Interesting to see the author reuse the old sketch featured at the end of the chapter in the old version. Good to know that gem was not forgotten lol.
YongYong's announcement.

Hello, I'm Yong Yong Yong. First of all, I'm so sorry to visit you late every time. ㅠㅠ
(Moreover, it's too late today. I sincerely apologize to those who waited for me.)
I have to show you a good performance as long as you waited, but I didn't manage my work schedule well, and the schedule, which had been delayed little by little, didn't recover and it seems to have been delayed continuously. (I think I wasn't prepared enough. I'm so sorry ㅠㅠ))
So, BH will be on leave for 4 weeks to reorganize.
I'll prepare well to have a smooth and stable serialization during the rest period and come back. Thank you to those who watch BH always. //ㅠㅠ//
<Black Haze> will be on next Tuesday, September 2nd at 10 p.m.
(*Short-term rest will not be previewed. Free 29th episode/ Preview 38th episode will be open at 10 p.m. on September 2nd, the return day.)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I'm so sorry I keep showing you that I'm late. ㅠㅠ
The closing notice will be added to the bottom of the manuscript soon.
I will prepare well during the closing period and try to show you a good side in the future.
Always take care of your health in hot weather and have a happy day.
Thank you always.

I was hoping the author would at least take a break after the arc was over, but it seems like they're taking a break half-way instead.
I'm glad, because this is better for the author and hopefully we'll get the next part planned and created with better quality once it returns.
Guys, finally, BH will be on hiatus for 4 weeks!

#black haze#remake#news#yongyong#reblog#I wonder if the author could possibly get assistants during that time#it would be nice if they can so there'll be less stress on the author and maybe the releases will be more on time

BH remake ch 37
Last time I said that there seems to be a part missing from the old version where Tessiana tries to ensure Yuti's safety while stepping up to deal with the situation herself... but I think we just got the equivalent of that scene in the remake during this chapter.
Since Tessiana still leaves Yuti with Lapis while taking action to resolve the situation herself.
Something I found interesting among the chances made though, is that for once the author seems to have taken a cool moment Rood had and given it to another character. 0.0
In the old version when the mana puppet attacks Lidusis, ROOD was the one who blocked the attack. But in this version it is Tessiana who does so instead.
This scene difference in the remake seems to be the result of two separate scenes being merged together; as in the old version Tessiana first attacks it as soon as Khan came asking for help only for the attack to go straight through it, then the mana puppet aims for Lid which causes Rood to block it. But in the remake, mana puppet first attacks Lidusis and Tessiana attacks it in retribution, consequently being the one who saves Lidusis instead.
I'm glad for the change, because I keep feeling like the side characters are getting even more side-lined in this version. As for the reason for the change, it could be to give Tessiana a bit more action or that the mechanics of how the mana puppet's magic works has been changed (and an attack like that can't really be blocked by unawakened Rood as effectively...?)
In the design department it seems like there's been a change to Tessiana's awakened design and the ice effects no longer covers her skin as much, just making it look really pale instead.
I'm not sure if this was the case before as well for the remake since we saw her transformed so briefly (and her fight with Shic is significantly shorter than before). But if it was, I finally see it clearly now. Thank God I hadn't drawn any fanart of remake awakened Tessiana all wrong yet, phew.
Linus' shield has also gotten an epic redesign for the remake.
Looks much prettier now! (Even if it visually feels less effective to me thanks to the holes everywhere now lol. But important thing is that it still does keep our grape boy from being drenched in yuck water!)
But for the more plot relevant changes, Tessiana awakens much sooner in the remake; transforming with her first attack. But in the old version she remained unawakened until much later when she tried one last joint attack at the puppet with Khan with maximum output.
That part was really cool, but this event no longer occurs in the remake at all. Maybe in the old version the scene was used to show how unusual and difficult to deal with the mana puppet was as an opponent, and the author decided this time the characters would be smart enough to realise it would be futile to attack after the first attempt...?
In which case I understand, but it sucks for Khan who got one of his only cool and battle-useful moments there blocking the mana puppet with his defensive magic while Tessiana attacked it with physical... but in the remake we instead just get him getting half-drowned in a black tsunami:
In complete contrast to this, Tessiana got a cool new part that was not there in the old version at all:
She launches an attack to destroy the magic stone used for the teleportation to save them all. None of this is a thing in the old version at all, easily making it the biggest change in this chapter.
As I mentioned last time, in the old version there is a part where Tessiana asks Rood to break out of the magically sealed doors taking Yuti and the few others around with him to safety.
This part appears to be the equivalent and upgraded version in the remake; instead we have Rood thinking ahead that there is no way to evacuate everybody there through the doors and so they need to interrupt the teleportation to save everybody there. Rood's best idea is to destroy the teleportation circle (magic circle expert's brain is on full throttle) but Tessiana thinks further and decides to destroy the whole magic stone with brute force instead... and manages to do accomplish this feat, alas as it's not a normal teleportation this didn't stop the process as expected.
I felt this before, and I do now... I think the way Tessiana's powers work have been changed. In the old ver there was an emphasis on speed (such as when she slices off Rood and Shic's hair during fights as they were too slow to dodge, which are absent in the remake) but in the new version her strength seems to be a bigger focus. In all likelihood unleashing a powerful attack from that range may not have been something the old Tessiana could pull off. I'm glad for the change if it makes her fight better like in this scene. In terms of character, I'm also glad we got to see Tessiana's dutiful and protective knightly side here like we did in the old version.
It's definitely one of her coolest scenes now, and I'm happy to see Rood just monologuing the situation in his head the whole time while Tessiana is doing the combat and saving for a change (he has enough cool scenes already, spare some for the lady~). XD

Good to know I was not the only one obsessively checking and waiting with the same thought process.
Lmao.
Please give YongYong-nim a break. 😔
#black haze#reblog#news#remake#I started wondering if I was so old I was misremembering the usual time delayed chapters came out or if it really was later than usual

I live around the same time-zone as Korea and I was still worried it wouldn't come out that day bc it was almost evening lol.
By the way, it came out at 11:27, 3:27 in Korea. They definitely need a break or an extension of the deadline.

Oh, do you like remake Rood better than the old version?
I actually preferred the old version and feel like the newer one has less personality and emotion in comparison. 😂 (But I guess it makes sense some would have the opposite taste)
I'll be honest, I like this Rood from the remake for some reason! I hope it stays that way, because I don't like disliking the main characters, as it makes it torture to keep reading (that happened to me with CAH5D, which became very boring in the last few episodes).
#black haze#remake#reblog#rood#comparison#Rood having such realistic and reasonable responses were a bit part of what I'd enjoyed#especially since so many other characters were extremely unhinged#but now Rood doesn't feel drastically different from the others mentally#just his willingness and dedication to do the right thing sets him apart

DW, hopefully if/when the remake catches up to the old version we will get many more cute interactions between them. >w<
This is the cutest interaction between my ship, btw. 🗿

#black haze#rood#yutiarien#reblog#shipping#you're gonna start making me ship the two too at this rate lol#especially when you draw such pretty fanart of the two#but even otherwise I def want to see more of these two and their story together#ain't no way I'd be satisfied if we don't when she looks just like you-know-who

They should have hired you instead. 💯
Since Tapas made a crappy logo, I always said I would make my own and it would be better. 🗿

Today, after five years, I made a new version of the first one I made in 2020.
2020 2025
The one I made in 2020 isn't as good, but it's still better than Tapas'. 💀💀💀

BH remake ch 36
As usual, we are missing a lot more casual character interactions in the remake.
Including this cute lil gem of the girls being girls:
They're relatable as heck.
But getting more to the point of changes to the narrative; the scene of Lapis and Rood interacting over the magic circle on the ground is entirely different.
In the old version, both Lapis and Rood are crouching down examining the circle and end up vibing with each other as they discuss complex magic theories with advanced lexicons alien to the rest of the students.
But in the new version, Lapis is confused at how strange the unfamiliar circle is muttering out loud in wonder at what kind it is, when Rood arrives and answers him.
Sucks that we no longer see Rood and Lapis vibing as magic nerds... but the change seems to indicate that Rood has far more arcane or advanced knowledge of magic circles than is commonly known to the public (to the degree that even Lapis who is older and the son of a Duke did not know about it).
In the old version they both actually start having an eager conversation discussing magic circle theories before they were interrupted by Tessiana, while in the new version Lapis seems eager to hear more about it but Rood doesn't reciprocate this energy and soon has his attention divert to the magic circle itself again (in the old ver this only happened when he took cover from Tessiana behind Lapis and he got a better look at it by chance).
I'm a bit worried for Rood's characterisation again, as these parts that gave him a bit more personality when interacting with other characters (such as being legit scared when facing Tessiana, being of the same magic circle fanboy mind as Lapis) are now rendered obsolete.
We also had a little more interaction between Rood and Yuti in the old version.
In fact, Yuti straight up gave him a whole greeting and seems to want to be acquainted with him, taking a keen interest in him herself since Tessiana has said he was "interesting."
In the new version though, Yuti only seems interested in "catching" him for Tessiana's sake while having not having much interest in him herself.
In contrast to someone like Lin who gets a few scattered moments of interaction through the series, this was the only scene we have of direct interaction between these two at all in the old version... so I am a lot more worried about how this will affect her character.
While it's more of an aesthetic difference, I also found the way the scene where Rood tells the others not to separate from him interesting.
The old version feels like we're seeing this live from the same POV as others in the group, drawing us in more.
The newer version is more dramatic being front-facing, like it's imparting to us just how drastic the situation is and that Rood is the only person here who has any hope of being able to confront it.
On a side-note I like how it also shows Tessiana protecting Yuti, foreshadowing future scenes where her free fighting ability is handicapped on account of her guarding duties.
Also gotta say... the new scene of the chamber engulfed in the dark magic also looks amazing.
I remember reading the scene in the old version and it being once of the rare times that made me strongly feel that the current art level was holding it back significantly and thinking "I'll just imagine it looks epic."
...Well, with the remake no need to imagine anymore lol XD
Makes me really glad we got a remake from scratch.
Getting back to story relevant changes... in the old version we already get Rood noticing a black water seeping in from the circle.
But this does not occur in the remake. I'm not sure if this means it got retconned or if it's meant to happen at a later date (a few other events and dialogues have also been arranged out of order... but doesn't affect the overall story since they do happen anyway).
There is a slight change to Khan's awakened design. Mostly just that in the old version his hair comes undone, but now it stays tied up.
It doesn't change anything... I love his character and wanted to point it out since I'd been looking forward to his awakening. XD
Apart from that, his power level and skills remain the same as he runs to Tessiana for help immediately after looking cool protecting the students for 5 seconds. Professor Khan I would protect you with my life.
There seems to be an omitted sequence (?) from the old version where Tessiana tells Yuti to leave with Lapis, who points out the exit is blocked by magic only for Tessiana to tell them to break it down and look pointedly at Rood (indicating she knows he can and should break it down to save the princess).
I hope it'll come up later, but if it doesn't it's probably the scene I'll feel the most loss of apart from the Rood + Lapis equal energy bonding. But at least the that was still featured albeit altered for (likely) story reasons.
But this scene did a lot more as it showed Tessiana's sense of duty and responsibility in prioritising the princess' safety as well as her selflessness in telling the others to escape with Rood while clearly intending to stay back to deal with the situation herself.
On a more subjective stand point; I also personally liked how it showed Tessiana regards Rood as an equal, and Rood (albeit awkwardly) moving forward to do as she instructed showed he did reciprocate in kind by following her advice, although he cannot show it as openly as she does on account of hiding his identity.
But the remake skips all this, and jumps straight to Khan running to Tessiana for help while the mana puppet attacks Lidusis at the same time which happens after that part. So it appears more like this was one of the removed ones.
I guess it doesn't affect the overall course of events since nothing come out of it anyway apart from a bit of comedy, but it's gonna be another scene I miss from the remake.
#black haze#remake#comparison#ch 36#bh 36#my post#entirely unrelated but I'm glad the author didn't just swap Lin with Iel in these scenes like during the target practice bullying#but again... you kinda wonder how and why Lin's here when she doesn't feel as close in this version now#but the changes this time hit Tessi and Yuti's characters instead#a bit worried about how the skipped parts are going to affect things going forward#I mean the plot's intact and all#but a lot of the characterisation isn't#and that played a big part in making us invested early on imo

I always had the idea that if she was around she'd vibe with Yuti pretty well... but her interacting with another Idun student makes a lot more sense.
(But more importantly, I am glad I am not the only one who sees the glory of the Chevel x Iel ship! 😤)
YongYong said that if Ibriel were alive, she and Iel could be close...
That's right, YongYong-nim, feed my Chevel x Iel (????) ship. 🙏🏻🗿

BH remake ch 35
Unlike the two previous chapters, this was another chapter where most of the events remain the same with some minor changes.
It seems like the bird that carries the messages to Rubymonter is still canon. XD The message contained within is also the exact same, though the hideout has changed from a blue and white domed structure to a black building.
I can actually see how the new one would work as a hideout, while I repeatedly wondered how anyone could miss the old one lol. (The new one looks like a proper abandoned house in the middle of nowhere, while the older one looked like a upper class family's vacation home... I can only hope they were absent and not killed to make room for the new residents.)
I noticed this before, but Ruby used to wear 2-3 different outfits through the course of the series; including a black dress she wore in this scene. But in the new version, she has only wears one outfit just like the others (just sometimes with her cloak).
I kinda miss seeing her lil' fashion show as a rare case where we saw a female character in a few different outfits, but I do think this change makes more sense.
The outfits the students wear for the trip have been changed up a bit. In both versions, Rood is the only one wearing a full hoodie jacket while everyone else have cloaks mostly of a similar colour to the uniform (presumably part of the uniform set). But in the old version this was more noticeable as Rood is wearing a colour that stands out more (green) while the other few wearing a different colour (Lin, Yuti, etc) are mostly brown.
However, in the new version a larger number of them are wearing different colours (eg; Yuti: Yellow, Lin: Green) and even the ones who are wearing regular cloaks still have custom accessories (such as Lidusis' cloak clasp), plus Rood's hoodie is now a beige colour so he stands out less as a "GUESS WHO THE MAIN CHARACTER COULD BE" cliche.
Guess who the main character is~
vs
No, really, guess:
In both versions, Iel is the only one wearing an oddly dark coloured cloak. But in the new version, it stands out less as less odd as we have other girls wearing coloured cloaks as well (makes sense for the girls to care a bit more about fashion, even on a field trip lol).
Also, I think the author has changed the colour of Iel's eyes now...? I think they look much nicer now. (Back when we first saw her the colour p much hurt my eyes bc of how bright they were.)
Iel approaching their group to say she wanted Rood in her team but would never consider Dio remains the same, verbatim... alas for Dio. 💔
Same goes for the parts with Yuti and Tess, but I think with more silent panels present it was clearer in the old version that Yuti showed up on her own without Tess's input after tying up Rom, while in the new version it's less so and could almost sound like Tess intended for the princess to come and is asking if she dealt with Rom properly lol. XD (Poor Tess seems even less sane in the new version, same as Rood.)
I'm glad the part where Lin takes Lidusis by the arm to join the others is there, since I was afraid another one of her scenes would be cut. But now Lin's closeness with a group no longer seems to work as well as before without the classroom scene, as we wonder why she's acting so close when they're just barely introduced this time and haven't really done anything together since (unlike in the old version where Lin accompanying them during the sparring match happened afterward which solidified her as a member of their friend group).
But for some more notable changes, there is a difference in Rood's attitude and potentially his thoughts (?) when he sees that Chevel will be coming with them.
He seems genuinely more sparkly and simple minded now (compared to the old version where that was simply the façade he showed Lidusis, while we see his real sinister demeanor slip for a sec). Lidusis has every reason to be scared now, lol.
In the old version he mentions trying to use this opportunity to find out what's going on between Lidusis and Chevel to finally finish things, while in the new version he just says he'll use the chance to deal with Chevel instead (with his dialogue here seeming to be the reverse of his dialogue in ch 16 which is where he mentions trying to find out what's going on instead). Newer version Rood seems less determined to "finish the mission" and more resolved to "deal with my friend's bully" by this point.
Among lore (?) changes is the talk about the students getting to go to the Tower. In the old version, we previously see the student discuss a rumour that they'll be going to the Tower, and Rood wonders if there's someone who can create a teleport circle of that level here to which Tessiana answers that it's being done by Heil. None of this occurs in the new version, as it was one of Lin's cut scenes.
In the new version they do discuss their upcoming field trip during lunch like the old ver, but without the Tower rumour (as it was literally brought to the table by Lin who wasn't there this time). Instead, the "Tower rumour" is verbally mentioned here, with Rood apparently hearing it for the first time now. His response is different as he instead points out that a bunch of rookie students wouldn't be likely to be let into the Tower like that.
So I think there's been a bit of narrative change that the Tower rumour was genuinely just a rumour this time (unlike the old version where it seemed like that was where they really were meant to go, based on Tessiana's response), and that the biggest difficulty in getting to the Tower is no longer appropriate teleportation but rather that getting the green light is tough for underqualified and unimportant people to obtain. I do think this change makes more sense, but now you wonder why the Tower coming up at this point needed to happen at all since the topic just got tossed away immediately, plus Helios seems really negligent not even properly checking where they are going or prepping the students with enough information beforehand (unlike the old version where the "rumour" surfaced pretty early on, and they seem more prepared and informed by time of departure, even if it's due to it being an open secret). Like... what were they all expecting was going to happen with this, lol.
Apart from that, a relatively minor sequential change is that in the old version the students were already inside the building with the teleport circle and already had a few exchanges in there before our evil professor starts enacting his evil plans with the black magic puppet. But we get that as our ending for the chapter before they go inside this time. Though I think this might be just to end the chapter on a cliff hanger.
#black haze#old bh#new bh#remake#comparison#ch 35#bh 35#my post#in the old version it felt like Heil lied to them all about getting proper permission to go to the Tower#which explained both student and teacher reactions as it was contrary to all their established expectations#in the new version... idk what's going on lol#are all Helios trips like this? No one knows where they're going or what they'll be doing??#it's a wonder anyone would want to go on any field trip when the results are such a blind box#at least a tour of the Tower seems like a reasonable exercise for rookie students even if the access permission was questionable#istg Lin's missing scenes are affecting the story at this point#you really don't know what someone did for you until they're not around to do it anymore fr
