me, when people talk about "challengers", in a way that pushes out tashi duncan-donaldson put of the narrative, in favor of centering those poor uwu white boys 🥺 (esp a CERTAIN dude).

I'M YELLING BECAUSE THAT CAT IS SO FUNNY BUT ALSO BECAUSE I'M IN AGREEMENT WITH YOU!!!! yaoi is fun for sure, but it does get to a certain point in specific sections of the challengers fandom where i think people genuinely believe that challengers is a love story about art and patrick. as i always say, everything's open to interpretation, and as long as it's not hurting anyone, who cares, but it definitely doesn't sit well with me when tashi gets erased from the narrative. this movie centers around TASHI. art and patrick never would've had their lives flip upside down if it weren't for TASHI. (that's also not me saying it in a blaming way like, "ugh their lives would've been perfect if it hadn't been for tashi," i'm saying it in a way that they never would've ended up where they are in 2019 if it weren't for tashi) everything in that movie centers around tashi. the filmmakers even talked about how in scenes where the three of them were present, they didn't have the camera go from art to patrick or patrick to art, the camera also had to go through tashi. (idk if i explained that well, but i hope my point is clear sldkfjsldjkf)

ofc people are allowed to connect with the ships that they like and have preferences because gawd knows i do lol but i certainly feel a type of way when people insist on how challengers is a love story between art and patrick, and tashi just got in the way. it's...certainly a take 🥴 i have no problem with people preferring artrick and engaging with artrick content because i completely understand why it's a compelling ship. it's not like shipping artrick is the problem, it just starts becoming a problem when tashi is genuinely being framed as the obstacle between art and patrick's love.

and before people try whacking me again saying i think that challengers is a love story about art and tashi, even though i've never said that, i know it's also not about JUST art and tashi. art and tashi are my faves, and their relationship is the one that interests me the most, but ultimately, the movie IS about the three of them but specifically the three of them all together. and whether people want to throuple truth them or not, that's old discourse, and i still think everyone's allowed to interpret what they will with that, but the movie IS about the three of them. and tashi IS the center of everything that happens in that movie so!!

I'll NEVER forgive people for that mini hate train towards mike last year. because idk about you, but it just didn't feel forced, but FOR SOME reason, it felt extremely calculated... which is why people finally calling out shitty influencer interviewers in lieu of F4 press tour make me lowkey PISSED 😃

(also the people who were pulling off the "If He WeRe A WoMaN 🥴🤪" shit on him... true, a woman would get more hate. but how brave of you to assume I wouldn't also be calling BS. almost made me convinced that gen z cannot tell the difference between sarcasm and people who are genuinely mean 😭😭😭)

the mini hate train was so weird because it was over the most lowkey stuff??? mike would just be vibing, and the youtube comments would be like, THAT ONE GUY DOESN'T WANT TO BE THERE HE LOOKS SO RUDE WHY IS HE LIKE THAT, and i felt so confused reading those takes. i genuinely would rewatch some of the challengers press tour interviews trying to look at it from the pov that mike was rude. and then the fuckass interview at the met gala popped off, and i didn't get why people were calling him rude there, either.

it's been disheartening seeing how interviews are now about getting the next viral soundbite for tiktok because interesting questions are being replaced with the stupidest shit. it's rare to find interviews where the actors actually get to talk about their characters and dive deeper into them, and when those interviews DO exist, they're in hard to access places. still bitter about that one zoom interview mike and z did for oscars promo, and we only got to see the barest bones of it and get a couple quotes from it

the challengers press tour was also Not It imo, and idk if that's a popular or unpopular opinion now in the fandom, but i was so goddamn tired of interviewers asking them the same 12 questions they'd been asked the entire time. do you have a tennis background? what was your diet like? what was tennis training like? what was it like filming the three way kiss? who's the villain? i also get that that's kind of the point of these press tours, and it's status quo that they have to answer a lot of repetitive questions, but i'm definitely hoping that the next press tour we get with mike, maybe there'll be a bit more variety!!
