Future Days | Seblaine
Seventeen years had passed since Sebastian’s thirteenth birthday party. Blaine and Sebastian had never made up, only grew further and further apart. Sebastian had joined the Warblers and gotten popular while Blaine had remained a loser and joined the glee club. He had been devastated loosing his best friend at first, but after meeting Kurt and the other Nee Directions members had helped fix his broken heart. Kurt especially had been a huge help.He had quickly become the most important person in his life. From best friends and then boyfriends and now fiances, Blaine couldn’t have been happier.
The two of them had managed the tribulations of high school together with their friends, had gone to New York City together and college side by side and were now planning a wedding and the rest of their lives together. Blaine had continued his photography and had built up a pretty good career even having a few of his photos published and displayed in a gallery. He had also kept up his piano skills after being in glee club and played some music on the side at a music bar a few times a month. Kurt was a budding fashion designer and was currently in Paris on business with Isabelle Wright, the editor of Vogue magazine where he had been working for years. He had been trying to get Blaine to move there recently, it was tempting, but they had settled in New York so much, making it their home. Could they do the same in another city, another country?
Blaine hummed along to music he had on in the background as he edited photos on his computer. He sighed as he looked at a framed photo of him and Kurt smiling as he took a sip of his coffee and looked around the apartment. They were happy here. He supposed he could be happy anywhere as long as Kurt was with him. Hearing a knock on the door, he set his mug of coffee down and got up to answer the door, not recognizing the man on the other side of it. “Yes? Can I help you?”

David pushed Blaine to the side and sneered at him. “He’s….in the closet. Waiting for you.” he raised and eyebrow and all the other Warblers, except for Nick and Jeff, laughed and made a big show out of their agreement with David. They made their way up the stairs, leaving Blaine standing there.
Sebastian hadn’t known the Warbler’s left, but he had a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach when Hunter never entered the closet. He sat there for several minutes, the frown on his face growing deeper and deeper until he could feel tears welling up in his eyes. He opened them when Blaine whipped the door open and found Sebastian sitting there, his knees drawn up to his chest.
“What do you want?” he spat, making his way to his feet. Blaine had probably scared them off, he wasn’t anything like the Warblers. They hated Blaine, they obviously did. And Sebastian had no chance, zero chance, to be with Hunter with Blaine as his best friend. It made him angry and Sebastian stalked toward Blaine in the doorway of the closet. “Why’d you have to be so…so….!” he lost his words and shoved Blaine hard toward the basement. “You don’t even try to be cool, Blaine!” he shrieked as Blaine gathered his things to leave. He’d hurt his best friend, Sebastian knew that, but he was so upset that he could barely process what he’d done. He ran back into the closet, slamming the door shut and falling to the ground. He couldn’t let Blaine see him like this. He sat there for he didn’t know how long, thumping his head hard against the shelves, wishing he was anywhere else. Older, maybe. Better looking, popular. Happy.
Blaine gave David a warning look, not appreciating him pushing him aside. Not to mention how much that he hadn’t trusted David since the third grade when he tried to steal his pop rocks. He watched him and all of the Warblers leave through the door and Blaine knew he should try to stop them - Sebastian had wanted them at his party and would be devastated to find that they had all just left - but Blaine had to make sure they hadn’t done anything to Sebastian first. He had to make sure his best friend was okay.
He hurried down the stairs and set the bowl on the table, hesitating a second before opening the closet, sighing in relief seeing Sebastian sitting on the floor unharmed. “Seb...” he started, going to comfort him and explain what had happened. Blaine knew he would be upset, but they could work that out and then have their weekend just like they had planned all along. “Sebastian -” he said in surprise as he pushed him back. Did he think this was his fault? Blaine would never do anything to hurt him, he knew that right? “I don’t - I did try to be ‘cool for you! I wanted you to have a good time at your party - “ he said, hurt that Sebastian couldn’t see that. Hurt that he couldn’t be enough for his friend. “Why do you think they’re so cool anyways? They’re a bunch of jerks who don’t care about you at all!” He glared at him, tired of being treated like he didn’t matter or like he was invisible. It wasn’t what friends did and he hated that his friend seemed too forget about that everytime the Warblers were around. Blaine grabbed his bag, not wanting to even look at his friend right now. Sebastian slammed the closet door and Blaine rolled his eyes, not wanting to listen or deal with his friend want to be just like the guys that made fun of him everyday. Blaine looked at the closet door one more time before heading upstairs and towards his house.

Sebastian’s face lit up. “Yeah, great idea B!” his eyes got wide and he called out to the group. “Hey guys, how about a game to get the party started?”
Sebastian didn’t notice, but a few of the Warblers, Wes and Trent snickered and rolled their eyes. David smirked and nodded his head. Sebastian smiled back and glanced at Blaine, biting his lip. David called out to the group. “How about seven minutes in heaven?” He asked, eyes darkening in a way that Sebastian assumed was playfulness, but if he looked hard enough, he would have seen the look of someone planning to play a very cruel trick on an undeserving human being. Sebastian’s eyes, however, got a little mischievous. The thought of playing a party game like spin the bottle or 7 minutes in heaven sounded very cliche and kind of 90′s but the idea of Sebastian being able to kiss Hunter….even on a dare or something, made his heart leap. He wasn’t sure how to go about it, but he got the courage up to jump into the group and start talking anyway.
“Okay, since it’s Sebastian’s birthday, I think he should go first….” David looked around the room, scanning his eyes on the others, pretending to make a choice. His eyes lingered on Blaine, looking him up and down before deciding against it. He kept scanning, stopping directly on Hunter. “Hunter.” he smirked, bringing his finger up to beckon Hunter. Sebastian swore his heart skipped a beat and the world stood still. Seven whole minutes with Hunter, just the two of them.
Blaine smiled a little at Sebastian. At least he liked his idea. They were friends. The two of them knew what kind of things that the other liked to do and could be in sync really well. At least they could most of the time. Blaine felt Sebastian slipping away from him more and more each day. His eyes widened when he heard David announce the game. Seven minutes in heaven? The one where you went into a closet with someone and kissed and did whatever else for seven minutes? Blaine didn’t think he could do that. He had never even kissed a boy before, he didn’t want his first kiss to be in a dark closet with someone he didn’t know. Sebastian was the boy Blaine wanted to kiss. What if he got stuck in there with someone that didn’t even like him? Blaine didn’t want to be made fun of even more than usual. He had meant they should play board games or something. Not this...
He looked over at Sebastian, surely his friend didn’t want to play this game. He sighed inwardly seeing a mischievous look on his friend’s face. So this was happening. Great. Seb was chosen to go first as the birthday boy and Blaine looked up at David, trying not to look too hopeful as he wished that he would be chosen. His heart sank in his chest as he heard Hunter’s name get called. Of course he was chosen, Sebastian had a huge crush on him. It was his birthday after all. “I um - I’m going to go grab some more snacks,” he said escaping upstairs, needing to get out of there for a few minutes. He couldn’t watch Hunter and Sebastian go into the closet together and didn’t want to imagine everything they would do in seven minutes. Blaine knew his friend didn’t like him the way he did, but seeing Sebastian with someone else would hurt so much that Blaine didn’t want to even think about it. Blaine sighed as he leaned against a wall, letting his head fall back against it with a quiet thud. He should have looked at the time so he knew when the seven minutes were up. He didn’t want to go back down there and have them still be in the closet.
Blaine sighed and went into the kitchen, helping himself. He had been over at Sebastian’s house since he was a kid so he knew where everything was. Grabbing a bag of chips from the pantry, he poured them in a bowl and then looked at the clock and running his hands over his face. He had to pull it together. This was for Sebastian. He could do this. Blaine sucked in a breath and put on a smile before heading back downstairs with the chips before being blocked with the Warblers coming up the stairs. “What’s going on?” he asked, frowning in confusion at the other boys. Where was Sebastian?

Sebastian grinned and nudged his friend a little. This was so silly. He doubted that the wishing dust even worked, but he smiled over at Blaine anyway, thinking about what he could wish for. He wasn’t sure what he’d wish for, but he closed his eyes, thinking hard before the doorbell rang. Sebastian jumped up excitedly. “B, that’s gotta be the Warblers!” he exclaimed, grabbing the book off the table carefully. “I’m just going to put this away. I don’t want anything to happen to it.” Sebastian explained, opening the closet and placing it carefully on a shelf. He shut the door and ran toward the stairs. “I’ll go get the door. Blaine, this is so exciting!” he called as he ran up the stairs to answer the door.
The Warblers were standing there, dressed as nicely as ever, David in front with his eyebrow arched in an attitude he always seemed to have. Sebastian greeted them and let them in, telling them the party was downstairs. He could barely speak as they walked in, piling their coats in his arms. At last, Hunter walked through the door, followed by Nick and Jeff. He didn’t say anything as Nick and Jeff smiled, a lot more genuine than the other Wablers, honestly, his eyes glued to Hunter. He couldn’t speak as Hunter just smirked, placing his coat on the pile. Nick and Jeff, Sebastian noticed, hadn’t placed their coats on the pile, keeping them in their own arms.
Sebastian followed them down the stairs, placing the armful of coats on the chair in the corner. He gave a big grin to Blaine, who looked a bit nervous standing on his own in the corner.
Hearing the knock on the door, Blaine turned his head towards the sound, wishing once again that day that this weekend could just be him and Sebastian. Maybe he would get up the courage to tell his friend how he really felt about him. He watched his friend jump up and put the photo album in the closet and then run upstairs. Sighing quietly, Blaine got up from the couch and rubbed his palms on his pants out of nervousness. He wanted Sebastian’s birthday to be perfect and now with the Warblers coming over, he couldn’t plan what they were going to do. Going over to the stereo, he put some music on, hoping the Warblers didn’t have complete different tastes in bands. He started bobbing his head to the tune, trying to relax some to try to enjoy the party. The Warblers came down the stairs and Blaine smiled at them, waving his hand, still bobbing his head to the music. “Hi guys,” he said, trying to be welcoming to them. He saw them looking around the room, judging their decorations. Blaine hoped that they at least liked the music and could still have a good time. He looked at Sebastian as he came downstairs and smiled a little at him, trying to relax more. “So, um should we play a game or something?” he said looking at Sebastian trying to give him a fun party.

Sebastian smiled softly at his best friend. He still couldn’t believe that Blaine had done such a thing for him. It was wonderful, really. Sebastian smoothed his hand over the pages as he turned each one, grinning fully at every one. He closed the cover when he got to the end, looking over at Blaine with a smile. “I’m so glad you’re my best friend. Thanks for everything, B.”
Blaine smiled as he watched Sebastian flip through the book. He could tell that the other boy really appreciated the gift he had worked so hard on. “You’re welcome. You’re my best friend too,” he said, giving Sebastian’s hand a squeeze. “Oh! Wait!” Blaine suddenly said, remembering the other gift he had for his friend. “I also got you this,” he said pulling out a small package from his pocket. “You might think its stupid, but I liked it. This is Wishing Dust and on your birthday, you get a wish,” he said smiling at Sebastian as he opened the packet and began sprinkling the purple glitter over the album he had made. “‘The wishing dust knows what’s in your heart of hearts. It will make all your dreams come true,’” he said reading the packet as he finished sprinkling the magical dust. “Make a wish, Seb,” he said, shifting a little, wondering what his friend was going to wish for.

Sebastian gave a soft smile at his friend, squeezing his hand, before pulling away and grabbing at the present. “What is it?” He asked, as he ripped open the wrapping paper with a grin to reveal the scrapbook. Sebastian audibly gasped and immediately looked at Blaine. “It’s a scrapbook!” he smiled, opening it and looking back at the pages. There was their whole friendship up until that point there on the pages of the book. It was beautiful. Sebastian could tell it took him a long time to make it.
“Blaine…This is…amazing.” he breathed, not taking his eyes off the book as he flipped through the pages. Sebastian could really see Blaine’s talents then and he couldn’t believe it. Blaine was….he was wonderful. He now realized why Blaine liked himself the way he was; he was already special. Sebastian turned to him and smiled again, by now, a permanant fixture on his face. “I can’t believe you did this….it’s perfect.” He said, holding Blaine’s gaze.
Blaine smiled fondly at Sebastian as he opened his gift. He had worked really hard on it and he was really happy that he could see that and appreciate it. Sebastian meant so much to him and he couldn’t bear to think that he might lose him. He stared at him as he looked through the book, trying not to think of what actually being his boyfriend would be like. Getting to hold his hand and be by his side forever and to kiss him...he bit his lip a little, shaking his head not wanting to get caught staring at his lips.
“I’m glad you like it,” he said smiling proudly at his hard work. Blaine sat next to him on the couch, looking at the book with him, but also wanting to be closer to him. Sitting so their legs were against each others, he pointed out things in the book as he flipped the pages, occasionally glancing over at him longingly, wishing they could just spend all weekend like this.

Sebastian smiled at his friend as he picked up the streamers and began to help him. Sebastian continued to dance, pushing Blaine playfully to dance too and soon, they were both dancing like dorks to some catchy pop tune. It was times like these Sebastian was glad Blaine was his friend.
“Looks good, don’t you think, B?” He asked, grinning wide at his best friend. He looked around the room. Definitely cool. The Warblers might actually enjoy themselves. Maybe. His eyes caught on Blaine’s gift on the table and his smile grew. “Blaine! That looks great! Can I open it?” he said, commenting on Blaine’s beautiful gift wrapping skills. He rushed to the table and picked it up, glancing over at Blaine. “Hey, B, where’s your bowtie?” He asked, noticing now that his best friend was not wearing his usual bowtie.
Blaine laughed at Sebastian as he playfully pushed him into dancing along with him. He grinned as they danced like dorks, twirling and taking his hand and spinning him to the music. He wished that the two of them could stay friends like this forever but had the sinking feeling that wasn’t going to be the case. He pushed that thought aside for now, wanting to focus on his friend and his birthday.
“I think it looks perfect,” he said admiring their work. He didn’t know what the Warblers considered cool, but Blaine thought it looked pretty great. “Yes! You definitely can!” he said proudly, excited for Sebastian to see the photo album he had meticulously made. The album had pictures of the two of them he had taken over the years throughout their friendship. He hadn’t taken them all considering he didn’t have his camera or the ability to take pictures all his life, but Blaine thought it was pretty special. There were also small mementos in the book such as ticket stubs and programs, trinkets they had made on camping trips, small shells from the beach and pressed flowers. Blaine touched his neck, shifting a little awkwardly at Sebastian’s gaze. “I decided not to wear one. Change things up a bit,” he said smiling, not wanting Sebastian to know the real reason why he decided not to wear one. He needed to be cool. The Warblers did not think bowties were cool. “Open your present,” he said, changing the subject.

Blaine said hi to Sebastian’s Mom, smiling and giving her a hug. She was like a second mother to him considering how much he was over at her house. He was happy that all the food and decorations he had helped with we’re coming along perfectly for her sons birthday.
He hurried down the stairs, smiling when he saw his best friend singing and dancing as he hung up decorations. He was adorable when he was like this dancing and singing without a care in the world. He loved watching him like this. He snapped a few shots of Sebastian, finding his favorite photos were the ones when no one knew there was a photo being taken. God, he had it so bad for him. But he was never going to like him that way. They were just friends after all. He was just going to have to get used to that. “Looks great so far. Need some help?” Blaine said setting his bag down on the floor out of the way and placing his gift on the table. He picked up another roll of streamers and began hanging them up as well.

blaine-in-photos:
“You can open it before the party,” he said smiling at him. He left out the part about opening the gift before the Warblers got there. Blaine knew they wouldn’t understand how much time and effort he had put into the gift. Unique gifts were always meant to be given privately anyways. He wished he could have Sebastian all to himself tonight for his birthday, but he knew the Warblers coming over was a big deal for him.
“Yeah! I can get changed and get ready and come on over! I already helped your mom make some of the food. Of course we didn’t know more people were coming…we may have to order some pizzas or something,” he said, smiling knowing both of them loved pizza anyways. He was trying to be optimistic about the party. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. All of the Warblers couldn’t be exactly like David and Wes right?
“I can bring it right over!” he said as they got to their houses. He waved to Sebastian as he rushed into his house, giving his mom a quick hi before running upstairs to his room. Blaine had already meticulously wrapped up Sebastian’s gift yesterday and had packed an overnight bag, so now all he had to do was change and head over to help set up. He had already picked out an outfit, but now that the Warblers were coming over, he questioned his choice. They were supposed to be ‘cool’ right? Question was, how was he supposed to dress cool? Did he even have anything that was cool? He pondered for a while, looking through his clothes before deciding on a nice pair of jeans, and a button up, deciding to skip the bowtie he was originally going to wear.
He grabbed his bag, gift and camera and said bye to his mom before rushing out the door and heading next door. Blaine knocked on the door before opening it, still wanting to be polite even though he was over there all the time. “Hello?” he called out as he went inside.
Sebastian’s mom called out a happy hello from the kitchen and his dad waved from the living room, grinning from ear to ear, shouting out that Sebastian was already in the basement.
Sebastian hadn’t heard anything from Blaine since he’d parted with him after school, so he had no idea when he’d be over. He assumed rather soon, there was still a lot left to do for the party. He noticed that his mom had already done quite a lot and he was pleased that his family cared so much about his birthday. But they were still all over him when he got home, worrying over him as he walked in the door, making sure to give him too many hugs and kisses and overall bothering him. Sebastian had retreated downstairs as soon as he could to make sure everything looked alright.
Sebastian turned on the radio as soon as possible, searching for the right music for the party. When he finally found a what he was looking for, he grinned and started pulling things out to decorate. He was hanging streamers, standing on a chair, shaking his butt to the tune of the music when Blaine came down the stairs. He didn’t hear anything, just continued to sing and attempt to hang the streamers.

Sebastian grinned back, eyes wide with excitement. “When do I get to open it?” He asked, not bothering to mask his excitement. Blaine was actually very artistic, he thought so anyway. Blaine was always taking pictures and they were good pictures, at that. It made Sebastian happy to see Blaine’s smiling face behind his camera, even though a lot of others might not see it that way. He wondered if Blaine would embarass him at the party, taking too many pictures. Sebastian pushed that thought away quickly, feeling bad for even thinking like that.
“You’ll come over to my house to help set up, right? Can we do it then?” he asked, excited to see what Blaine had gotten him for his birthday. Blaine always gave him the best gifts; he was so thoughtful and considerate and knew exactly what Sebastian wanted. Sebastian was always appreciative of Blaine and he knew that whatever Blaine would give him would be perfect.
Sebastian took a moment to look at his best friend in front of him. He looked like he always looked; camera around his neck, dressed rather nicely. Sebastian had always thought Blaine was a nice looking boy, he wondered why no one else thought so. He wondered then if maybe one of Hunter’s friends would like Blaine too. One day, they could even double date! A small part of him knew this was unlikely, but he forced himself to believe it anyway, Blaine was his best friend after all.
“B, I can’t wait to see your gift!” he exclaimed, pushing all the negative thoughts out of his head, focusing on his best friend.
“You can open it before the party,” he said smiling at him. He left out the part about opening the gift before the Warblers got there. “No idea.” Sebastian sighed, still smiling. “But it’s just gotta be cool. We can be cool, right B?” he asked, now that Blaine had caught up to him and they were walking home, their steps falling in sync. Sebastian never dropped his hand from Blaine’s, still holding it as they walked together. It definitely wasn’t uncommon to hold hands; Sebastian and Blaine had grew up together, they lived next door to each other all their lives. Blaine was Sebastian’s best friend, and he knew that he wasn’t very interested in popularity or being a part of the Warblers. Blaine and his camera were perfectly content where they were. Sebastian wondered why Blaine wouldn’t want to be more than the losers they were. Sebastian was tired of being the guy in the shadows, he couldn’t believe Blaine wanted to be there.
Sebastian continued to babble on about ways they could make the party cool, Blaine obviously becoming quieter and quieter as they grew closer to their neighborhood. Sebastian realized that he’d been talking too much about the Warblers again and he had a feeling that Blaine was feeling left out. He told himself that Blaine and him would be best friends forever; they even had bracelets that said so. But would the Warblers want Sebastian around if Blaine was there too? He told himself that they would, but in the back of his head, Sebastian knew they wouldn’t.
“Hey B, you know, you’re still my best friend right?” Sebastian asked suddenly, slowing his steps and looking at his best friend.
“Yeah, we can totally be cool,” Blaine said smiling at Sebastian as they walked home hand in hand. He already thought that they were pretty cool. Yeah no one else in school might have thought so, but Blaine didn’t care about what they thought. As long as Sebastian was with him he was good especially when he was holding his hand like this. Their hands seemed to fit perfectly together they always had ever since they were kids. Blaine knew that he could always rely on his friend to be there for him. The two of them were always together growing up, becoming pros at sneaking out of their houses to see the other one and having walkie talkies to talk to each other as they looked out their windows to see each other, often staying up late and talking until they fell asleep if they weren’t together.
The two boys went to camp together during the summer and even sometimes went on vacation together with their families. It was one of of these excursions to the beach where they had picked out their matching friendship bracelets that they never took off. Blaine believed that they would be friends forever, but had this awful feeling in his gut that the Warblers weren’t going to understand that. They were starting high school next year. How was Blaine going to survive that without his best friend? He secretly wanted the Warblers not to accept him, but would never voice that aloud, knowing that was selfish. Blaine wanted Sebastian to be happy, and if joining the Warblers made him that way, then Blaine was going to support him. Its what friends did for each other even if it broke his heart a little. Why couldn’t he be good enough for Sebastian?
Blaine looked at Sebastian as they slowed, his heart catching a bit in his throat at Sebastian’s words. “Yeah, of course. Best friends forever, right S?” he asked, squeezing the other boy’s hand before pulling him into a hug, reaching up a little due to Sebastian starting to become taller than him. Maybe he would catch up in a few years. Blaine blinked away tears as they broke apart, not wanting to show the other boy how upset he was. Squeezing his hand again as they neared their houses, Blaine smiled at him as he tried to change the subject away from the Warblers. “I can’t wait to give you your present. You’ll never guess what it is,” he said grinning at Seb, proud at all the hard work he had poured into his gift for him and how he had kept it a secret as he had been working on it.

Sebastian’s grin grew even wider when David told them he’d be coming to his party. He couldn’t believe it! David and The Warblers were coming to his party! This was a dream come true! Sebastian tried not to look excited as David continued. “You know…I think maybe Hunter may want to come.” David raised an eyebrow, searching for any response from Sebastian. Hunter was a Warbler as well, one of their strongest soloists. He was also on the football team; he had the body of a dream and a voice like honey. Sebastian had the biggest crush on him. He never thought Hunter would show his face at his party. At Sebastian’s house. It made Sebastian giddy, but he reminded himself to stay calm; he didn’t want to look like a loser in front of The Warblers.
“Oh, that would be great. The Warblers are more than welcome to come.” Sebastian nodded, still a little in a daze.
David and his posse smirked and rolled their eyes at Blaine, who obviously was uncomfortable, shoving past them. It took a few moments before Sebastian turned back to Blaine, the biggest smile on his face. “B! They…the Warblers are coming to my party!” he exclaimed, grabbing Blaine’s hands excitedly. “I could be a Warbler!” he pulled Blaine into a hug, squeezing him tightly before pulling away, keeping ahold of Blaine’s hand. “Oh my God, and Hunter!” He closed his eyes, grinning wildly. “Blaine. We have to get home!” he tugged Blaine’s arm, bringing him close to him, starting off toward the door. “I think now is the best time for one of your selfies!” Sebastian smirked, grabbing playfully at Blaine’s camera.
Blaine’s heart sank when David said Hunter would come. It was no secret that Sebastian has a crush on the other boy. And how could he not? Hunter was everything a guy could want - he was popular, on the football team,a good singer and was incredibly attractive. How could Blaine ever come anywhere close to being like him? Blaine was stupid to think that he ever had a chance with Sebastian. Who would want a loser like him?
He sighed as the Warblers walked past them, trying not to be too disappointed about how they could just ruin all the plans they had made with one conversation. “Yeah. how about that?” he said to Sebastian, putting a smile on his face even though he wanted to just sit and sulk. “Wow...yeah, that would be great...” he said, his smile fading a little at the thought of his friend joining the popular group as he was pulled into a hug. Would he ever get to hang out with him again? The Warblers were always together and they hated Blaine. Being a Warbler was everything that Sebastian wanted, but he wouldn’t give up their friendship for that would he?
Blaine frowned a little, knowing he could never be like Hunter was. He was short and not athletic so no sports team wanted him and he definitely didn’t have any confidence about himself. He was a loser and was okay with that. It killed him inside that Sebastian was not okay with that. He followed along behind Sebastian as he pulled him towards the door, smiling as his friend’s infectious smile as he grabbed at his camera. “Okay, okay,” he said, taking the lens cap off before setting it up and turning it towards the two of them, leaning towards Sebastian. He put on a fake smile as he took the picture, knowing that he would just end up cutting himself out of it and saving the picture of his friend’s excited face. “So...how are we supposed to make this party cool?” he asked as they headed out of the door. He had never been to a ‘cool’ party before. He had no idea what kids did at one or what David was going to expect. He didn’t want them walking out on the party as soon as they got there.

Sebastian ignored Blaine and looked in awe at the group in front of him. David and Wes, the groups leaders, seemed to tower over them, even though they were all the same size. “Hey, Sebastian.” David nodded, then looked at Blaine. “Wayne.” he snorted in disgust, rolling his eyes.
Sebastian dismissed the purposeful change of Blaine’s name and grinned at the group in front of them. God, they were so perfect. He wondered, probably for the millionth time, what it’d be like to be in such a group. He’d be popular, a rockstar. Everyone would love him. He just had to get in with the cool group, just had too. “You’re guys’ performance last night was amazing.” Sebastian grinned widely, flashing his braces and looking back at the other guys in the group. “One of the best.”
“It was alright.” David said, sounding bored. Thad pipped up from the back, “No way, David, your solo was the best you’ve ever done!” and David smiled, raising his eyebrows, a blush rising toward his cheeks, obviously loving the attention. “Anyway. It’s your birthday today, huh?” he asked, eyeing the ribbon on Sebastian’s shirt, a gift from Blaine he’d been given that morning, proclaiming it was his birthday. It had obviously been a joke, both boys had laughed, but Sebastian had pinned it on anyway, even though he looked like a dork and even more of a loser than normal. Sebastian felt honored and happy to have Blaine as a friend and to have him make such a big deal out of his 13th birthday. But now, he felt almost embarrassed to have David noticing it. His hand instinctively went up to finger the ribbons nervously.
“Yeah. Yeah, it’s my birthday.” Sebastian smirked, trying to sound just as bored and over-it as David did when he talked, but it was still painfully obvious that Sebastian was definitely still excited about his birthday. “You know. B and I are having a party tonight at my place. You guys can come if you want.”
Blaine rolled his eyes at David getting his name wrong. He had corrected him so many times. He knew the other boy knew his name. He just didn’t care to remember it which was super annoying and wasn’t funny at all. Wayne and Blaine weren’t even remotely close to being spelled the same even if they sounded similar. He didn’t call him any stupid names. Blaine sighed a bit hearing Sebastian gush over David and the Warblers. Yeah, okay their performance had been pretty good, but it wasn’t like it was the best show ever. Sebastian was a better singer than David was anyways. He knew that for sure from so many nights staying up late singing along to movies and the radio in the car. Blaine could listen to Sebastian sing all day.
He resisted rolling his eyes again as all of the Warblers praised David as well. What must it be like to have so many people stroke your ego like that? It ll seemed so fake to Blaine. No one could say what they really thought because they had to tell David how great he was at all times. Blaine was sure it would get annoying. He would rather people just say what they really thought about him even if it was bad. Better to be honest than tell a lie.
Blaine turned his head and smiled at Sebastian as he showed David the ribbon that he had given him that morning. He was super excited for his birthday and wanted everything to be perfect for his best friend. He had been working on his gift for months so it was absolutely perfect and had even helped the other boys’ mom with the decorations and food for the party. They were going to have a perfect night, just the two of them playing video games, watching his favorite movies, maybe some karaoke and Nerf guns...
At least they were until Sebastian invited David and the Warblers to the party. Was he being serious? What happened to the two of them having a perfect night? Blaine stared at Sebastian in shock, not believing that he just invited so many people that he hated to the party. How was he supposed to hang out with Sebastian when David was going to be there for him to fawn over some more? “You - I thought - Yeah...you should come...The more the merrier...” he said, trying to sound happy for Sebastian. Blaine knew how much Sebastian wanted to be friends with them, how much he wanted to be a Warbler. He looked over at Sebastian, disappointment clearly in his eyes as e tried to convey how much he didn’t like that David and his friends might come and crash their party. Sebastian probably couldn’t even tell how not happy Blaine was as he thought about how the Warblers might come to his party. They would have to have their perfect night another time. “We might stop by. If we aren’t busy,” David said, looking at Blaine as if silently asking if he was going to be there or not. “Make sure its a cool party,” he said, sharing a laugh with his friends, knowing that two losers were throwing it. They would have to bring the party to them.

When You’re 13 | Seblaine
Sebastian rolled his eyes at his best friend. “Really, Blaine, do you have to take pictures of everything?” the small smile fighting onto his face proved he was only kidding. Blaine was always with his camera, always singing, always…happy. He seemed perfectly content to be who he was. Sebastian, however, was not. Blaine was his only friend, well the only one that really mattered anyway. Sebastian wasn’t anything special, he didn’t believe so anyway, but he knew he could be. If he could just find his way into the popular circle, Sebastian knew he could rule this school, as the leader of the Warblers. The schools most popular group, the Warblers, had everything. Everyone loved them, everyone wanted to be them. They were literally untouchable. But Sebastian was, in lack of a better word, a loser. He looked down at his pictures and gave a huff, he looked ridiculous. “Look at these, B, I look like shit.” he pushed them toward his best friend, just as the Warblers approached. Sebastian’s eyes widened as they stopped in front of Blaine and him. “H-hey, David.” he said, stepping forward and pushing his school pictures into Blaine’s chest.
Blaine smiled at his friend as he snapped another picture of him. He loved taking pictures of everything around him and especially of his best friend. Blaine and Sebastian had been best friends for years and over that time he had developed a crush on him. Blaine was afraid to tell him, not wanting to ruin their friendship. He was afraid of even coming out to Seb and especially to his parents. What if they kicked him out? And what if Sebastian just thought he was weird and didn’t want to be friends anymore? He couldn’t bear that if it happened. So for now Blaine would take pictures from afar and hide his feelings. “No you don’t. You look great,” Blaine said taking the pictures ad turning to his favorite one - a picture of him and Sebastian taken by another friend of his. He held the picture, about to show Sebastian when they were shoved into his chest as David and the other Warblers walked up They were the leaders and the most popular kids in school and Blaine hated that Sebastian wanted to be a part of them. His friend wasn’t like them at all why would he ever want to be them? Blaine sighed as he took the rest of his pictures and began to put them in his bag, not wanting the Warblers to take them and damage them like they had done with so may others. He nodded at David and his friends, hoping they would pass them by and ignore them like they usually did. Blaine didn’t mind being on the bottom of the social chain as long as Sebastian was there with him.
