In the now infamous dog video for example, 8 dogs were forced in a very stressful, scary situation and filmed for entertainment. Another piece will let you witness reptiles and insects killing each other in a box, until nothing is left. . 👉 2- Perpetuates the stigma that Chinese people are cruel, especially toward animals, and that they don’t value life. . 👉 3- Perpetuates stereotypes against pit bull-type dogs, ignoring years of advocacy and dog science. The artist herself said about her video piece that pit bulls are “naturally pugnacious” and therefore putting them in that violent context isn’t cruelty. . 👉 4- When hit by an angry public demanding these pieces be removed from the show, #Guggenheim released a predictable statement that justifies those pieces as reflections on “globalization and the complex nature of the world we share”. . . ❗️❗️ Let’s keep the pressure on! . 💪→ Sign the petition (link is in my bio - we are just over 20K). . 💪→ Repost this, add the Guggenheim’s location, and maybe add the wonderful institutions that financed this exhibition, probably without knowing about these pieces. But I finally saw the dog video the @Guggenheim is presenting as “art” in its upcoming exhibition. My heart is shattered. I have posted the link in my story for those of you who want to be witnesses for these dogs, and a few stills in the slides above (if it's not working, link is http://bit.ly/2y0Ca0y). . These poor 8 souls. And through the darkness, the horror of this video, one thing hurts even deeper: these dogs aren’t even trying to fight. There is just sheer fear and pain. Eight dogs stunned, not understanding what they are supposed to do, as the floor just slips from under their paws, forcing them to run faster and faster toward each other. Passed the first shock, they go eerily quiet. Then a few barks, more like calls for help and again the same question: “why?”. A couple of dog handlers trying to encourage the dogs from the sidelines. A crowd of press and art critics there to witness “great art” being made. I knew this was going to be bad, and I felt horrified that yet again pit bulls were going to be shown in such a negative light. What pains me more is that, yet again, pit bulls showed they do not want to be fighters. They do not want to be monsters. They do as they are told, they do as they are forced to, and all the while asking us: “Why?”. I am more determined now to get this video shut down as well as all the animal cruelty pieces Guggenheim is trying to feed us as “art”. I am editing myself right now, trust me… There are many things I want to be typing. But seeing these poor souls betrayed, abused while the art world applauds, fueled a stronger fire in my soul. None of us are perfect, and ALL of us have issues. We all battle very similar addictions and obstacles that are hard for someone who does not live our lifestyle to understand. But we need to interact more and not treat music like a competition. We are all one. All part of a very elite group of individuals who creates art in a way that not everyone can do. And music is a universal language that we all share and communicate thru. We are the voices that heal. Remember that! So please see the value and the magic in what makes you special and unique to us and the world, and why we need you to stay with us. Continue to flourish us with your gifts and songs that we all sing. But PLEASE stop taking your lives. Your families, children and friends all love you.
