first off stiltwalker clowns are not defects or mutations of other festival clowns, while they both share similarities stiltwalkers are still classed as their own species with a variety of types within it. stiltwalkers are often cast out or put down for not hitting the ‘preferred’ humanoid look. in addition their more eldritch appearance has led to them being widely feared and even endangered.
they are not an aggressive species as most people think. in fact they are extremely docile and gentle, if not for their physical requirements they would make excellent clowns for beginners. for this reason they are great with children and new handlers, but are by no means a household pet. only extremely experienced handlers should keep these clowns.
stiltwalkers should never be permantly enclosed, it’s ideal to let them roam freely around your big top or general enclosure area. they will not attempt to stray from your troupes area once you have set it for thee. singular stiltwalkers have tendencies to wander however to find another of its species.. additionally platforms are required for resting, large trees and fences will work fine if nothing else is available. they can and will sleep standing upright but there are limits to their energy. any high big tops or decorated stadiums are used for longer housing or in case of weather events.
they respond well to the same diet as other festival clowns. any combination of those + corndogs for their energy will work. set flag pole feeding stations near their resting platforms, a standard baskets of food should be hoisted up everyday as their main meal and it’s recommended to let them snack on other food offered up.
Tumblr media
remember, if your stiltwalkers droop, slump or curl then you have a sick creature. fear to make large movements mean your environment isn’t safe for them. healthy stiltwalkers shouldn’t be afraid to frolick and jump around among themselves with ribbons and streamers.
i have a lot of love for this species and it kills me to see such gentle creatures mistreated so much.

a common theme in clown anatomy is their unique bone structures and air sacs. as always these differ in function and appearance between each main branch.  the sacs are normally located right under the costume layer, typically named the clowns second skin before you hit their main body and organs.
clowns have very strong lungs for honking and normally sport air sacs below their main ruffles/costume element. their threat displays typically centre on charging and honking. air sacs function in puffing up their costume in response to threats. mimes are very feathery and ruffled, they have hollowed bones and multiple air sacs for their intricate appearance. puffing up specific bits of their costumes aids for communication and body language.
jesters lack hollow bones and use the air sacs for flaring out their costume elements and ringing bells. a key feature of jesters is their threat displays in colour, they’re able to flush blood into certain parts of their costume to induce dramatic and frightening colours.

Cleaning Frills and Bells - At home advice for caring for your clown
If you own a Clown with bells, frills, or anything else that dirt, grime, or creme pie filling can easily get stuck in it’s important to make sure they’re cleaned frequently. The frequency depends on the number and type of frills, and most vets recommend anywhere from a few times a week to every day.  For frills, you’ll want to be delicate. A baby Shampoo/Water mixture with warm water works well, as do baby wipes. If they’re not too dirty, cotton balls and warm water will do fine. Make sure to get into every crease, and always rinse thoroughly. If left to dry, soap can become irritating to the clown’s dermal layer.
Bells are similar to teeth for most clowns; a toothbrush and special paste will help them be spick and span. It’s important to note that due to the hollow shape of the bells, things can get lodged in them easily, much to a clown’s irritation. Make sure to check regularly, especially if they’re incessantly shaking the bell in question. For cracked or broken bells, take your clown to the vet! Some clowns regularly shed their bells to grow new ones, but it can still be painful if not removed.

Also called the common or white clown, the whiteface clown is a popular species of domestic clown. They’re more relaxed in temperament than the average red clown, but tend to be less suited for young children and thus have fewer breeds.
I can’t believe i forgot to post this pet clown reference…

All about:
The Clowny
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The clowny is a fascinating breed of clown of currently unknown origins but may have been the result of crossbreeding or strange mutations that have evolved in spaces where humans are not populous. They are mostly found in Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and some parts of California, although there have been reported sightings of the clowny in New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada, these have not been confirmed at this time.
The clowny usually appears as a horse or pony with a curled rainbow or otherwise vibrantly coloured mane, colourful clothing, and a red bulbous growth on the bridge of the nose just above the nostrils (but some lack this trait). The red bulb is not a second nose but a brightly coloured sphere of cartilage of unknown purpose. Instead of the average horse noises, they make a variety of honking noises. The most common horse breed variants are the Appaloosa and the American Paint Horse, but the clowny can be a cross of any horse breed and any clown breed. It is important to note, however, that the purposeful breeding of clowns and horses to produce a clowny (or for any other reason) is highly illegal.
Their diets consist of grass, hay, grains, certain fruits and vegetables such as carrots and apples, cotton candy, funnel cake, snowcones, and one of the most important staples of their diet, circus peanuts. Clownies absolutely CAN NOT be pellet fed. Pellets do not have adequate nutritional value to give the clowny its much needed energy and strength.
Clownies are recommended to clown owners who have the experience and land necessary to care for regular horses and ponies since they act very similarily. They need a large area to roam and be ridden frequently. They pair extremely well with rodeo clowns and are excellent choices for livestock companions. If you are not a fan of horse riding, your rodeo clown will almost certainly be up for the job.
Some rare variations of clownies have been observed by field coulrologists, such as the zebra/clown crossbreed (the clownbra), or the donky/clown crossbreed (the clownkey), but have not been made available for legal acquisition at this time due to their unpredictable nature and unknown population status.
Do you know about the clowny? Talk about what you've observed!

Bathing your clown
I've seen so many different posts related to clown care and such but I've seen nothing on bathing or cleaning your clown which I hope is due to a consensus on bathing because it is a highly irregular process and can vary wildly between different species.
so far I've seen three different ways of cleaning clowns that are either specific to a breed or just generally accepted across different breeds.
Dust baths Some clowns such as some Pierrot, hobo, and other thicker/denser coated breeds need dust baths as opposed to soap and water because similar to chinchillas, if there's moisture under their coats then there's a possibility they could develop mold or other fungal infections which can be incredibly harmful or even deadly to your clowns.
Just leave them alone Some clown breeds actually could be harmed by the lack of their natural pheromones. Again Hobo clowns shouldn't be washed EVER unless it is medically necessary, they should be left to their own natural smell as it is an indicator of many things to this bred (what troop they are part of, who they're mated to, mood, etc.). Hobo clowns should be left with an optional dust basin to bathe in however that is OPTIONAL and should not be forced on the clown to be bathed.
Regular bathing and trimming. Of course there are clowns that need regular bathing and trimming just as any standard pet does. So far I've found that its typically show breeds, smaller clowns, and the more common family breeds that can be bathed regularly. Although, you should still use a clown safe scentless shampoo & conditioner as again sent is important to clowns. plus it shouldn't be anything that could stain them a different color.
A clown's nails should be filed down regularly and you should brush their coat & teeth regularly regardless of breed, but that's just common clown knowledge.
Please find what bathing method is best for the health of your clown, there are also exceptions to every rule but you should find what method is safest and healthiest for your clown and what makes them happiest.

This Blog Tastes Funny
[note: some links may not work on mobile]
Hi! This blog is for my silly and surreal worldbuilding project about an alternate version of our world where clowns are not people but rather a type of anomalous animal and thus are used as pets, entertainers/mascots, and even in agriculture and the meat industry.
If you've been on Tumblr for a while you'll quickly see the connection to Clown Husbandry which is certainly one of my main inspirations. However, I also want to credit Mutatedeye, especially the early work on their surreal webcomic Vertigo's Fun Land for the meatcore horror aspect of this world.
Although these influences are evident, I've also included details such as an alternate history of clown-related industries in the economic landscape (the eclownomy if you will) as well as speculative evolution/biology including a phylogenetic tree of how the different clown breeds are related. Additionally, I tried to expand on the world itself by creating clown-related megacorporations and ecosystems with other surreal circus themed flora and fauna.
All of this can be found under the 'Navigation' section of this blog (if you're on desktop, may not work for mobile). But all the worldbuilding lore can also be found on the Master Google Doc.
This blog will mostly serve as an archive for the art related to this project including things about the multiple clown OCs I've made set within this world :)
Thats all! Hope you enjoy my shenanigans

What We Need
So we have an old tent we can use it’s a little dull in color –got it from my grandfather so it was meant for mimes– but we figured we can fill it with more colorful accessories and such.
We need a scratching wall. –we’re thinking we can make our own–
We were told she preferred boxes and crates to the traditional clown car so we’re gonna have to get that together.
Candy floss machine. Speaking of which do you guys know any brands that do very well?
Other foods, which won’t be too hard to find.
And a good sized cleaning pool.
Probably a good fence to keep anything from Wandering in From the woods
We’re both really excited and can’t wait.
Anyone have any tips for harlequins? I couldn’t find much …

I saw this Pierrot at the local shelter and fell in love immediately. Should I adopt him? He seems to be very friendly. I owned circus clowns before, and I have a fairly big circus tent with lots of toys. But I never owned Pierrots before. Any tips on raising Pierrots?

Ahhhh, I'm going back to the clown market tomorrow, and I'll definitely be looking out for these cuties!!
!! Attention Clown Husbanders !!
I Have A Clown Breed Idea: Crayon Clowns! 🖍
Crayon clowns are a small breed, and the adults generally are between 0'6in tall and 2'0ft tall.
They have very simple, but colorful designs, and almost always have a Crayon in hand.
All Crayon Clowns have a white box on their stomachs (think teletubbies!) That they use to draw on to express their needs or emotions.
They may look something like this!
Tumblr media
They're very adorable, as you can see! This one is named Boba the clown.
Their shoes are often very big, as are their clothes. They enjoy wearing big clothing, and may try to steal or hide in their owners' clothes.
They are a very friendly social breed! They love playing with other clowns, and getting them in at least a pair is good for their wellbeing and welfare. Isolating them from other clowns will distress them and may cause them to try and run away, or to try to harm themselves.
They love drawing- all the time! They draw whatever comes to their minds, and don't care where they have to do it. Getting a lot of paper frequently is recommended, otherwise they may draw on your walls, counters, furniture, etc.
They need plenty of room to play, and having a lot of toys and activities to keep them occupied is good for them. They are very energetic though, and it takes a while to tucker them out. Playing with them until they have absolutely no energy often is not good for them, and isn't recommended.
They are omnivores that need to be fed twice a day. They like most fruits a lot, and need to eat them frequently, along with a consistent and healthy amount of well-cooked meat. Some vegetables need to be eaten every so often too! Occasional, small amounts of sweets or candies or soda won't hurt them, but frequent consumption will. They may be sneaky and try to eat more behind your back, so be mindful, and try to keep these where they won't be able to get them on their own. Caffeine or coffee is never recommended.
Feel free to ask any questions or concerns you may have about your clown! Have a good day! ♡

PSA TO ALL PARENTS LOOKING TO BUY THEIR CHILD A CLOWN!
Please do your research when picking the perfect silly companion, as we see far too many clowns getting brought to our sanctuary that were apparently ‘the wrong fit’ for the family.
For future reference here are some options of good first time clowns:
Birthdays, a subspecies of Party clown that are perfect for families with a few children. They’re not as outgoing as regular Party clowns but they are just as loving. Though be aware that they do need the same mental stimulation as all party clowns do.
Next is a Mime mix, Purebred Mimes can be a bit much for some people, but Mime mixes come with the quiet serene energy of a Mime without the more expensive lifestyle. They’re good for teens or older children.
Plush, Plush clowns are a bit pricey, but they’re the perfect clown for someone who wants a cuddle with their new friend. Plush clowns are good for older children, not toddlers, as toddlers tend to mistake them for actual stuffed toys.
Please look into clowns before buying them, they’re living creatures and need your help to live. Look into reputable breeders or go to your local clown shelter or sanctuary. Hope this helped, Have a lovely day!
