinking that the other couldn’t possibly love them back…

But you would be wrong.

I also loved the concept of Steve sacrificing his serum body and seeing how it affected him. The addition of a nice and fleshed out Wakandan medical procedure was also super cool. Using magnets to fictionally correct scoliosis is an awesome concept. Plus a fancy Wakandan medical stuff means we get to spend time with the amazing Shuri and who doesn’t love that?

Of course my all time favorite part of this fic is the fact that Steve and Bucky get to have their happy ever after with their goat children. I cannot resist a happy retirement fic and this one did not disappoint. So if you haven’t read it yet, go check it out. *shoos reader off to read this fic*

He was a grown man, not some high school kid with a crush. Steve’s hand was on his arm, not anywhere interesting. This was stupid.

His suddenly racing heart seemed determined to ignore the message.

Review:

Who would’ve thought a fic about stealing art could be so sweet and fluffy? Because that is exactly what I bring you today.

I love a good fic where a pre-serum Steve is out there disrupting the status quo and as an art person, I freaking adore how he is doing it. I really enjoyed the idea of Steve re-creating awesome art and then, not ready to simply settle for taking art out of the hands of snooty rich folks, painting in a little fuck you to them that they most likely will never notice. It’s a beautiful concept.

Then of course we have Bucky. Sweet somewhat shy Bucky with his massive crush on Steve. His internal dialogue is adorable and it’s one of the best things about this fic. I’m also strangely in love with the idea of Bucky as a rumpled professor. There’s just something about that image that makes me smile and honestly I’m not going to question why, I’m just going to enjoy the fact that this fic gave it to me.

This is a sweet little fic that would be perfect for a midday pick me up at lunch or just whenever you’re craving a bit of fluff. Kudos to the author for sharing with us.

Alrighty folks, here’s the start of one of my absolute favorite series!

In this lovely AU, we find the shenanigans of Officer Steve Rogers (usually accompanied by his right hand man Officer Sam Wilson) as he works the beat of his childhood neighborhood...and deals with a very built and frustratingly handsome civilian named Bucky Barnes.

First of all, I love the way this first part is set up. It smacks you right down in the middle of everything without a lot of exposition but don’t worry, because the author leaves plenty of clues for you to figure out the lay of the land. I also love how various common and mundane cop duties are used to introduce the solid amount of MCU characters that make up the cast of this universe.

Now there’s not too much Stucky here are first (and in order not to spoil, I’ll leave you to figure out why) but boy oh boy is there some thirsty Steve in here. And even better, it’s the kind of thirsty Steve wherein he attempts to be very subtle about his need to oogle one Bucky Barnes but he fails so hard. It’s hilarious and I’m very much here for Flustered Steve. There’s also a bit of smut to tide the reader over and of course, it is written extremely well. It’s not super explicit since this is a Mature rated fic but that in no means stops if from being super steamy.

And so here end-eth my fangirl ramblings about this first fic in this awesome series. I’ll be covering the rest of the parts in this series as well since they all deserve to be gushed over individually but for now I highly suggest you check this one out if you haven’t already.

Ahhh...who doesn’t love some an Bucky-spoiling Steve and an indulging-Steve Bucky? Because I do.

This was such a sweet little fic. I’m a big fan of any fic that is essentially a Stucky happy ever after and this definitely falls into that category. It also checks the ‘humor’ box on my list of fic preferences which is another awesome thing about it.

I love that Steve is approaching his mission to spoil Bucky with all that he deserves with the same intensity that he would use for taking out an enemy base but with a touch of over-eager golden retriever.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that glorious, glorious Sam makes an appearance in this fic. He tags along and makes hilarious comments and ragging on both Bucky and Steve which is something I truly enjoy.

All in all this is was great fic and would be perfect for a midday pick me up.

Warning...Warning...Fangirling Imminent...Fangirling Imminent…

Okay, this is one of the best freaking fics ever!

It’s the absolute epitome of softness and cuteness with a heaping dollop of sexiness. I love the idea of this universe so much and I wish that kind of soft oriented society was real because I want, nay, I need a bed pit. (Like seriously, where can I get one because I’m like a freaking terrier, I burrow like crazy). The whole idea of Institutionalized Softism as stated by the tags is an amazing concept and I’m ten thousand percent here for it.

So even before we add in the gloriousness of this fic’s Bucky and Steve, I’m already hooked but then the brilliant authors add in a socially awkward dweeb Steve and confused but determined Bucky. These special characterizations are the absolute cornerstone of this fic.

I am a super fan of bumbling Steve and this fic delivers in spades. Granted his initial loneliness at being pod-less made me sad at first and made me want to bury him in cuddles but once he starts trying to woo the Winter Soldier? Absolute Perfection in the form of sweetly stupidly worried Steve who is Extremely Concerned that he wins Bucky’s affection with paper flowers, baked goods, and proper hair care skills.

And then there’s Bucky aka the Winter Soldier, the most intimidating person at SHIELD...who uses Cosmo as the important research tool it is. I’m so in love with how Bucky is so enamored with Steve that his brain just cannot put the emotion into words, like his obsession with The Cowlick and The Shoulders. Bucky’s internal monologue is the freaking best and I will never be convinced otherwise because...melons and zucchini, that’s why.

Steve and Bucky’s courtship and ensuing romantic relationship completes the trifecta of supreme amazing that is this fic. The courtship is adorable and just frustrating enough to ensure the reader is one the edge of their seats waiting for them to Just DO IT. And once the guys move onto bedroom activities, well, we all know how much I enjoy a great combination of smut and humor.

So in order to cut off this ode to this fic before people get bored, I implore you to read this fic. It’s utterly fantastic and I guarantee you will enjoy every second. And again, hats off to the amazing authors on a brilliant creation.
