Actually, I thought about this for some time. Despite his aspirations and some braveness, Lattum can be terribly afraid of depth. And therefore he does not understand how Marre even goes out to sea, knowing that there are tens of meters of dark water under him and God knows what else lives there. But Marre doesn’t really understand what’s the big deal if you’re standing on a solid ship and just don’t go overboard.
#the neverhood#endless sea au#fanart#art#Do I continue to draw on something beyond character references? Wow.

Helvetti is a very fast and active neverhoodian who decided that the most useful thing for him to do would be to carry notes, light things, and just things that the others couldn't get or deliver themselves. Someday, Neverhood might grow to a size where there will be a lot more guys like Vetti. Then it will be called a post.
As was said, this guy is very fast. Perhaps the fastest of the hoodians. And despite the fact that he can be called a rather sociable and generally kind guy, he has some cockiness in his character, which, however, never takes on an evil note. Rather, a desire to bring others to the same wavelength with him, at least temporarily. The bandages on his elbows and knees were not on him at birth, but at some point they became an integral part of him - all because speed and a certain frivolity on the way to his goal often lead to skinned elbows and knees.
Many find Helvetti too active, flickering and often somewhat irritating. He annoys Stellket the most, although, ironically, he relies on him the most when it is necessary to receive or send something to other inhabitants of the island, and there is no desire to contact them. He also annoys Terrek a little, but for other reasons - being his frequent patient, who, moreover, has a tendency to run away from treatment. Although Terrek is more worried about Vetti than angry with him. Vetti calms down only in company of Marre and Lattum, who, to some extent, can teach him something new or just help, but he can really be on the same wavelength with Malleus. Even without understanding what he does most of the time, but still trying to understand at least a little.

Terrek is the local healer and herbalist, as most medicine on Neverhood can only be made from herbs.
Terrek is a fairly calm and friendly Hoodian, who, however, is not always kind to the thoughtless and irresponsible actions of his comrades. And although nothing serious happens on the island, he still treats his chosen work as a great responsibility.
In addition to wanting to understand how to make the locals recover faster, Ter is also interested in the plants that grow on the island. Mostly because some of them may have useful properties that are not related to use in cooking. For the same reason, he is interested in certain parts of the sea creatures, although this, of course, makes things a little more complicated for him. Most often, he gets new samples for his garden either from the distant islands that Marre visits, or when expanding their own island.
Although this guy has acquired a bit of a reputation as a killjoy, he has good relations with many on the island. His best relationship is probably with Marre, which is not surprising considering how much mutual help they provide for each other. On the other hand, he has big problems communicating with Malleus and Lattum. With the first, because his attempts at mechanics often lead to minor injuries (and it was once proven that injuries can be not minor), and with the latter… well, Terrek doesn't particularly like the idea of picking up objects and using them specifically to cause injury. Even if he understands the intention on Lat's part. On the other hand, the latter's training process still resulted in unpleasant bruises, sprains, etc..

Stellket, the first (in all senses) and only stargazer and cartographer. He lives on the edge of town, on a hill, in a tower built by Hoborg specifically for observing the stars. Mostly, he tries to calculate the movement of the stars, make a sky map and is generally more interested in the things abow than in the affairs under his tower. However, he did help his fellow-hoodians a couple of times with pure enthusiasm - when he made a detailed map of the island (even if Hoborg had detailed notes before the creation of Neverhood) and when, during the first expedition, he sketched the areas of the nearest islets, calculating more or less the exact distance from them to Neverhood. However, neverhoodian met subsequent expeditions to the sea with much less enthusiasm… for some reasons. Stell is quite smart, has remarkable concentration and a cold mind. Alas, on the other hand, he is a rather arrogant guy, looking down on most of the other inhabitants of the island. This is especially true for Marre, with whom the relationship did not work out from the very beginning, and after the first expedition everything became even worse. However, to the surprise of many, he has a good relationship with Malleus - all because he sees in him someone who is also ready to move horizons with the help of his extraordinary mind, but is simply not understood by society (even if this view is slightly at odds with reality). And Mal also does a lot of useful things for Stellket.

Good day to you. Can I ask about some characters? There wasn't much information about Glenn, Maleeh and Alto, but I was really wondering if there was anything you'd like to tell about them? Anything, really. For example, What was Glenn able to do with Neverhood's limitations? Do his ideas usually end up as blueprints for the least feasible inventions? And I don't know what exactly to ask about Alto and Maleeh - there isn't much lore about them as far as I remember... but it would be interesting to know more!
Hiii welcome back to another episode of recalling what ive created several years ago! ::D anyway, you're right and there's a severe lack of info in my writings abt OCs other than Shuffle because of his crucial role in Crowns and Revelations story. I'll try to recover something i thought over though, so here goes.
Glenn is the more well-thought character out of all others i guess, mostly because of his also important role in CaR (yeah most of my OCs get development because they end up in a story and it progresses around them and forces them to do something). I mentioned that he's some sort of local Da Vinci and this also meant that a fair lot of his ingenious stuff ends up on paper as either blueprints or written ideas, all that. However he doesn't give up and whenever it's possible, he works on a way to simplify the constructions so that they may be implemented with Neverhood's resources - that being the spaceship he built that Klogg and Klaymen used for space travel. It's a very simple version built with scrap essentially, and still it persisted throughout theit whole journey there and back.
One funny thing about Glenn is that he likes to invent stuff but doesn't want to be a creator in a sense of Hoborg's status. It was mentioned in CaR summary that Hoborg talked to Glenn about passing the crown to him in case of need, and Glenn declined saying that he doesn't want to be a creator, rather a builder. The thing is, it mostly takes Hoborg to think of something he wants to create and to have the materials needed, but for Glenn the joy of building is essential. That's also what Alto thinks about the process - this is what they were both born with, a passion for constructing. However Alto is more of a handyman kind of guy, he's among the strongest Hoodians and it helps him greatly while assisting Glenn. In return, Glenn tries to teach Alto some of the basics he uses for designing and building his creations, and they've developed their own sort of language that others don't really understand. Like, a nerd and his loyal assistant, in their own world of inventing.
Maleeh is probably closest of all Hoodians to my own personality and i think he's my window into that klay world. As mentioned, he's a stark contrast to Shuffle but he also is his best and probably only true friend - Shuffle doesn't talk much to others on personal matters. Maleeh is a pretty friendly one but not overly so; he's polite and lighthearted towards everyone at first sight and may change his behavior as he sees more of the newly met person. However one of his greatest flaws is inability to be idle, to do nothing or to think about nothing. Whereas Shuffle puts all this into something he find useful, Maleeh thinks less of the work and more of the leisure but when there's none, he's practically dying of boredom. His mind suffers from idleness and that's why he's happy to go wreck any sort of (peaceful) havok just so that his mind will be occupied. It's something he shared with Shuffle and tried to overcome to a degree, those efforts aren't futile but the process requires patience. Maleeh isn't a fool but also not a genius, and also is kinda naive about certain things people around him do; he was the first one to be attacked by Klogg on the Pin Island as he brought the man food, believing him to be somewhat docile and have no bad intentions. He was also very reluctant to believe that Shuffle indeed did the prohibited and put on the crown, even though it was the last-ditch effort to help Hoborg anyhow; it came into a violent conflict with his perception of Shuffle and he spent quite some time coming to terms with this.
Also worth mentioning that in the worst case, if none of the four space travelers hadn't returned from the trip to Klay Mountain, Maleeh would've been the first to vouch to help Glenn build another spaceship and venture into space even blindly - just to try and do something about this situation. He hates just idly waiting and often wants to take action, but most of the time there's someone who can handle the situation better, so he just stays on the sidelines so to speak. In a worst case scenario, he'd be the first in line for the task. Glenn on the other hand wouldn't venture out into space even for testing out his own inventions - he's terribly afraid of getting lost out there on his own, and at the same time he doesn't want to put anyone else's life at risk by coming together to assist him (Alto, for example). So Glenn is more than happy to let others test his machines, if only that's out of free will. Good thing Klogg didn't know that Glenn doesn't test his inventions himself.

Marre is a sailor and fisherman who often goes out to sea, sometimes for very long periods of time. One of many, but also one of the best. Mar knows the sea very well, and also loves it very much, therefore read it even without extensive knowledge of the map of the night sky. In his opinion, the most important thing is to know when sea is too rough, so it's time to reach the shore or safe waters. He is the only one who fishes at night, and so Malleus installed floodlights on his boat to dispel the darkness, and maybe God knows what else lives in that darkness. Marre is a simple guy who can be relied upon, and who is not particularly talkative, but very hard-working. Despite this, he enjoys good company, maybe because time spent at sea at night allows a neverhoodian to remember that he still needs to communicate with his own kind. He has a fairly neutral relationship with most of the Neverhood, but he is on very good terms with Lattum. Perhaps because their temperaments are somewhat similar. The same cannot be said for his interactions with Stellket, who sees him as a simple and narrow-minded algae gatherer, while he, in turn, sees the stargazer as an arrogant jerk.

Another person from the company. Malleus is a local walking disaster, an inventor and just a adorable boy. He learned the basics from Willie, but the learning of the skill was not particularly smooth, because Ottoborg’s creation failed to correct in his student what had once failed his own creator.
Of course, this overly sociable guy sincerely wants to help others and make their world a better place, but his zeal and a certain carelessness often turns into haste and bringing an idea to life before this very idea has been thoroughly thought through. Because of this, one of neverhoodians had already suffered, and therefore he slightly reduced his zeal. His biggest achievement so far is the design of the double-engine boats that Willie helped refine.
Mal has good relationships with almost the entire group of nevers I showed, but the two closest to him are Lattum and, oddly enough, Stellket. The friendship with Lat began because of Malleus’s failure with the mechanism that injured Lat, and contrary to the Lattum’s attitude towards this whole technological topic, but they became friends with Stel precisely because the stargazer really appreciates this topic. He also appreciates the guy’s intelligence with his zeal to expand the horizons of the known, even if he notes that he is holding back by his difficulties with planning.

Yeeeeeee, I finished humanizing Ottoborg! He turned out to be surprisingly pleasant to draw, even if there was one total redraw in the process. I think this is the last humanization of the Brothers

Well, lets go Lattum is a relatively unsociable resident of Neverhood. Not inclined towards fun and company, but some residents are still able to persuade him to have some entertainment. He always watches those around him and walks around the island every day, looking for signs that something is wrong. At other times, he simply practices using the pole (he is not allowed to carry sharp things. Yet). Hoborg is a little worried that something is wrong with Lattum. In particular, that his personal anxiety over Klogg's betrayal influenced creation of the neverhoodian's seed. Lat himself explains his behavior by saying that when he appeared, he saw that everything was fine, but the island was surrounded by darkness. This means that someday good things will endand therefore there must be someone who will help the others at such a moment, just like Klayman did. One antenna(?) on his head is shorter than the other due to the fact that during the demonstration of one of the inventions by Malleus, part of the mechanism was torn out of place and only miraculously did not hit the self-proclaimed guard in the face. Lattum is on good terms with Marre (his closest friend), and also, oddly enough, with Malleus, even despite the incident. Not that he trusts Mal's mechanical things and ideas, though. (Humanization of Lattum is smiling just to show that he is capable of this)

When I feel bad, I like to draw Rain World. And now, at the same time, I decided to finally think about how each of the slugcats could differ from each other. This is the sketch I ended up with:

Um, hi? I would like to ask again about Neverhood AU. In particular about Hoborg. Most of the time his eyes are covered by long and thick bangs, how does he see? Does he know Neverhood so well or is this a feature of his eyes? Also, about ending of Crowns and Revelations - I could be wrong, but can Hoborg now live without a crown? Does the crown now resonate with Klogg or does it divide its power between them? Is Hoborg still capable of doing his creator stuff?
Hi again! Ohhh let me remember, I guess it's like Hoborg canonically doesn't have humanoid eyes thus he doesn't need them to see, and so humanized Hoborg doesn't exactly need his eyes to be uncovered. Not sure if he knows his land that well, even though i had an askblog post about how he spent his eternal slumber strolling around Neverhood; i think he just... sees everything despite his hairstyle, there's no physical reason as to why. For a long time I was even unsure if he has eyes and if he can see at all, but at some point i did make a sketch where his bangs are moved to the side and yeah the man has a pretty much working set of eyes, it's just that there's no difference for him whether they are facing the world or not.
As for CaR, the ending is pretty unstable as it's sort of an open scenario, but I can say for sure that 1) Hoborg lives without a crown 2) Klogg is its owner now. It's all because he was the one to privatize it after Hoborg's hybernation and subsequent death, like he was promised by the man himself, and later Klogg used Klay to restore his creator to previous state, thus kinda becoming his creator as well... it's a weird yin yang situation. So Hoborg, being created from Klay, is no longer a creature of previous flesh or whatever Quater used to create him, and he has no connection with his former Crown from then on. He retains all memories of his life but doesn't have the same scratching and calling feeling from the crown, at least until he decides to put it on again for some reason but i doubt he would. For the final question - my thoughts abt the crown were that only its current wearer can use whatever possible to create life and anything else around, so yeah Hoborg can no longer do that. He can surely use materials to build or create stuff like we humans do or like Glenn (another OC) built his inventions, but it takes a lot more time and effort than just... well, creating something because you want it to appear. Klogg on the other hand got the whole potential of the crown after that incident but as of that time he was, well, quite unsure what to do after that. The search for Shuffle and Hoborg took a toll on him an he decided to dwell on his ideas for a while, staying in the Neverhood. So i'm unsure what exactly he'd do with his newly found crown powers, surely some mischief but a while after the events of CaR.

Hey, comrades, do you like small AUs that no one cares about? Well, too bad, because I have one for you.(Sorry for my English) AU – Endless Sea. Almost the same Neverhood, but very much reduced in scale - with the universe it turned into one large planet, covered mostly by a dark ocean. The sun is shining above it, but somewhat strange and weak in terms of illumination, its heating is normal.
The stories of the brothers remained practically unchanged, adjusted for the sea and the scale (so the lands of Ottoborg could not fall apart from the lack of gravity, but, say, fall apart due to the first strong storm, because they were completely artificial and were on the surface of the water).
Neverhood Island is larger in scale, with a wilder section that may slowly grow over time due to Hoborg's actions.
Regarding the characters, the story of Neverhud also remains similar, except that Klogg could have been carried away by the sea to some other lands, where others could meet him.
So, a lot of time has passed since the events of the game, the hoodians are gradually beginning to settle into the new world. Even, say, a second generation has appeared, increasingly understanding the world and its laws. What was discovered? For example, that the sea is connected with the night sky much more strongly than it seems, so it would be worth starting to satisfy growing curiosity and try to find new lands. After all, even Hoborg knows very little.
Speaking of Hoborg, he soon stopped being a king, since his person was not suited to rule. Too soft and non-conflicting, he didn’t even want it, and therefore left it to his creatures to choose from, instead trying to teach them what he knew and could do - craft and art. Perhaps since then, artisans will get used to marking themselves with a patch of two dark stripes on the right shoulder.
About the four dudes shown in the picture.
The characters in the art are Lattum, Malleus, Marre and Stellket, all names may change in the future if there is one. Lattum is the self-proclaimed guardian of the island. Malleus is an inventor and a walking disaster. Marre is a fisherman who controls a boat (as below). Stellket is an astrologer, looking down on everyone from above.

And another brother, this time the youngest. Even though Arven is quite minimalistic, I still liked to play around with his fin (fins in my case). It may not be pure humanization, but it's still pretty close, ha.
