Do you believe in Love?
I’ve always believed in Love.
Dreamed about it in my childhood and felt it towards my family and friends.
But that’s not the Love everyone talks about, right?
So, what is Love?
Is it a feeling ever so slightly that you could even miss it if you don’t look for it?
Or is it a spark so bright that even the blindest could see it?
Then why do so little people notice when someone truly loves them?
Why is it that only those far away are aware of it and the closer you are the less you are?
Love for me is like a foreign language I don’t understand but am trying to learn.
Giving my all, in the clumsy way I can, to express love to the ones I see worthy of it.
But the older I get the more I hesitate.
Do they even want my Love?
Do they have someone that already gives them all the Love they need?
Am I capable of receiving Love as well?
Is the Love portrayed in all those movies, songs and TV shows even real?
“Oh, yes! Of course, it is” people tell me.
“You just haven’t met the right one” they keep saying.
So, I keep searching
And hoping
And looking
And thinking
And losing sight of what Love is.
Is it moving in with someone I am capable of dealing with every day?
Is it being able to imagine a future with that one person in it?
Is it the fantasy of doing sexual things with that person?
Is it truly passionate?
Is it not real?
Or am I just broken?

O3
Pairings: Hoseok x Reader; slight coworker!Namjoon x Reader
Genre: Fluff; Angst
Word Count: 13.9k+
Warnings: mentions of panic attacks
Summary: Fifty years ago, your government decided that, due to the high rate of people suffering from loneliness, the O3-project shall be introduced to your country. The goal of this project was to reduce the years people spent trying and failing to find their perfect partner and making it possible for them to sit back and relax while they find it for them instead. You are one of the youngest Implementers of the One and Only Office yet and you love your job more and more everyday. But a new case has you doubting everything you do because nothing seems to add up. Why are you so attracted to the person you’re supposed to connect with their perfect partner and what does your coworker Namjoon have to do with all of this?
[a/n: This story is the one I’ve put the most effort in so far thinking carefully of how I want the story to develop and choosing to go with a slow burn love story this time. I hope you enjoy the story and thanks to the lovely @yeontanismypresident for beta reading again and for leaving such a sweet message at the end with her opinion <3 Now here are some side informations you might need for the story:
Finder = Job; runs data on people through the system and finds the couples meant for each other; they create the data files needed by the Implementers to do their job
Implementer = Job; gets in contact with the couples and manages meetings between them to make them get together
One = one of the couple; this is what you call the partner of the couple in front of you or yourself in this context
Only = one of the couple; this is what you call the most of the time not present partner of the couple especially when talking about him/her/it
Have fun reading!]
Masterlist
“Fifty years ago, our government decided that, due to the high rate of people suffering from loneliness, the O3-project shall be introduced to our country. The goal of this project was to reduce the years people spent trying and failing to find their perfect partner and making it possible for them to sit back and relax while we find it for them instead. Our department developed a system, with the help of Professor Kim, that runs through all available data on every single living person in this country and matches them together with an accuracy of 100% to this day. We never had any mistakes in our work, which is remarkable. Our systems get updated regularly, and we’ve grown from a four-people-team to a team made of over 5.000 people. But I don’t want to get into the detail of all our achievements which I’ve seen with my own eyes over all these years – there were many just saying – and let you all get to the buffet and celebrate our 50 years anniversary. A toast to our great department! To One and Only Office!”
“To One and Only Office,” everyone replied, including you, and raised their glasses to your boss. When the office got introduced, he was only 25 years old, fresh out of university, and still wet behind his ears just like you were now. Fifty years went by, and now he was 75 years old and almost done working his shift of this life. He still had a youthful glint in his eyes whenever he had one of his crazy new inventions in mind.
A few minutes later, you saw him coming up to you.
“How is my youngest Implementer?” he asked you with a friendly grin. You just started to grin back at him.
“She’s gonna miss you badly. Do you really have to go?” you questioned with a sad look on your face. He just laughed heartily and rubbed your shoulders comfortingly.
“You’re going to survive without me. You’re smarter than me anyways, or why do you think I forced you into university? Someone has to come up with new ideas when I’m gone. Besides, I’ve worked my fair share already. Let me have some peace and quiet before I go for good.” Winking at you, he let out another laugh.
“I’m never gonna live up to that crazy mind of yours. I might as well quit right here and now.”
“And who’s gonna save my ass when I forget where I left my data files again?” Another voice joined into your conversations. You felt a hand on your hip and pressed your lips together in a thin line.
“How about you’d stop putting them down in random places, Namjoon?” you asked while gently removing his hand from your hip and taking a small step away from him. Turning to face both of them instead of just your old boss, you took a sip of your drink and rolled with your eyes smiling.
“I’m not doing it on purpose! It just happens.” He complained in a pouty voice. You sighed, laughing a little while excusing yourself from the conversation to finally get some of the good food they ordered. You thanked your boss silently when he engaged Namjoon in another conversation about his recent ideas so that he couldn’t follow you. You didn’t hate Namjoon, but sometimes his attitude towards you was just too much for you. Today was one of the days where you just couldn’t handle his attempts to flirt with you.
The next morning you checked your emails as per usual. Your work inbox included some data files of people you had to get in contact with, as well as a notification that an appointment was today at 3PM. You went over to your private inbox since there was nothing unusual in your work inbox, and you still had some time until work started. You put your kettle on the stove to make yourself a tea and worked your way through your private emails. Everything was normal until one of the emails caught your eye.
“Huh? That’s from work, but why did they send that to my private email?” confused but ensured that it’s just a mistake since they have both of your email addresses you opened the mail.
What’s up with this?
Your eyebrows furrowed even more, showing a deep crease in between them. Instead of the usual text, the email contained a random variation of numbers, letters, and punctuation characters. You rubbed your eyes for a second just to make sure that it wasn’t your eyesight acting up.
“This is a first… I better tell the IT department about that.” Making yourself some notes in your work calendar for the day, you finished your breakfast and made your way to the office.
After telling the IT department your concerns with the email you got, they assured you they’d look into it and keep you updated. Taking and giving one call after the other, you sat at your desk for hours, managing appointments for the next few weeks and going through the data the Finders gave you. Noticing the same bug on one of the data files as the one on the email you got this morning, you took the file and went over to the Finder department. Going through rows and rows of desks with computers and paper piles on them high enough to suffocate you if they would ever tip over, you searched for the Finder of this data file. You went to the department head Kim Seokjin to ask him about it first.
“Oh, that’s Namjoon’s case. He should be at his desk right now. But good that you found that. Would be a ton of work if this happened more often. We can print it out again for you. Might be our first little bug in the system right there.” Upon hearing the Finder’s name you sigh deeply, not sure if you were up to talk with him today, but you pulled yourself together immediately and thanked him for the help. You found Namjoons desk quickly, him being taller than anyone else in this office. He seemed focused on his work, typing away, and checking the papers to his left and right over and over. You’ve never seen him work at his desk before, and it almost shocked you how serious he seemed.
“Namjoon?” you asked very cautiously, feeling embarrassed all of a sudden for disturbing him at work.
“One second. I just need to finish these so that I can read them into the system and run the analysis.” He said, not even looking up from his work. It took a few more minutes before he tapped on his keyboard one last time and turned to you, satisfied with his work. Noticing now that it was you who called him made his whole attitude change a little.
“Y/N. What gives me the honor? Are you finally accepting my offer of lunch together?” You rolled your eyes, smiling a little, and put one hand on your hips, shifting your weight on one foot.
“The computer already said that you and I don’t match at all. You should know that better than everyone else since you ran the analysis on it. What was it again? 5% compatibility?”
“Okay, okay, I got it. You don’t have to sugarcoat your hatred for me. How can I help you?” He replied, acting deeply hurt with a very sarcastic undertone. Although his grin didn’t falter a bit the whole time, he turned a little more serious at the end.
“I’m here because of the data file on Jung Hoseok. I don’t know what happened with this, but I can barely read any information except for his Only and his address.”
Namjoon took the file out of your hand, and within one second, his grin turned into a frown. “What the hell… I remember exactly that I wrote everything down in the system. Why is it all gibberish now?”
“I don’t know, but I was hoping you could print it out for me directly from the program? Maybe the internal emailing has a bug.”
“Sure, just one second.” He turned towards his computer, typing away on the keyboard, and just a few seconds later, you could already hear the printer running. Namjoon got up and took the paper out of his printer. Checking it over one more time, his eyebrows furrowed again. “Strange…”
“What’s strange?” you asked, immediately going to look at the paper in his hand.
“The analysis is missing.” He was right. The whole paragraph on their compatibility was missing, but at least now it had all information on the persons themselves.
“That is strange. But this will be enough to get in contact with him and his Only for now. Can you tell Seokjin about this? I need to get ready for an appointment and also call this fellow.” You asked Namjoon.
“Only if you eat lunch with me together tomorrow. Just as friends, of course.” He grinned, which made you laugh a little.
“I have a lunch appointment tomorrow. Sorry, but how about Friday?” he let out a breathy laugh, sighing a little at the end.
“Sure. Friday then.”
“Okay. And just so you know, I don’t hate you.” A smile formed on his lips, although he tried to hide it, revealing his dimples. You gave him a playful shove and said your goodbye without even noticing the way he watched you walk away.
“Hello, here is One and Only Office Implementer Y/N Y/L/N. Am I speaking with Jung Hoseok?” Driving home in your car after the afternoon appointment, you called him on speaker. There was a short pause, followed by a loud crash on the other end of the call and a hurried reply.
“Yes! Yes, hey. I’m Jung Hoseok.” His voice sounded friendly and intoxicatingly happy. It had a soothing undertone to it.
“Mr. Jung, we found your Only, and I would like to make an appointment to talk about the next steps with you in person. When would be the right time for you?”
“Wow. Um- this is amazing. Sorry, I’m a little bit overwhelmed. I’ve been waiting for this moment since I was a little boy.” You couldn’t help the smile spreading on your face. His reaction was too cute, making you giggle a little. You pulled yourself together immediately again.
What the hell was that? Something that unprofessional never happened to me. I just giggled at a client! How embarrassing.
“Sorry, um- I didn’t mean to laugh. Your reaction was just too cute-“ WHAT THE HELL AM I SAYING?!
You heard a hearty laugh at the other end of the phone.
“It’s alright. I’ll make time whenever you are available.” He replied, still laughing a little. Hearing his laugh made you blush without even noticing and laugh a little again too.
“How about tomorrow evening? 6PM?”
“Okay, it’s a date.” He replied cheerfully. Out of nowhere, your heart started beating like crazy. Making your goodbye as quickly as possible, you ended the call and stopped driving at the side of the road for a moment catching your breath.
What’s wrong with my heart? Is this a panic attack? It doesn’t feel like usual.
You tried all sorts of breathing exercises until your heart stopped beating so fast. Only when your heartbeat was back to normal, you started driving again.
Back home, you changed into your workout gear, taking your bag, and going to your weekly dance practice. You weren’t the best dancer, but you weren’t bad either. Nothing you could make money with, but doing it made you happy for sure. You loved your job, so you didn’t have a real eagerness to become a fulltime dancer anyways. On top of this was your best friend in the same team as you. You greeted her with a warm hug and sat down on the ground next to her starting to stretch together. After exchanging some updates about your week, she started showing you videos of this dancer she found on the internet just recently.
“He’s seriously amazing. His technique and precision on the music is out of this world. He’s my new idol, I swear.” She talked excitedly about him, pointing out the details of every choreography.
“Wow, he’s really good. What’s his name?”
“He goes by J-Hope, but no one knows his real name. He’s been going to a lot of competitions with his team and solo. He’s really lowkey on his social media, never giving any hints about his personal information.” Your friend stated sulkily.
“You already stalked his socials?” You scoffed, laughing a little.
“You know me.” She grinned back at you, getting up shortly after because practice started.
“Okay we’re gonna work on positions for the next dance performance today. Let’s see. We’re gonna make a triangle formation for the beginning. Y/N, you’ll come to the front.” Your dance coach instructed you, and you started walking to the front, hearing some whispered words along the way.
“Why is she always at the front?” – “I know, she’s not even that good.” – “Yeah.” – “Maybe she has a thing with the teacher?”
Swallowing hard, you tried to ignore their whispered comments, only focusing on what the coach has to say. You wouldn’t give them the favor of letting your true feelings show. The truth was that you always doubted your skills, and if it wasn’t for your best friend being here, you wouldn’t have the courage to come to practice in the first place.
Half an hour of just going through the positions and formations for the show passed until you practiced with music for the first time. Your best friend was dancing right next to you in the formation when she suddenly crash-landed on the floor, screaming and wincing in pain. The music was cut off immediately, and one of your teammates crouched next to your friend, asking her if she was alright.
“Y/N shoved her! I saw it with my own eyes. She wouldn’t even let her best friend be with her in the spotlight.” One of the girls from before suddenly exclaimed. You wanted to rush to your best friend, but the sudden accusations that now started coming from all the other girls caught you off-guard. Your whole body was starting to shake, eyes never leaving your friend who was clutching her leg with an expression twisted with pain. The coach went to your friend immediately, lifting her up and declaring practice was over for today and that he would bring her to the hospital. You were frozen in place, still shocked by everything that happened. Tears stung in your eyes, making you close them tightly. You started to move with closed eyes, shoving the girls that were still accusing you and now cornering you against the mirrored wall, to the side to take your bag and run out the door.
Throwing your bag on the passenger seat, you wasted no time to drive home, getting all sorts of flashbacks from high school. Your heart started racing, and your breath got more and more flat, forcing you to stop the car at the side of a road and get out to catch some fresh air. Going to the passenger side, you pulled the door open violently, not caring if anything broke, and searched for your medication in the glove compartment. Your hands were shaking and sweating like crazy, eyes slowly starting to get hazy, and the all too familiar feeling of dizziness setting in when you finally found your medicine. You quickly swallowed one of the pills and sat down on the grass next to your car until the medication set in. Sighing deeply, you let yourself fall back onto the grass, staring at the night sky where a few more stars glistened than in the center of the city where you lived.
The next day you received a call from your best friend. She wouldn’t be able to attend dance practice for a while because of her leg, and as far as she knew at that moment, she might even have to skip the performance. Your heart sank at that. Even though you knew you didn’t push her, you still felt guilty for not helping her immediately.
“I’m sorry how everything went yesterday. I didn’t know what to do, and then everyone started blaming me, and I don’t know.”
“Hey, Y/N. Don’t go blaming yourself as those idiots did. I know it wasn’t your fault. No one pushed me, I actually tripped over something although I don’t know what exactly. I’m sorry I couldn’t say anything at that time. Did you struggle a lot?” your best friend asked and proved to you again just how well she knew you.
“I’m okay. I just worry about you.” You answered although the aftermath of last night was clearly visible on your face. Your dark under-eye circles would even make a panda jealous and would need a lot of makeup to cover up later.
“Y/N…” your insightful friend knew you weren’t okay, but all you cared about was for her to get better soon.
“I have to go to work now. Please get well soon. Bye!” You hung up the phone before she could probe how you were really doing.
The day went by quickly with a lot of calls and appointments to do, and before you even realized it, your last appointment for the day was right around the corner. Walking up to the café he wanted to meet at, you kept watch for anyone who looked like he was waiting for someone. Since the data files were so messed up the picture that you would usually use to identify the client was barely visible. Walking around the café, you finally found a man sitting alone with his back to you. His style and overall appearance seemed like it could fit the age written on your papers so you made your way over to him.
“Mr. Jung Hoseok?” you asked politely, trying to look at his face while he was turning around with a sudden jump.
“Oh my god, you almost gave me a heart attack!” he exclaimed, downright scared, but then his whole expression changed when his eyes met yours. It felt like your eyes were drawn to his, not being able to stop staring into them. Hearing a loud noise, you both jolted out of your starring match and into reality.
“I’m sorry. Um- I-I’m Y/N Y/L/N, from the One and Only Office. Nice to meet you in person, Mr. Jung.” You held out your hand to greet him, and when he took your hand your whole body felt like electricity went through it, making you pull your hand away in shock.
“Sorry, I guess I must’ve become staticky somehow.” He answered and started grinning from ear to ear. “Hoseok is fine by the way. Can I call you Y/N?” You just nodded, feeling the heat in your cheeks.
What’s wrong with me? Am I coming down with something? I feel so hot.
“Let’s get started, shall we?” You suggested, and took a seat across from him at the square table you were at.
“So, there has been some kind of problem with our system. Your analysis is not on here right now, but since the computer put your names together in the first place, I can tell you for sure that this is your Only.” You explained, pushing the details of his Only to him. He looked at the data intently, reading through everything while his brows knitted together in confusion. You took the opportunity to really look at all his features for the first time. His face had very gentle features, but his eyes seemed like they could change from kind to intimidating in the split of a second. Something about him seemed so very familiar to you, but you just couldn’t pinpoint what it was. It almost drove you into madness.
While reading through the interests and character of his Only his head tilted to the side almost seeming confused and unsure. He put down the papers, folding his hands together and intertwining his fingers. His elbows were resting on the table while his eyes were still looking at the data.
“This is really strange. I always thought… Well, don’t get me wrong I trust you completely but, I always thought my Only would have more in common with me.” Confusion was now not only visible on his face but also on yours.
“Do you mean you have nothing in common with that person?”
“Well not nothing but… it’s just very minor things that we have in common.”
“Hm, maybe it’s one of those opposites attract situations?” you suggested in hope to be right. With every passing minute you spend working on Jung Hoseok’s case it gets weirder and weirder.
“Hm, yea. Maybe you’re right.” Smiling a little again, his eyes met yours again, but there was something in them that bothered you. Disappointment? Sadness?
“I’m sorry if I’m crossing boundaries here but, you seem a little displeased by what I showed you, Hoseok.” Your eyes filled with worry while he started looking away slightly embarrassed.
“I guess I just expected more. Maybe also just someone that was more…” his gaze went swiftly over all of your features. “My type.”
You felt your cheeks heating up again.
Did he just check me out? Nah, I must be imagining things.
Clearing your throat, you took the data files back and stored them in your back.
“I’ll tell you as soon as I make an appointment to meet with your Only. Until then, feel free to contact me if you have any further questions regarding the O3 program. Since your Only lives in Busan, we’ll be driving you down there and make sure you have a safe trip and a place to stay there.” You explained to him getting ready to leave. When you got up, he also got up abruptly almost knocking over his chair.
“Will you be the one driving with me?” he asked you with his eyes full of solicitation. He seemed nervous because of the first meeting you assumed.
“It’s not the custom for an Implementer to accompany the One to their Only…” you tried to talk yourself out of it, but the way he was looking at you like a sad puppy made you crumble immediately.
“But… of course, I could ask if they could make an exception and let me go with you. If that makes you more comfortable.” His lips started forming a heart-shaped smile even spreading to his eyes.
“It would make me much more comfortable. I’m looking forward to seeing you again soon.” He simply answered, holding his hand out for a last handshake with you. You took his hand, and again there was this feeling of electricity going through your body, but this time he didn’t let you pull away, holding your hand a little longer than expected. You parted ways shortly after that, but it felt different from your usual appointments. Something was different about this, and you felt like it wasn’t just all the bugs in the system.
The next day, you called Hoseok’s Only to make an appointment with her. Highly confused after that conversation, but still coming out of it with an appointment to make them meet for the first time, you hung up the call.
This gets weirder and weirder.
After thinking for what felt like a few hours about it, you started making your way over to the Finder Department again – more specifically Namjoon’s desk. This time he already noticed your approach from afar.
“My most favorite Implementer. Are you longing for meeting me that much lately? I’ve been seeing you almost every day. Not that I’m complaining, I really love it.” He grinned his charming dimpled grin from ear to ear at you. You leaned against his desk, half sitting on it while looking into the distance still thinking. His expression started changing when you didn’t reply anything to him, eyebrows now knitted with concern.
“You okay?” The joking sound had left his voice completely when he saw how serious you were.
“Yeah. I am. It’s just… you remember that case I got? The Jung Hoseok one?” he nodded hesitatingly. “Well, I met with Hoseok and he was… highly confused because his Only sounded like it wouldn’t match at all.”
“But we had people before who were complete opposites and they worked out just fine.” Namjoon started reasoning, eyes still soft and filled with concern completely fixated on your figure.
“Yeah, I told him that too. But something about this just doesn’t feel right. Like all those bugs that only appeared in this case and then his Only also seemed completely disappointed when I told her who her partner is. This is making me doubt this case more and more so I just have to ask you.” You turned your head to look Namjoon right into the eyes.
“Was there anything suspicious happening while you were working on this case? Did really nothing go wrong or did a server crash and mix up the people? Systems aren’t always perfect so I gotta ask.”
“I’m sorry, Y/N, but I can’t say I have seen anything weird with it while working on it…” His eyes went back to the screen midway through the sentence making you look down at your shoes.
“Okay, thanks anyways.” Getting up you pushed yourself off his desk a little. “See you Friday at lunch.” A smile that you knew wasn’t showing in your eyes formed on your lips and with a last small wave you went back to your desk for the rest of the day.
It had been two weeks since you last saw Hoseok, and you couldn’t feel more nervous. You didn’t even understand why you were feeling like that in the first place. He was just a client after all. But still, you took two hours to put together an outfit and spent an extra 30 minutes to do your hair too which you usually wouldn’t.
You drove to the place he wanted you to pick him up from, with the car you would both drive to Busan in. Your luggage was packed away carefully so that there was still enough space for his stuff in the back of the car, and although you weren’t the biggest fan of driving long distances you were still excited for it.
Parking the car, you held in front of a tall building with a whole front made of windows. You double checked the address before you made your way in going straight for the front desk.
“Good Morning, my name is Y/N Y/L/N, and I’m from One and Only Office. I’m here to meet with Jung Hoseok.” You explained politely.
“Let me see.” The receptionist moved her finger down a long list before she stopped at one line. “Ah, here it is. Y/N Y/L/N. Mr. Jung is still at practice in room 1.03. It’s on the first floor to your left, the third door. He allowed me to tell you to just go in when you arrive.”
“Thank you.” You smiled at her before you started moving towards the room. When you stood right in front of the room you could hear music coming from the inside. It sounded as if you were underwater only the bass rang out to you until you opened up the door. What you saw inside made your jaw drop immediately. Hoseok was dancing with four other guys in absolute synchronicity and finally it hit you where you saw him before. You heard your best friends voice loud and clear in your head even with the music hitting your ears.
“He goes by J-Hope, but no one knows his real name. He’s been going to a lot of competitions with his team and solo. He’s really lowkey on his social media, never giving any hints about his personal information.”
He is J-Hope… Jung Hoseok… J-Hope… Jung equals J and Hoseok equals Hope. Wow, I could’ve guessed that.
The sudden quiet when the music turned off made you jolt out of your thoughts.
“Y/N!” You heard an excited voice call out to you. A sense of joy spread throughout your body immediately, making you smile.
“Nice to see you again, Hoseok. Are you ready for the trip?”
“Oh, that’s Y/N? Wow we heard a lot about – uff” the sentence by one of the younger looking boys was caught off by the one next to him hitting him with his elbow in the stomach. You looked at them questioningly, but still smiling.
“He meant we heard a lot about Hoseok’s Only and your great work with that.” Another one with very broad shoulders answered for him.
“Ah. I don’t do half of the work that gets put in a case.” You explained quickly with a little laugh. Hearing the door open behind you again you stepped aside to let the person get in. A boy that looked like he was in the same age span as the one that got hit met your eye, and started smiling a square smile at you.
“Oh! You must be Hoseok’s Only! Wow, you’re really exactly his type. Do you dance too? That would be awesome you guys could do couple choreographies!”
“I-I do but I’m not-“
“You do?? That’s so cool! Did you hear that Hoseok hyung? She dances, too! Why do you have such a strange look on your face?”
“Taehyung, she’s not his Only.” The one with the broad shoulders explained to Taehyung who was still standing in front of you, and now looking at you pouting.
“You sure?” He asked sulkily, and it made your heart almost explode when you started thinking of the possibility of you being Hoseok’s Only.
“I think we should really get going!” Hoseok suddenly declared when Taehyung opened his mouth to continue voicing all of his doubts. Being pushed out of the room in a rush, you only had a second to say goodbye before you and Hoseok were alone in the hallway.
“Shall I take one of the bags?” You offered up, but he quickly took his backpack and luggage before you could.
“Don’t worry. I’m strong.” He answered, smirking and winking at you, making you blush. You looked away immediately, and picked up a faster pace walking in front of him now so he wouldn’t notice your expression.
“Okay, then let’s get going. We’ve got a long drive ahead of us.”
You were driving in silence sitting next to each other, not sure whether the two of you should start up a conversation or not. Hoseok was sitting in the passenger’s seat, wearing a simple white oversized shirt tucked into ripped jeans he switched into after practice. His gaze was set on the scenery out his window with one arm leaning on the door below it. You sneaked a few glances at him while driving, feeling your eyes drawn to him whenever you stopped looking.
Eyes on the road, Y/N. Don’t want any accidents on the job. You can stare at him lat- OMG no you can’t stare at him at all. You’re bringing him to his Only and THAT’S IT!
Lecturing yourself in your head nonstop, you jumped a little when the music suddenly turned on making you drive in a slight curve for a second.
“Sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you. I just thought some music would be nice.” Hoseok apologized to you.
“It’s okay… Just warn me next time.” You replied, laughing a little. You started relaxing a little while he selected the music on his phone that he connected with the car speakers. Tapping on the steering wheel, you started humming and singing to all the songs you knew, which were a lot on his playlist, and every song you didn’t know you loved nonetheless.
“I’m surprised that you know this band.” You heard Hoseoks voice over the music.
“They are amazing. I actually went to their concert last year and it was the best concert I’ve been to so far.” You got excited all over again just talking about the concert and seeing the memories replay in your head.
“How cool, I was there too! Did you go to the one in Seoul?” Nodding and humming as a yes, you kept your eyes on the road for safety. “Can’t believe I didn’t see you there.”
“Well, there were thousands of people so the chance that we’ve crossed paths is very small. And even if we crossed paths, we could’ve still just ignored each other.” You answered trying to suppress the increasing heartbeat of yours.
“I don’t think I could’ve ignored you.” His voice was just loud enough for you to hear. It was almost just a mumble as if he wasn’t sure whether or not he should say it. Your eyes glanced at him. He was looking out the side window, chin leaning on his hand, and slightly looking like he was mad about something. Opening your mouth to ask what was wrong, your thought got interrupted by a beeping sound of your car. You looked down at the fuel gage noticing that it needed a refill so you took a turn at the next sign for a gas station. Done with paying for the refill, you headed back out to the car where Hoseok was waiting for you when someone approached you quickly.
“Excuse me, I’m sorry if this is weird but you kind of captured my attention and I just thought maybe I could give it a shot and just ask for your number?” the man in front of you didn’t look bad, and his approach didn’t offend you in the slightest, but you just didn’t feel like giving your number out.
“I’m sorry, I don’t give out my number.” You replied politely. “But I admire your courage.” With that you started walking towards your car again, but you couldn’t even take two steps before he was in front of you again.
“Why not? I promise it won’t be a waste of your time.”
“I’m really sorry.” You replied again still with a polite smile.
“Aw, come on. I can offer you a lot.” He grabbed your arm when you started walking past him again.
“Please let go of me.” You tried to push his hand off you, but he wouldn’t budge.
“I’m just asking for a chance.”
“And she’s asking you to let her go.” You suddenly heard another voice behind you. Turning your head to the side you saw Hoseok now next to you. In one swift movement, he removed the hand of the man from your arm, and took your hand in his to pull you with him.
“Let’s go.” He simply said while walking to the car. Your eyes were fixated on his face, but the only thing you could make out from this angle was his tense jaw. Opening the passenger door, he pushed you gently inside before making his way to the driver door.
“Keys.” Hoseok looked at you while holding out his hand.
“Hoseok, is everything okay?”
“I should be asking you that. Why didn’t you call out to me?” He looked into your eyes clearly mad.
“He was just a little bit persistent… He didn’t hurt me or anything and I’m sure he-“
“You’re sure he what? Would’ve let you go? I know those types of guys. He wouldn’t have given up so easily if I wouldn’t have gone to get you.”
“It wasn’t that big of a deal, Hoseok. This happens to every women once in a while and I-“
“But you’re not every woman!” he suddenly yelled at you making you jump and look at him in surprise but, it just took you one moment to get yourself back together.
“What am I then, huh?” you asked back provokingly.
“You’re- You’re a person I don’t want to get hurt.” Every bit of anger that you had left in your body suddenly vanished with this sentence from him. You were speechless, and looked into his eyes which weren’t angry anymore as well. A loud honking sound brought you both back to the real world where a few cars were already waiting for you to make space at the gas station.
“W-We should get going…” you said, still a little bit shy while he nodded. He lifted one hand out of the car as an apology to the people behind you while he started driving back on the road.
… Wait a minute
“Why are you driving now anyways?” you asked him a few minutes later, and he just started laughing suddenly.
“You just noticed??”
A few hours later ,you arrived at your hotel in Busan. Your office really didn’t do things by half-measures. The room – or better called a suite – you two lived in had two bedrooms, a small living room, a kitchen area to eat and make late night snacks, and a huge bathroom.
“Wow, I should ask if I can go along more often.” You simply stated while going inside the suite. Hoseok dropped his bags, mouth hanging wide open. Suddenly he ran to one of the bedrooms just to jump on the bed with arms and legs spread widely like a starfish. Your eyes followed him with the sudden movement making you laugh immediately.
“This is great!” He exclaimed, sitting himself up to look at you again. “What’s next on our plan? Dinner? Karaoke Bar? Or maybe we could go dancing?”
“Those all sound great but we actually have an appointment to meet with your Only in an hour. Just enough time to get ready after that long drive.” You explained watching his expression change from excited to sulky.
I’ve never seen a client be so unhappy to meet his Only.
A smile started spreading on his face again, but it didn’t seem as excited as before.
“Okay, let’s get ready.” he said, before jumping up and getting his stuff to put on something nice. You did the same in the other bedroom, changing into your usual work outfit – with just a little more care than usual.
Ding – Dong –
The doorbell sound rang through your ears for a moment. Hoseok was standing next to you, wearing a nice button-down shirt and black trousers. He was looking way too good for your taste which somehow made you feel uneasy about the meeting. You were confused by your own feelings, but at least you were able to convince him to fully button up his shirt instead of leaving the first few buttons open – which had him looking even better before.
With a squeak the door opened up and behind stood a young lady, maybe five or so years younger than you. She had short black hair and wore a headband to keep it behind her ears.
“Hello, you must be Miss Y/L/N, I’m Lee Jisu.” the girl introduced herself shaking your hand and then looking at Hoseok.
“Nice to meet you in person, Miss Lee. If I may introduce you two: this is Jung Hoseok. Your partner. Hoseok, this is Lee Jisu, your Only.” You introduced them both, and with a smile on their face they greeted each other properly but something was different from the other people you brought together.
There is no visible spark… Maybe I’ve been watching too many romance movies but usually when I meet the couple later, they’re so head over heels for each other. Maybe it needs some time?
“Shall we go inside?” Jisu asked, getting your attention back.
“Yea, let’s go.” Hoseok replied, taking the first steps inside. You stood outside, knowing that your part was done for today, and wanting to head back to the hotel. Turning around, you were surprised to suddenly feel a hand on your wrist.
“Where are you going?” When you looked up to the person holding you it was Hoseok’s face meeting you with an almost panicked expression. You looked at him in confusion.
“I’m going back to the hotel. You two need to get to know each other, and I’ll be in the way if I stay. I only got the instructions to bring you here and observe the development of the next few days.” Explaining the situation how you were taught at the office, you noticed his struggle to come up with an answer. In the end, he just let go of your wrist without another word.
“Okay, I’ll see you later tonight then.” With these words he turned around and went inside. You didn’t move a muscle until the door was shut feeling like you’re about to lose something dear to you. Taking all the willpower you got, you forced yourself to turn away and go back to the hotel.
You were exhausted. Your whole body was screaming at you being too tired to do anything anymore after getting ready for bed. All fours spread widely on the bed – mimicking Hoseok’s position when he jumped on the bed earlier – you stared at the ceiling. You looked to the wall where a big clock was hung.
“AARRGGHH How is it past midnight already?? Why can’t I sleep???” You took a pillow to scream into while kicking the bed underneath you.
“Y/N are you okay?!” His panicked voice made you sit up, immediately hiding your legs – you were wearing a pair of really short pajama shorts – with the pillow you used to scream into just now.
“Hoseok, you’re back?” Your face was bright red while you tried playing cool in front of him.
“Yea, and I thought I heard you screaming so I came to look if everything was okay…” He looked a little more relaxed now that he knew that you were okay, but judging from his messy hair and slightly unbuttoned shirt you thought he must’ve been in the middle of changing before running to you.
“I’m okay. I just had troubles falling asleep and got frustrated.” You explained bluntly honest to your own surprise. It was just too easy for you to open up to him.
“Oh, hang on a second. I’ll be right back.” Hoseok replied after thinking for a second. After he left your room you took the time to hide your lower body under the blanket leaning yourself on the headboard. After a few minutes had passed, he came back wearing jogger pants and a sweater as pjs and carrying two mugs.
“Here you go.” He said while holding one of the mugs out to you. “I didn’t know if you are lactose intolerant so I used the lactose free milk. This always helps me sleep. My mum gave me the recipe.” His smile was proud and contagious making you smile a little too.
“Thank you.” You replied, really meaning it while he sat down at the edge of the bed still facing you. “Are you close to your mum?”
“Very much. I just wish I had more time to spend with her. Work is keeping me busy. I’m gonna make it up to her though. Once I saved up enough money, I’m gonna buy her and my dad a nice little restaurant where she can show everyone what an amazing cook she is. You know her Kimbap is the best I’ve ever eaten, you need to try-“ his eyes looked up at you smiling heartwarming at him because he looked so happy talking about his mum. He cleared his throat looking at you apologetically.
“Sorry for rambling on like that.” He simply said and lifted his mug to drink some of the milk.
“No worries really! I actually enjoyed it. I’m close to my family too so I can understand.” You replied, giving him a small smile that he returned. The atmosphere changed between the two you, making you feel a little restless and strangely hot.
“So, uh, how was the date?” He almost choked on his warm milk when you asked him, making you lean forward and pat his back with a worried look while he started coughing.
“I- … It was okay. She’s nice. Very polite. Called me Mr. Jung the whole time.” He laughed a little. “I don’t know about this…”
“Maybe you guys need more time together. You’ll meet again tomorrow anyways so I’m just gonna leave you guys to it again.”
Why am I so happy that it went badly? This is my job, and if it goes badly it would mean that we made a mistake for the first time. That’s a huge deal.
He nodded, looking at the wall in front of him.
“Say, do you have an Only yet?” Now it was your turn to almost choke on the milk, but at least you didn’t have to cough.
“No, I don’t. Everyone always jokes I’m gonna stay a One forever.” A smile was tugging on his lips.
“And what do you think about that?” he asked, referring to the “One forever” part.
“Well, I was starting to believe it too.” You laughed a little. “And I thought I’d be fine with that.”
“Why the past tense?” His eyes looked straight into yours, no joking whatsoever visible anymore. It made you forget all the punchlines you’d usually say in those situations and just stare into his eyes until you couldn’t handle it anymore and looked away.
“I don’t know. I guess something changed.” He hummed accepting that answer for now, but you could see the smirk on his lips.
“So, after lunch we’re going to meet with Jisu again and you two will have another date to get to know each other better. Everything clear so far?” Hoseok nodded while drinking the last bit of his Sprite before he was done with his meal. After you paid for the lunch with the company card you both made your way over to Lee Jisu’s home where you were greeted with a very unsettling sight.
“A police car…” Hoseok stated, looking at Jisu’s mother talking to a police officer with worry in her face.
“Did something happen yesterday?” you asked Hoseok, but he just shook his head looking just as worried and confused as you. You parked the car and left it together to ask what was going on.
“She has short straight black hair and was wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans. I- I think she took the white converse shoes because I can’t find them anywhere but- Oh, Miss Y/L/N. I’m so sorry I forgot to call you.” Jisus mother greeted you immediately when she saw you interrupting her explanation to the officer.
“Call me? I’m sorry but may I ask what happened Mrs. Lee?” you asked with confusion.
“Jisu ran away.” She sighed. “She’s nowhere to be found and I think it’s because I forced her to do the Only meeting and I’m-“ tears were starting to run down her face, and it looked like it wasn’t the first time today. You immediately searched for a tissue to give to her, but Hoseok was even faster than you holding it out for her.
“Thank you, Hoseok.” Jisus mother said, taking the tissue.
They already seem so close… you tried to suppress the frown building on your face.
“She ran away? What do you mean by forcing her to meet her Only?”
“Well, you see. Before you called to tell her that you found her Only, she was convinced that Seok Jo – the boy living in the village nearby – was her Only. She was waiting for the day that the office confirmed it for her so the two of them could finally get married. I always told her that it might not be him but she-“ Mrs. Lee started sobbing again, interrupting herself.
She already has someone she loves that much? No wonder she was so cold towards me during the call and so distant to Hoseok.
Your eyes searched for Hoseok reading his expression that was fixated on Jisu’s mother.
“Do you have any clue where she could be? Friends or family nearby?” You asked, looking at Mrs. Lee again. She just shook her head.
“Seok Jo doesn’t answer his phone and I know he might be sleeping because he worked late yesterday, but I don’t want to leave the house in case she comes back. My husband already started driving to our family to look for her there. But…”
We need to do something. We can’t just wait and see what happens.
“We can go and look for her at Seok Jo’s place.” Hoseok suddenly said, making your eyes draw to him in surprise, but your expression changed quickly to thankfulness. Looking back at Mrs. Lee you nodded at her.
“We just need his address and we’ll handle it.” You added, and Mrs. Lee hugged you both before she went inside to get the address.
You were restless. This case was getting so complicated, and you just felt like there was something horribly wrong with it. Your eyes drifted to Hoseok who was driving with his eyes forward looking all tense himself.
There must’ve been a mistake at the office. It can’t be anything else. I just don’t know what else could cause such a mess. This all just doesn’t make sense! Should I tell him my doubts? What will he think of me once I tell him? He will hate me for sure. But if I don’t tell him and it really was a mistake the office made; he’ll hate me for not telling him my doubts. What should I do? What-
“You okay?” Hoseok suddenly asked with his eyes on you for a second. You didn’t even notice how long you stared at him, eyes full of worry.
“Actually, no.” your eyes darted away dancing around the area. “I’m not okay. I feel like I’m getting sick to be honest.” Heartbeat increasing with every second, you felt a panic attack growing inside of you. Hands sweaty, breathing shallow, and your mind all hazy you lost yourself in all the doubts and self-destroying thoughts in your mind.
“Y/N?” You could feel Hoseok’s hand on yours, his voice full of worry, but it seemed all so far away like you were underwater.
“Please stop the car!” Was the only thing you were able to get out of your mouth, and he did exactly that, immediately stopping on a country road in the middle of two fields. You fidgeted with the door of the car struggling to get it open in your state since it wasn’t like your own car. You heard a loud bang, and a second later, Hoseok was on your side of the car opening the door and getting you out. He sat you down on the grass next to the road and crouched right in front of you.
“Y/N. Y/N, look at me.” He told you with a calm voice, still holding your hand with one hand, and using the other to direct your head so you looked at him. “Copy me. Breath in. Hold your breath. Good. 3… 2… 1… breath out. Now repeat with me.”
You copied his breathing and listened to every instruction he gave you. Slowly, your heartbeat was decreasing again, palms becoming dry, and head coming back out of its hazy state.
“You’re doing great. Just a few more times.” You just now noticed that his hand holding onto yours was checking your pulse while doing the exercise. “Okay. You’re okay. I’m here.” This was the moment you broke. Your arms swung around his neck, hugging him tightly, and he hugged you back, immediately dropping his knees to the ground to not fall over with you. His hand started stroking the back of your head comfortingly while you started sobbing silently.
You let go of him after a while, wiping away your tears which he helped you with by gently rubbing a tissue under your eyes. His eyes were full of warmth and comfort when you looked at them, which had you laughing a little, still affected by the panic attack you just had though.
“Don’t look at me like I’m a poor lost puppy you just found.” You joked a little, shoving against his shoulder gently. You felt exhausted from the panic attack, but not as bad as usual when you had to take the meds to get it away.
“Oh, you’re not?” He grinned, making you hit him against his chest a few times. “Ouch, ouch, ouch, sorry I take it back! I surrender!” He declared with his hands held high. Once you smiled at him and declared peace, he got up and held out his hands for you.
“Come on. We should talk to Seok Jo. And don’t worry, we’re going to find Jisu. You’ll be alright and back at your office in no time. So, just trust me. We’ll find my Only.” He smiled comfortingly while pulling you up on your legs.
“Yea, uhm well you see that’s exactly it. I think-“ Your sentence was interrupted by a loud honk making you both look in the direction you came from. A large tractor was standing there waiting for you to get driving since he couldn’t get past you. You both apologized to him and got in the car before anythingelse could be said.
“So… do you get these panic attacks often?” he asked carefully, trying to not touch a sensitive topic. You laughed a little.
“Smooth. But yea I do get them sometimes.”
“How come? If I may ask.”
“It’s okay. I’ve been struggling with social anxiety for a while now. It started in high school because of a whole lot of ugly bullying – don’t want to get into detail with that right now – but now I also get affected by stress. If I feel overwhelmed or socially pressured, I get them. It’s really annoying and frustrating but I can’t change it.”
“Socially pressured? How so?” he asked in the most careful and sensitive voice he could.
“Well, for example last time at dance practice. My best friend fell and hurt herself and everyone said I pushed her – which I didn’t. They were angry because I got the front position in our first formation in the choreography. And I just couldn’t handle all the blaming so I ran out and yea…”
“That sounds really mean. Why would they do that? If I would’ve been there with you, I would’ve told them off for good! They would never even dare to do that again to you!” Hoseok got angrier and angrier, explaining how he would’ve dealt with them if he would’ve been there which made you laugh at some point.
I’ve never told this to anyone except for very close family and friends. It’s way too easy to talk to Hoseok. I feel so at ease with him.
The door swung open after an eternity of ringing the bell.
“Mrs. Song, if it’s because of the apple tree I was going to cut it later toda- Who are you?” A very sleepy looking young man stood in front of you two, eyes closed when he opened the door and still dressed in pjs and a dressing gown.
“Sorry that we woke you up. Are you Seok Jo?” You asked politely, and the man in front of you nodded still suspicious. “You see, I’m Y/N Y/L/N from the O3 office. This is Jung Hoseok. He is listed as the Only of Miss Lee Jisu.”
This made the attitude of the guy in front of you change completely. Before you could even react, he had Hoseok grabbed at his collar, even lifting him up from the ground a little.
“So, you are the asshole that tries to steal away my Jisu? Let me tell you this. I WON’T let some townie like you just walk in here and take what belongs to me! Jisu is MY fiancé and I won’t accept this stupid agreement made by some company!” he yelled at Hoseok who just held onto the wrists of Seok Jo to keep himself in control somehow. You stepped in between them, quickly pushing Seok Jo away gently which he complied to letting go of Hoseok in the process.
“Please, Mr. Seok Jo! We’re not here because of the O3 agreement. We came here to find Jisu.” You explained quickly which again made him change his attitude.
“Find Jisu? What do you mean by that?”
“She ran away. Her mother said that she forced her into meeting with Hoseok – I mean – Mr. Jung and it seems like she is not pleased by the idea of being with her Only too much. We don’t want to force her into anything she doesn’t want. We’re not monsters, we just want people to be happy with each other. So, can you help us find her? I think something went terribly wrong here, and we need to fix this.” You could feel Hoseok’s piercing glance at you when you said the last sentence.
“O-Of course. Let me just get my shoes and keys and I’ll be right with you.” Seok Jo said rushed while stumbling back inside to put on his shoes, hitting himself on a shoe cabinet cursing in the process.
“You know.” Hoseok suddenly started speaking. “They really fit together.”
You looked at him trying to figure out what he was thinking while he said that, but since you didn’t get a big impression of Jisu you decided to trust his judgement and throw away your doubts.
A few hours of driving to every place Seok Jo thought Jisu could be passed, and to be honest, the whole situation was looking rather bleak. You took a short break to grab something to eat, stopping at one of the few convenience stores nearby.
“Where could she be..?” You mumbled while taking a bite from your sandwich.
“Is there really no other place you guys liked to go? If I was in her shoes, I would want to go somewhere only my love knows. A place with a big meaning to us.” Hoseok said bluntly while looking at his reflection in the window of the convenience store. Hearing a silent thud next to you, your eyes went to Seok Jo who just let his sandwich slide through his fingers.
“I think I know where she is.” He suddenly said, and you immediately grabbed your keys taking the sandwich with you to finish on the way instead.
“Then let’s go! It’s already getting really dark.” You declared, and the two of them just nodded and jogged out to the car. It was an hour-long drive to a far-off part of the beach in Busan. You had to leave the village where they lived and drive through the whole town before you found it. Without Seok Jo with you, you would’ve never found the way there. You parked the car and searched in the trunk for a few emergency flashlights. You gave each of them one and took one for yourself too.
“Okay, I’m not sure in which direction she could be so I’m going to walk along this side and you guys take the other one. If any of us finds her we call immediately, okay?” Seok Jo explained turning on his flashlight to search for Jisu at this pitch-black beach. You both nodded before parting ways with Seok Jo. You were grateful that Hoseok was staying with you since you didn’t like the dark at all. Although you couldn’t deny that the stars out here were really stunning.
“Jisu! Jisu are you here! Please answer if you hear us!” you called out every few steps just as Hoseok did too. You were searching for an hour already when it suddenly started pouring down.
“Shit! Let’s go find something to take cover.” Hoseok called out to you.
You started running to try and find some space free from rain when you found a small wooden cabin standing open at the back of the beach. It was just a storage space for the life guards but it didn’t seem like it was used often. You ran inside to get out of the rain already completely wet. Groaning in frustration and desperation, you leaned yourself on an old wooden broken desk that looked like it stood in an office at some point.
“This is hopeless!” you called out. “We’re never gonna find her. Especially not in a city we barely know.”
“Calm down, Y/N. It’s going to be fine. We’re going to find her and-“
“And what? Make you and her be together? Or make Seok Jo and her be accepted by her mother? Both seem impossible to me at the moment and do you know what that means? It means that I failed. My Office failed for the first time and this will kill our reputation. How are we going to explain that? This is our ruin!”
“It won’t be your ruin! It’s just one case that was wrong. ONE of how many?” Hoseok asked you, smiling a little while holding onto your shoulders gently. You let yourself slide down the desk until you were sitting on the floor, arms around your legs and back against the desk. He sat down beside you, sliding one arm around your shoulder comfortingly.
“4.376.938….” you mumbled quietly.
“See, it won’t ruin the office. And you can find the mistake and repair it so this won’t be happening again.” Hoseok was stroking your arm with his hand, and you just nodded at him.
“Yes, I’m just so sorry you have to go through all this trouble. And that Jisu is somewhere out there just because we made a mistake, in this rain, alone at that! I just- ugh” you tried hiding your face in your hands, but he wouldn’t let you, making you face him instead.
“Hey, it’s not your fault. Don’t go blaming yourself for this. And I actually like this trouble. Well, as long as I’m in trouble with you.” Your eyes softened just as his when he said that.
I don’t know anyone I would like to be in trouble with more than him.
And there it was. The moment you knew was going to happen as soon as your eyes met his for the first time. The moment you’ve been trying to avoid at all cost. He was leaning towards you, and within a mere second his lips were on yours, gently and feeling like it lasted only a few seconds. You both savored these few seconds like they were the only ones you ever had together. Opening your eyes slowly at the same time, your eyes met again. His hand wandered into your hair wanting to pull you in for another kiss when you suddenly heard a noise from the back of the cabin. Both of you turned your head towards it when you saw a figure opening the door of a room behind you. Grabbing your flashlight quickly you pointed it in the direction.
“Who’s there??” Hoseok asked, trying to seem intimidating if it was someone dangerous. But it wasn’t anyone like that.
“Jisu?” you asked quickly getting up and running over to her.
“Miss Y/L/N.” Jisu looked at you surprised. She was limping a little holding onto the doorframe and reaching out to you when you came near. You immediately held onto her to keep her steady.
“What happened to your leg? Come on, sit down.” You helped her over to the desk together with Hoseok who lifted her up on it to sit. While he checked on her leg you took out your phone ready to call Seok Jo.
“How did you find me?” Jisu asked while wincing when Hoseok found the spot that hurt.
“Seok Jo showed us. He searched with us all day to find you.” Hoseok explained while you called Seok Jo.
“Seok Jo? Is he here too?” Jisus eyes were glistening with hope and worry at the same time when she heard his name.
“He’s on his way.” You replied to her smiling after you hung up the call. “God, I’m so glad that we found you.” A hand spread on your shoulder squeezing it comfortingly.
“I am too.” Hoseok said standing to your left behind you. Jisu looked at you both with a look you couldn’t quite understand before she started smiling a little.
She seems happier than I thought about this situation. I thought she would try to escape from us again.
Seok Jo came running over to the cabin as soon as you told him that you found her. With his pjs and dressing gown completely soaked he stormed in the cabin. When he saw Jisu he immediately went to her and hugged her tightly. Tears were forming in his eyes while he continued to lecture her to never do that again.
“I just didn’t know what to do. Mr. Jung and I just don’t fit and I know that he felt that way just like I did. The only one I love is you. I’m really sorry, Miss Y/L/N, but Seok Jo is my Only no matter what everyone else wants to tell me. I’m convinced of that!” Jisu stated, trying her best to be brave and make her standpoint clear.
“Don’t worry, Jisu. I’ve already told Hoseok that I think something went wrong in the office. I’m going to go back and investigate the matter before telling you what really happened. I’m convinced too now that you and Hoseok just aren’t partners. I mean, I’ve been in this business for quite a while and when I look at you and Seok Jo I see the same as when my clients meet usually. So, how about we go back to your mother and explain the whole situation to her? I’m sure she’s still awake.” You explained, and could visibly see them both relax and exchange looks in between.
“Oh god, my mother! She will kill me.” Jisu said suddenly, with her face full of worry. You all just had to laugh at that, trying to convince her that her mother will just be happy having her back home. After this, you made your way back to the car once the rain wasn’t too heavy anymore. Seok Jo was carrying his fiancé all the way like a princess which made you realize just how strong he must be from all the farm work he was doing. The two of them talked quietly with each other the whole way, walking in front of you since you didn’t know the way back to the car anymore. Hoseok was walking right next to you and at some point his hand found yours holding onto it softly. Your heart started beating faster, and again, it was like electricity was running through your whole body. You looked at him even though you could barely make out the silhouette of his face in the darkness.
No, this isn’t right. Even if he might not be Jisu’s Only, he will be someone else’s at some point. I can’t just toss all of my principles out of the window. I don’t want to go back to failed relationships anymore. As long as the computer won’t spit out who my Only is, I’ll be alone. Once I’m back at the office I’ll fix his case, and will have to make him meet up with his real Only. I can’t handle this.
Pulling your hand away softly, you took a small step to the side to bring some space in-between you. You held onto your hand in front of your chest while picking up the pace back to the car. Seok Jo and Jisu sat on the back seat, leaning onto each other, sleeping soundly. You looked back, smiling a little while putting a blanket on top of them. Hoseok was driving you guys back through the night of Busan, looking at you every now and then. He seemed like he had something on the tip of his tongue that he was dying to talk about, but something held him back. You tried to avoid his gaze as much as possible, but you felt his stare on you every time.
Once you arrived at Jisu’s home, her mother was so happy to have her back she even forgot to be angry about it. Both of them kept apologizing to each other, starting to take the blame for everything. You felt terrible for everything that happened, and stepped up to clear up the matter at hand. After you explained the whole thing again to Jisus mother, just like you did to them, she was angry for a short time, but quickly gave into Jisu’s and Seok Jo’s request to not blame you because it wasn’t your fault, but the systems. After a short discussion on how to proceed further, you and Hoseok finally made your way back to the hotel.
Both of you quietly went into your rooms, and you felt the awkward and tense atmosphere in the whole suite. After you both took a hot bath to warm yourselves up, you went out of your room to get something to drink. You noticed music playing in the living room and curiosity got the best of you. Hoseok was standing at the window with the back to you holding a glass of water in his hand just like you did. Instead of his usual hip hop playlist he was listening to a playlist filled with almost sad sounding music. The song playing that moment – Charlie Puths “Dangerously” – was on one of your playlists too because you related to the lyrics too much. You thought it was ironically fitting to your current situation as well.
“Hoseok?” He flinched a little at the sound of your voice over the music. Turning around, he walked up to you with a smile on his lips that wasn’t quite going to his eyes anymore. He put down your glass and his at the side before taking your hand playfully to make you dance with him.
“May I have this dance?” He asked, although you could see the worry in his eyes. You should’ve rejected him, but you wanted to do it so badly. Swaying with him while one song changed to another felt like heaven to you. It felt so right to be here with him, and you couldn’t help but laugh when he led you into crazy looking spins. He made you lean far back while supporting your lower back just to pull you back. Your forehead almost touched his when you came back up, both of you laughing a little. That was the moment your little dream bubble burst again. His hand went into your hair wanting to pull you in gently, but you pulled away.
“Please, don’t.” you said with your eyes down. A sigh left his mouth before he let go of you completely. He seemed angry, and you felt a sting in your heart when your eyes found his figure again.
“What did I do wrong? Did I do something, or say something that made you hate me all of a sudden? I thought… I thought you liked it too. I thought you liked me.” Hoseok asked you with desperation in his eyes that made your heart break.
“I do! I did. I mean… “ You sighed deeply. “Hoseok, I’m your Implementer. I’m a worker for the office that is supposed to find your perfect partner, and I’m not your perfect partner.”
“But what if you are? You said the system made a mistake so what if you are my real Only?” He took a small step closer to you again.
“That’s impossible. If I was your Only I would’ve gotten a notification all system problems aside. My name would’ve popped up somewhere and someone would’ve noticed.”
“Okay, then so what if you’re not?” He took your hands. “I want to be together with you and no one else!”
“But the computer-“
“To hell with the computer!” He suddenly screamed, making you pull your hands away from him and step back. “I-I’m sorry I didn’t want to raise my voice like that, but not everything is decided with logic, Y/N. In some moments, you just have to listen to your heart no matter how cheesy that may sound. My gut just tells me that you’re the one for me.” He took one of your hands again, but you pulled it away.
“You don’t understand this. This system is here to keep us from always trying and failing to find love. Even if we like each other now maybe in a few years we’ll hate each other, and I just can’t go through this anymore. It’s too painful!” You took a few steps back while talking.
“Y/N, please, I won’t hurt you. I could never hate you!”
“Everyone says that!”
“But I’m not everyone!”
“Who are you then, huh?!”
“I’m Jung Hoseok, and I’ve never fallen for anyone as hard as I did for you, and I know you did too!! Can you please stop denying it?!” You both were yelling at each other now.
“You can’t force me!! Just leave me alone!!!” You screamed at him, completely overwhelmed with this situation because of course he was right. You’ve never loved someone as much as you loved him, but you’ve been trusting the system and only the system for so many years that you couldn’t bring yourself to just trust your gut. You turned around and ran into your room. You just needed to get away from this situation, or else your feelings would overpower you.
“Y/N! Please, I’m sorry for yelling!” He was standing on the other side of your door. Tears started streaming down your face while you slid down the door until you sat on the ground.
“Just go away, please…” You sobbed and within seconds it was quiet. You heard his footsteps walk away from you, and you didn’t hear them come near you again for the whole night.
The next day you drove back to Seoul by yourself. Hoseok left without you in the morning, only leaving behind a small note and a bracelet that looked like the ones they sold at the village market you went by a few days earlier. You sighed, putting on the bracelet anyways since it was the only way to decrease the yearning for him in your heart a little.
A few days passed by, and you were back in your daily life working until late at night. Not having heard from Hoseok, nor having the courage to call him, you walked around like a heartbroken zombie. Even Namjoon noticed something was wrong with you when you went out for lunch together, but he didn’t ask too many questions about it which made you seek his company a lot more lately.
You were still investigating in the Jisu and Hoseok case, and everyone was informed by now that something went wrong there. Suddenly, a week after your return, your phone started ringing.
“Hey, Y/N, it’s SeokJin, could you come to the Finder department in half an hour? It’s about the Jung Hoseok case.” You heard SeokJin’s voice at the other end of the line. Your heartbeat increased immediately when you heard Hoseok’s name making you play with your bracelet.
“Have you found out what happened??” You asked while getting up immediately.
“Yes. We want to talk to you in person about this matter though. Can you come over then?”
“Sure!” You hung up before he could say anything more, and ignored the request to come in half an hour, too restless to wait even another second for the results. You rushed to the Finders department just to find the door of SeokJin’s office opened by a small gap. But you didn’t even need that gap to hear SeokJin yelling angrily at someone.
“What were you thinking?? Hacking yourself into the system just to exchange the names on the paper. Have you gone insane?! Do you know how much damage you could’ve done with this?? What is your damn reason?!”
“I don’t know… When I saw her name there I just- I didn’t think anymore. I blacked out. I didn’t want her to have an Only already…” You knew this voice, but you couldn’t believe what you heard there. You heard SeokJin sigh deeply, and when he spoke this time his voice was quieter.
“Look. Everyone knows how you feel about Y/N, but that doesn’t justify your actions. You exchanged her name for Lee Jisu who was actually partnered with her fiancé of two years. You could’ve destroyed four lives with your selfish actions, and I want you to apologize to everyone and make it right. Am I making myself clear? Just because you’re the grandson of our system developer I can’t go easy on you. This will have consequences even if you confessed yourself.” After hearing all this, your feet moved by itself taking you inside the room. SeokJin’s shocked eyes landed on you immediately followed by the culprits.
“Namjoon…you… you changed it?” His eyes darted down to the floor. He didn’t dare to look up while confirming everything. “H-Hoseok is my Only. And you knew? You erased my name and made me feel like I was crazy for doubting the computer?”
“Y-Y/N I’m so sorry. I just panicked when I saw your name there. I-I know I don’t have a chance with you, but this made it so final I just couldn’t handle it.” Namjoon explained, shaking. He seemed like a wreck, and you just couldn’t stay too angry at him. You took a deep breath to keep yourself composed.
“Is-“ you looked at SeokJin with eyes full of hope. “Is Hoseok really my Only?” SeokJin just smiled apologetically and nodded. You took in a deep breath, walked up to Namjoon and looked into his eyes. “I can’t forgive you right now. But I understand your motives, and I’m not angry at you. Just don’t force me to forgive you right now. I don’t have the strength for that yet. And honestly if I can’t fix this with Hoseok then I don’t know if I want to talk to you again. Now if you excuse me, I need to find my Only.” You turned away, but hesitated for one second turning to Namjoon one more time to give him one punch right in the stomach. He hunched over holding his stomach and started coughing just to laugh a second later.
“Okay yea I deserved that.” He simply said, while smiling in pain up at you which made your mouth corner twitch up for a second too. Next moment you were already rushing out as fast as possible calling Hoseok’s number every few minutes but he didn’t pick up. Figuring that he’s at dance practice you drove to the studio building only to be stopped at the entrance by two men and the receptionist of the front desk.
“I’m sorry but I need to see Jung Hoseok. Is he here? It’s really important!” you explained to her but she just looked at you apologetically.
“I have the instructions not to let anyone upstairs today. I’m really sorry Miss.”
“Can I at least leave a message for him? Please.” You pleaded, and although she looked a little reluctant at first, she took your message for Hoseok which you quickly wrote down on the page of this week from your work calendar and teared it out to give it to her. You hoped Hoseok would call you once he read it.
It was the same day, but later when you were on your way to dance practice. It was the first dance practice for you since your best friend got injured, and you were terrified of going inside and facing all of these people in there. You took a deep breath and with all your courage you made your way inside. You took a place in the back, too afraid of standing in front of everyone. The others were already whispering about you, and you felt your anxiety rise more and more. When the teacher came in you were a little bit relieved, but your anxiety showed in your dancing. He was very unsatisfied with you, and you were about to go out when suddenly a knock was heard on the door.
“I’m sorry I’m late but could I join your dance class for today? I’ll pay, I promise.” You couldn’t believe your eyes. It was Hoseok still in his full dance gear with his mask on looking just like he always did in his dance videos and it wasn’t just him.
“What do you mean ‘could I’ it should be ‘could we’!” You heard one of the younger ones of Hoseok’s dance team complain.
“And I told you guys to go home.” Hoseok complained while everyone came inside.
“How did you-“ You started, but he just fanned himself with your calendar page – where you also wrote down every practice and the addresses with it – winking at you.
Wow, I was unintentionally smart.
“Oh, that’s actually great. If all of you guys want to join in, we could try a partner dance today! Just go and get yourself a partner.” your instructor called out happily. He seemed thrilled to have some boys in his class for a change. Hoseok immediately took his place next to you. All the girls stared at you two and whispered his name over and over not able to believe it was the J-hope in front of them but you couldn’t care less. All that mattered was that he stood right in front of you right now.
“I’ve got my partner already.” Hoseok grinned while sliding off his mask.
“Not just partner. Your One and Only.” With your words Hoseok’s grin became even wider. He couldn’t help himself, and just hugged you tightly which you returned immediately.
“I knew it from the beginning!” He told you, sticking out his tongue at you like a child.
“I know, I know.” You rolled your eyes at him. “You’re never going to let me forget that, huh?”
“Well, at least now you know that you should always trust in my gut. It’s always right.” He grinned down at you. You both were interrupted by your teacher clearing his throat.
“Are you guys done? Now is dance class time. You have enough time to be all lovey-dovey later.” Your teacher nagged at you, but you could see that he wasn’t too serious about it.
“Yes, sir!” Hoseok replied and then leaned to whisper in your ear. “The rest of our lives should be enough time, right?” Normally you would freak at the thought of such a large commitment, but it just felt right this time. A big grin spread on your face before you replied.
“Barely.”

I’m still alive
First up: Sorry for the long hiatus but life keeps me very busy recently and then I fell into a hole of not being able to write somehow.
But I’m finally back on the track and preparing a little something for y'all right now. Let’s see when I’ll be ready for you guys ~
I have many stories in planning. Some still need some refinement, others are almost finished planning but have to be written still. I can’t promise a weekly update or anything like that since I don’t wanna lose the fun I’m having writing and all that so I’m gonna write whenever I want. I hope you guys understand.
Lastly: I’ve been so happy to see Next Life and Voices get so much love STILL even though it’s been such a long time since I’ve uploaded them. Thank you all for liking my stories. I’m really grateful! I hope I can give you all something to enjoy soon too. Until then: Stay healthy and happy!

I’m sorry for making you cry but I’m so so happy at the same time that it had the emotional effect I wanted it to have!! Thank you for liking my story ㅠㅠ
Next Life
Pairings: idol!Yoongi x fan!Reader
Genre: Angst, Fluff; one shot
Word Count: 5.6k+
Warnings: none that I can think of..?
Summary: When a stranger in a bookstore starts talking to you about book recommendations and slips you his number, you finally feel like you found the one. Even though you could only see his eyes, the rest of his face covered by a cap and mask, it was like lightning went through your body. But will it really work out or does your little love story have more surprises for you than you thought?
a/n: this is one story I had in my head for years actually since I’ve always wondered what it would be like to meet them randomly. I’m a realist so in my eyes it wouldn’t go that smoothly so here you have a very angsty, but also fluffy story~ thanks to my lovely beta reader @yeontanismypresident for proof reading again! You’re a huge help since English isn’t my first language and I’m always glad to hear feedback!!

your eyes flutter shut as yoongi's soft lips land tenderly on your forehead. his arms wrapped around your waist are like a warm embrace. it's comforting, reminds you how much you missed this, and him. four months may not seem long to some people, but when you're so used to having him around, it seems like forever.
his fingers grip the fabric of your shirt, clenching the material between his long, pale fingers. lowering his head, he rests his chin on your shoulder, face hiding in your neck. small kisses are placed on your neck, causing shivers to run down your spine.
you slowly exhale as you feel your body relax in his hold. though, it doesn't last long before you become rigid when his quiet sniffles reach your ears.
eyebrows furrowing in confusion, your voice concerned, "baby? what's wrong?"
"i just missed you so much," yoongi murmurs, pulling you impossibly closer. his words have your heart skipping a beat.
pulling away from him, you rest your hands on his cheeks, thumbs caressing the soft skin. no words need to be exchanged, emotions shining clearly through your eyes. reaching up, you place your forehead on his, smiling when he closes his eyes. his mouth is slightly parted, pink lips looking so inviting. you kiss him gently, lips molding with his, sighing into the kiss when he rubs tiny circles on your hips.
once you pull away, you keep your eyes closed, and say, "i love you."
"i love you, too," he mutters before locking his lips with yours once again.

Nightmare
Pairings: best friend!Hoseok x Reader; friends to lovers!
Genre: Fluff; Angst
Word Count: 2.1k+
Warnings: none I can think of
Summary: You wake up in the middle of the night to a bad thunderstorm, but the thunder isn’t the only weird noise you hear that night. You follow the noise to your best friends room and notice that he has a nightmare. It’s not the first time you calm him down during a nightmare but what happens next is definitely a first.
a/n: this one is a little bit shorter but I hope you’ll like it either way! The idea for this came from a late night, very soft conversation with @yeontanismypresident who also again beta-read for me! Thank you sweetie~ I’m also working a longer story right now and my exams are coming up so I don’t know when the next story will be uploaded after this one. I don’t want to force myself to write either because I don’t want to lose the joy of it. I hope you guys will wait for my return though *cries* OKAY now enjoy the story!!!

A loud noise woke you up from your sleep, making you practically sit up straight in bed. Looking out of your window, you noticed the heavy rain and lightning going on and figured it must’ve been a louder than normal thunder which woke you up. Stretching your stiff limbs, you took a glance to your bedside table, checking your phone for the time.
Only 2AM? You’ve got to be kidding me…
You groaned while getting up to get a glass of water from the kitchen. Walking past your roommate’s door as quiet as possible, you made your way over and quickly finished your midnight mission before heading back to bed. This time though a weird sound coming from your roommate’s room made you stop in front of his door. You contemplated whether you should just leave it and go back to bed, but when you heard the sound again, you decided to enter his room.
Both of you had been really close for years, becoming friends in high school, and even moving in together when you both decided to go to the same college. Even now, where you each had a well-paying job, you were still living together because you just knew you would feel lonely without his cute sound effects and music playing all over the house. Hoseok really was your best friend and you just couldn’t imagine a life without him.
Entering each other’s rooms at night wasn’t that big of a deal. You’re both very comfortable with each other, but the one thing you’ve never done was sleep in each other’s beds or cuddle while sleeping. Somehow it has always been a boundary Hoseok didn’t want to be crossed, so you just accepted this, thinking he wasn’t comfortable with you this close in bed with him. It could’ve given people the wrong idea so it was really okay with you. Although you wouldn’t really mind people thinking of you two like that.
When you entered his room, everything was dark. His face was slightly illuminated by the light coming through his window and the ever so often occurring lightning. It was scrunched up in a deep frown, looking scared and distressed. He was grabbing his sheets tightly and mumbling in his sleep. Whimpers and sometimes even louder noises left his mouth, making it clear to you that those were possibly the sounds you heard.
“Hoseokie…” You looked at him worried, eyes soft with compassion. You silently made your way over, sitting on the very edge of his bed. Hoseok sometimes had nightmares, especially during thunderstorms. It wasn’t a sight you liked but you were definitely used to it by now, knowing what you had to do to calm him down. Humming softly, you started stroking his hair and back gently. You could feel him relax a little, but he was still very much tense. You’ve done this many times, but what happened next was definitely a first.
“Y/N….” He mumbled your name in his sleep, grabbing your wrist softly and pulling you in bed with him while turning away from you. You fell right behind him, face in the pillow and one hand under you to break the fall. You groan a little from the faceplant you just did and give him a slightly annoyed look. You propped yourself up with your free hand, letting your eyes wander over his figure sulkingly. He was still holding onto your right wrist as if it was a stuffed animal, making it impossible for you to get up again.
I don’t know if this is cute or if I should be mad.
Remembering that he doesn’t want to sleep in the same bed with you, you tried to wiggle your hand out of his grasp, but instead of letting go he suddenly turned around, facing you and wrapping his arms around you. Being in this position with him – his arms wrapped tightly around your torso, face buried in your neck – made you blush way more than it should. He hugged you this tightly before, but somehow this just felt different.
“Don’t stop…” he mumbled, and you almost didn’t understand what he was saying. One of your hands, the one on the side of the mattress, was squeezed between your bodies - him having pulled you down when his arms wrapped around you - while the other hand was laying on top of his arm. You needed a minute before you understood what that sleepyhead was referring to and started to pet his hair again, humming a melody you knew he loved, softly in the process. You felt him relax instantly, a sigh leaving his mouth.
I wonder what he was dreaming about.
Before you even noticed, you slipped away into a sweet dream yourself, hand resting gently on his neck when you were too tired to keep playing with his hair.
You woke up to the pleasant feeling of someone stroking up and down your back and leaving sleepy kisses all over your neck and collarbones. Still barely pulled out of your dream yourself, you didn’t think about it twice when Hoseok kissed up your jaw, lips reaching yours to exchange lazy morning kisses. Your hand started playing with the hair in his neck again, gently stroking it while kissing him again and again.
“Hm… baby…” he whined, voice sounding raspy. He still wasn’t even half awake yet and the way you were returning his kisses and playing with his hair, made a small moan escape his throat.
Hearing his voice made you suddenly realize where you were. You pushed him away hard, sitting up quickly. He was trying to pull you back, not really noticing what the problem was until he finally realized that this wasn’t some kind of dream or fantasy of his. You were actually in his bed, sitting next to him very confused now while touching your lips with one hand. The lips he just had on his. He sat up immediately, looking at you in panic.
“Oh my god, Y/N. I’m so sorry! I didn’t- I mean I was still half asleep and- why are you here??”
“Y-You were having a nightmare. So, I came over to calm you down and you pulled me in your bed like I was some stuffed toy and didn’t let me go…” you blushed hard and your heart was beating like crazy.
“Shit, Y/N. That’s exactly why I told you to stay out of my bed. I can’t think straight when I’m sleepy…” he was just as red as you, trying to avoid your eyes at all costs almost looking mad, just as you were trying to avoid looking at a very prominent morning problem of his.
You couldn’t help but feel angry at him for giving you the whole fault in this. You just wanted to help and now he’s acting as if you did it all on purpose.
“Okay, next time I’m just gonna let you suffer by yourself!” you stood up and made your way over to his door.
“Wait a minute, Y/N. That’s not what I meant. But you can’t just slip into bed with me like this!”
“SLIP INTO BED WITH-“ you scoffed. “YOU pulled me!”
“But you sat down first!!” he yelled back at you. Making you look at him in surprise.
“You noticed? You were fucking awake?!” Hoseok stood up and looked to the side. His expression was mad, and he didn’t even know himself why he was mad. If it was because he got caught pulling you in the bed with him on purpose, or if he was mad at himself for doing it in the first place – he couldn’t tell anymore. He didn’t want to talk about this further, too embarrassed and angry at himself.
“This is so stupid.” He said angrily, walking past you.
“Yah!” you looked after him, but he didn’t stop walking, going straight for the bathroom and locking himself in.
What’s his problem?! I’m the victim here. Not him! Why did this idiot have to apologize for kissing me… This makes me so mad.
You couldn’t help the tears stinging in your eyes. You never fought with Hoseok. He was your best friend, your soulmate, and the only guy you ever had eyes for. Every time you started dating someone, you found yourself comparing them to Hoseok and at some point, you accepted your hopeless crush for your best friend. But you never wanted to tell him about it, fearing it could destroy your friendship. When you realized it was him kissing you, your hopes went up immediately, just to be crushed by his words right after.
You could hear the shower running as you walked back to your room, getting dressed and ready for the day even though you felt like shit. As soon as you heard the familiar click of the bathroom door unlocking you went to face Hoseok, too many questions tormenting you. He locked eyes with you for a moment, hair damp and now dressed in a white shirt and black sweatpants, just to walk past you immediately. You stood there for a second speechless at his behavior before starting to follow him to the kitchen.
“Yah, Jung Hoseok. Don’t you want to talk about what happened?” you stood in the doorframe, arms crossed over your chest and completely pissed off.
“I already apologized, Y/N. Can’t you just leave it?” he replied, just as pissed as you were.
“No, I can’t! Why did you pull me in your bed? And why did you kiss me??”
“Okay. Fine.” He slammed the milk on the kitchen island, pausing making breakfast to finally face you infuriated. “I pulled you in bed because I felt like it. And I also kissed you because I felt like it. I’m a guy, Y/N. Guys do this type of shit.”
“But you usually don’t! So, what happened there?? Do you have feelings for me or what?” You said it as a joke, but if you were honest with yourself, you really wanted to know if he had feelings for you. You wanted answers to those all those questions that keep you awake at night and you couldn’t wait anymore.
“I can ask you the same question. Let’s reverse this game you want to play. Why did you return the kisses? Why didn’t you stop me? Why did you even sit down on my bed? Huh? Do YOU have feelings for me??”
Tears were running down your face now. The way he was asking you all these questions in such an aggressive voice, shot pain through your whole body. You started sobbing.
“You’re acting like an asshole.”
“Wha-?!” right then he realized you were crying, his face changing immediately, and leaving a soft expression instead of the angry frown from before.
“Shit, Y/N. Please don’t cry.” Hoseok came rushing over to you. He wanted to hug you, but you pushed his hands away and stepped backwards. “I’m sorry. Please. Don’t cry. I really am an asshole. Please, Y/N. I’m so sorry for what I’ve done.”
“Stop apologizing!” you cried out. “Stop saying you’re sorry for what you’ve done! It hurts.”
“What do you-“ he looks at you completely confused, but you wouldn’t let him finish his question.
“I finally felt like you liked me too. And then you start apologizing for everything and make me feel like shit again. Damn you, Jung Hoseok. Of course, I like you, you asshole! Why else would I come into your room at 2AM to calm you down?? And now you even get mad at me even though I never wanted to show you how much I liked you. It’s all your fault!” You cried out, closing your eyes while trying to wipe away those stupid tears that wouldn’t stop running down your face. His hands found your cheeks, thumbs stroking away your tears gently while shushing you softly.
“Shh, it’s okay. It’s okay. I’m sorry for apologizing. Ugh, I don’t know how to say this without apologizing again. Sorry. Uhm. I-I didn’t just pull you in because I felt like it. That was one of the reasons but I really just wanted to have you with me. I had a bad nightmare and I- just wanted the woman I love next to me to comfort me.” He turned bright red while saying the last sentence. You just stared at him with big eyes, tears finally coming to a halt.
“Y-You-“ He nodded, looking right into your eyes with a loving gaze.
“I love you. I’m sorry for not tel-“ his words were cut off by you throwing your hands around his neck and pressing your mouth to his. Hoseoks eyes widened in surprise, but he eased into the kiss quickly, dominating it immediately. It felt like forever until you finally separated in need of air, his hands on your hips and yours still around his neck.
“Wow, now I’m kinda sad I took the cold shower.” He grinned at you, making you gasp and hit him on his chest for the comment. He just laughed and flinched away when you tried hitting him again.

Dream job: hard to tell atm. I thought it was being a physics/mathematics teacher but after rethinking I would like to go into programming. I’m an introvert and programming has always been something I’m quite comfortable with so there’s that.
When I started this blog: 2019
Reason for my URL: well first off I always loved the name ‘Sky’ since I’ve been interested in stars, planes, astrophysics for a while and the second part was actually a real struggle for me. I wanted to create a space that is a safe haven for me and my readers to forget what they’re dealing with even if it’s just for a short time. That’s why I try to make happy endings mostly and always try to put a message in my stories. I do also have some that are just meant to give a cozy vibe but you get the point. I’m really bad at giving myself names so the best one I could come up with that included the things I wanted to portray was ‘big hearted’. That’s how “bigheartedsky” was born lol
AND I LITERALLY HAVE NO ONE TO TAG SINCE I’M SO NEW HERE UGH

“We still have an hour before boarding starts.” Your best friend checked her watch while you came to a halt in the middle of the waiting area.
“Do you want to grab something to eat or drink? I’m actually really craving a coffee.” She added while looking around, but your focus was already on a quite different place that had nothing to do with food. Alex followed your eyes before sighing and chuckling. The chuckle brought your attention to her and you remembered that she had just asked you something.
“Sorry. Food sounds good. Would you mind if I-“
“Went to the bookstore before?” your friend grinned, finishing your sentence and you gave her a sheepish smile, apologizing with your eyes. “Sure, go ahead. I’ll save you a place at the Starbucks over there. I know you can’t keep away from books anyways so no surprise there. No wonder you work at a bookstore.”
You followed with your eyes where she was pointing at before nodding and smiling. That same smile on your lips, you entered the bookstore, taking in the familiar smell of new books and magazines.
Which one of you should I add to my collection this time…? I need something to read on the flight anyways.
You let your fingers gently stroke the top of the books while walking past them until one of them caught your interest. Reading through the description on the back, you didn’t notice how someone was slowly approaching you.
“That one is boring.” A male voice said right next to you - although it seemed more like he mumbled it to himself rather than actually directing it at you. You looked around confused, making sure you were the one he meant. He stood right next to you, skimming the books you both were standing in front of, and grabbing one of them to check it before laying it back on the pile.
“Excuse me?” he looked at you for a second, eyes meeting yours, and you felt for a second as if the whole world stood still. It was like a lightning that went through your whole body to find home right where your heart is. You never felt like this before in your life.
Is that what love at first sight feels like? you wondered while still staring at him. You’ve always been a romantic, but very realistic person, which made you like that thought, but at the same time shake it off immediately.
This was so weird.
He held your gaze for a second, before looking back to the book in your hands and tapping on it. He was wearing all black and his face was barely visible due to a cap and mask – both black as well. His hands were really pretty, you noticed while he tapped the book in your hands for a moment, with slender, long fingers, making you wonder what it would feel like to hold them.
What the hell is happening to me? I haven’t said three words to him yet I’m fantasising about holding his hands?? I need to read less romantic novels.
“This one is boring.” His words pulled you back into reality.
“It’s well written but the plot is not well thought out and the ending is very unsatisfying. The character development is underwhelming as well. There are better things to choose.” He explained in such a nonchalant way, it almost made you smile. Cocking your head to the side curiously, you stared at him for a second before putting the book back.
“Okay. Suggest one to me then.” His eyes met yours again after saying that. He looked surprised but it only lasted a second before he started looking around.
Somehow, I feel really comfortable with him. He seems so familiar the way he’s speaking. As if I’ve known him for years.
You got pulled back into reality when he suddenly started walking towards one of the shelfs, taking one book and reaching it out to give to you without a word. Looking down you read the title out loud.
“The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I’m impressed.” You looked up at him grinning. “That’s a really good choice. A classic and to your luck I haven’t read this one yet.”
Was that a smile coming up to his eyes? It’s hard to see through the mask, but I think it was. Cute…
He cleared his throat before looking around again and then back at you.
“What about you?” he suddenly asked, ears glowing red. You looked at him confused for a moment until he added almost impatiently. “A book you would recommend me.”
“Oh! Uhm… let me think.” Your eyes start roaming all the books in the store. It was your job but still, sometimes it took quite some time for you to recommend books to people you just met. But then one book caught your eye that never failed to make you smile. You weren’t sure if it was his style, but because your own experience reading it was so special, you chose to recommend it anyways.
“Here, Into the Magic Shop by Dr. James Doty. I don’t know if this is the kind you like to read, but personally it helped me a lot when I was feeling down so… yea.” You slowly felt yourself blush and grow nervous the more you tried to explain to him why you recommend it.
“Someone once recommended it to me telling me that it holds the key to creating your life the way you want it to be without dying due to stress or overthinking. It made me change my perspective on work and life itself and rethink my life choices a lot.” He looked at the book nodding. His eyes widened in surprise when he saw you chose this one at first but when you finished explaining he forgot all his worries and just accepted the offer. His eyes darted to the price tags of both books you had chosen for each other and after a moment of thought he gave you “Into the Magic Shop”.
“Pay this for me.” He said shortly before turning to go to the register to pay for the book he had chosen for you. You stood there dumbfounded for a second before quickly following him to pay too. After he finished paying, he stood at the other end of the register and did something you couldn’t quite see with the book while waiting for you to finish too. After you finished, he held out the book for you with one hand, and his free hand to receive the one for himself. You traded the books and you couldn’t help the smile on your face, especially as his fingers lingered on yours for the briefest moment while trading them, electricity and warmth running through your body and making you blush. You hoped with everything in you that he felt the same things you did.
“Thank you.” You said smiling from ear to ear. Your heart was beating a little faster and you felt like a teenager crushing hard on a stranger right now. The smile was tugging on his eyes again and you could see that he was fighting it a little.
Should I ask for his number? I don’t think I can live without seeing him again. I would definitely regret it. Okay here I go!
But just as you were about to ask him for his contacts, his voice cut off your attempt before it even began.
“Keep it safe for me, okay? See you.” And with that he turned and walked out of your view before you could say anything further. At first you felt regret but then another feeling spread throughout your body instead - confusion and hope.
See you?
Somehow the promise of these two words made you smile even more. You looked down at the book, noticing now that this one was way more expensive than the one you paid. Your eyes darted to the place you had last seen him but he was already gone.
He took the more expensive one on purpose... You started feeling all warm and fuzzy thinking about this small gesture.
Packing the book in a safe spot in your bag, you started making your way to the Starbucks. Of course, Alex started complaining a little about you taking way longer than normal, but that made her have an excuse to get another one of her favorite Frappuccino’s, which she definitely wasn’t angry about. You still don’t know why but you didn’t immediately start telling her about the handsome bookstore stranger. Well, you thought he was handsome due to his eyes being on show – and very pretty – but you weren’t really sure what he looked like. You didn’t even know his name and still here you were daydreaming about that moment over and over again while somewhat listening to your best friend talking about her favorite TV show at the moment.
“Good afternoon passengers. This is the pre-boarding announcement for flight 713B to London. We are now inviting those passengers with small children, and any passengers requiring special assistance, to begin boarding at this time. Please have your boarding pass and identification ready. Regular boarding will begin in approximately ten minutes time. Thank you.”
Hearing the announcement, you slowly started packing up your stuff to leave for your gate, knowing it is still quite a walk.
“Wouldn’t it be crazy to meet one of the BTS members randomly at the airport today?”
“It would be. But it would also be highly unlikely.” You laughed at your friend’s enthusiasm for that imagine.
“I mean, it’s not that unlikely! Think about it. They had concerts here on Monday and Tuesday. Today is Friday and tomorrow will be their concert in London.” Alex paused for a second to calm herself down from knowing she would see them live in less than 48 hours from now. “It’s not that unlikely for them to fly to London today!”
“But it’s unlikely for them to wait here with all the normal passengers for their private jet.” You scoffed but still you found yourself wondering what it would be like to actually run into them.
I just hope I would treat them normally. Best thing would be if I don’t even recognize it’s them until later. Don’t wanna scare them away...
You laughed a little at your own thought while taking out your boarding pass and passport.
You waited for the plane to be all the way up in traveling height before you took out the book the stranger bought you. You couldn’t help the smile on your face while looking at it, thanking god for distracting your friend with the on-board movie program so she didn’t notice. Opening it you flicked through it with your finger sliding over the side of the pages. You loved the feeling and sound it made when you flicked through all the pages of a book. Used to seeing the photobooks of K-pop albums stop at a specific page, with a photocard in between, you weren’t surprised at first when it happened with this book too, but when it hit you that this shouldn’t happen with a normal book your heart rate immediately picked up. You took out the piece of paper stuck between the pages to unfold it.
[When I saw you today, I felt like I walked into my Magic Shop. Tell me if you like the book.

- Min]
So, his name was Min?
You smiled to yourself when suddenly your best friend exclaimed.
“Someone snuck you their number????” you blushed and shushed her, looking around apologetically to the people around you. Sometime while you were reading the message, she must’ve looked at you and seen the message. Not being able to hide anything anymore, you start telling her about everything that happened, and even though you were the one with a huge crush, she seemed more excited than you. You had to promise her to message him right after you guys landed, which you didn’t mind since the relief you felt knowing you can contact him anytime now made you all giddy and impatient for the plane to finally arrive at its destination.
“Who knows where this guy is from! You said he had a Korean accent, but does he really live in Korea? You never know where people live even if they have an accent. Our world is so globalized that you can basically live in Italy as a Chinese person and have half Swedish parents! Anything is possible.” Alex was at this since you finished telling her the story.
“I don’t know. But I hope I’ll find out.” You simply said before you started to dive into the world of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
[12:56 AM – Y/N]
[Hey Min! This is the girl from the Bookstore. I started reading The Alchemist on my flight to London and so far, I really like it. Thank you for the recommendation.]
[01:34 PM – Min]
[I’m glad you like it. How was your flight? And I need your name so that I can save you.]
[01:35PM – Y/N]
[My name is Y/N and my flight was good. How was yours? Or are you still waiting for the boarding?]
[01:36PM - Min]
[We arrived a few minutes ago, too. Your book is not bad as well, btw.]
[…]
“Are you still texting with Min?” Alex asked grabbing herself a plate at the breakfast buffet of your hotel.
“Yea. We’ve been talking all night about music and books and somehow lost track of time. We have a lot in common and I honestly feel good about this. Everything is so easy and just falls into place.” You blush, telling your friend about the things you talked about.
“And you won’t believe it, but he’s actually in London as well. Says he has some work to do here before flying somewhere else. And he asked if I want to meet up the day after tomorrow with him.”
“But our flight back leaves tomorrow.” Alex frowns at you, unhappy with how your love story isn’t exactly like the fairytales, where everything turns out perfectly.
“I know. I told him that as well so he asked me to meet tonight after he’s done working…”
“Oh my god!! You have to go! Please tell me you’re going.” You sighed.
“Honestly, I really really want to. But our plane leaves so early we have to get back to the hotel immediately after the concert to start packing and leave for the airport. You know that our schedule is too tight for extra trips.”
Your friend was suddenly very quiet, making you look up from the buffet in front of you and at her. She looked deep in thought, looking at the eggs as if her life depended on the decision between boiled or scrambled egg. Then all of a sudden Alex exclaimed, making you almost drop your plate in surprise.
“How about we pack everything now and I’ll ask the taxi driver to pick you up at the spot where your lover boy wants to meet you! You could spend some time with him then and I’ll get our luggage and pick you up with the taxi later. It’s perfect! You just have to pick a spot that’s not too far away from Wembley.” You thought about her words for a long time, running the numbers if it was really possible to do or not.
“Okay. I’ll ask where he wants to meet.” You started smiling while typing the question in your message bar.
The BTS concert that evening was far more than just amazing. It was wonderful. You were absolutely stunned with how good they actually were live, having only seen them on screens or listen to their songs digitally. You were so excited and talkative after the concert that you almost forgot your date with Min for a second. You quickly made your way to the bathrooms, changing into something that wasn’t drenched in sweat and putting your other clothes in a bag for Alex to take with her. You checked yourself in the mirror one last time before jogging out to Alex.
“If we hurry up, we can see them leave the hall before you have your date. I heard that they leave while everyone is busy looking at the fireworks and my friend – who works here – told me where the exit for the stars is.”
You didn’t really want to be one of the fans who stalked their idols but you thought that just watching them leave the building from far away wouldn’t hurt, since many fans did this. And just as you wondered if others knew about the exit too, you were greeted by a crowd of people on the stairs in front of you. They were all waiting for someone coming out of the one exit in view to say a final goodbye. Instead of squeezing yourself on the stairs with the others, Alex pulled you over to the other side where a small balcony-like structure, that was somewhat hidden if you looked in its direction from the stairs, had an even better view on the exit.
And then they came out. You could see them all clearly, being not too far away but also not too close to them. Two huge black vans pulled over for the members to get in. You were excited to see them one last time until one person came into view.
All in black with a black cap and a black mask, holding a book in his hand that you could even identify from where you were standing at. Your thoughts were racing.
Min…? Min… No way…
You pulled out your phone as quickly as you could, dialing his number with shaking hands and waiting for him to pick up. You prayed it wasn’t the man in front of your eyes, knowing exactly what that would mean for your growing relationship with him. But there he was, pulling out his phone and greeting you while making his way to the car, about to get in.
“Sorry, I’m running a little late. Are you already there-?” he stopped when he heard your quiet and breathy response.
“Min…Yoongi…?” his head shot up, meeting your eyes immediately. Tears were swelling in your eyes.
No… why… why does it have to be you?
You turned and just ran, ending the call - a faint call of your name ringing in your ear - and putting it back in your bag. Alex needed a second before she realized what was happening. She waited until Yoongi got in the car – hesitating and staring after you for quite a while – before she tried to catch up with you. Which she did since Alex has always been the sporty one while you were the bookworm in your friendship.
“Y/N! Whoa whoa whoa, stop!!” your friend ran around you, making you stop by standing right in front of you and grabbing your arms gently. “What just happened there?”
“It’s him! M-Min is- He is-“
“Min Yoongi…? Wow, didn’t see that one coming.” Alex replied quietly, almost to herself.
“But what the hell are you doing, running away instead of going to the place you guys are supposed to meet??” she stared at you intently trying to get some sense into you.
“He’s an idol, Alex! And I’m his fan. This can’t work out. The entertainment, the fans, the members… they won’t just sit there and watch us become a couple.” you were panicking completely.
“Okay you have a point there, but you still have to talk to him about this. You can’t just run away from this without giving him a chance at all. Please, Y/N. Go to your meeting spot.” You looked into the eyes of your best friend, unsure of what to do. You felt insecure. Every single flaw that you saw in yourself was suddenly even more obvious than before.
“What if he doesn’t show up?” you asked timidly.
“Then he’s an asshole that doesn’t deserve you.” You smiled a little at that, especially since you knew he was Alex’s bias and she would never actually think of him as an asshole.
You weren’t far away from the bridge he wanted to meet on. With every step you took, your heart started beating faster and louder. Your whole body was shaking, wondering if he was going to show up or not. You turned around the corner, the bridge coming into view, slowly making your way on top of it. It was a bridge only for pedestrians and it wasn’t surprising to see it almost empty due to it being past midnight. As soon as you arrived the beginning of the bridge on your side of the small river, you could make out a person standing in the middle of it, leaning on the railing with his head resting in his hands. He looked distressed.
Your heart was beating like crazy and when you were just a few steps away he suddenly looked at you. You both paused and your rapid heartbeat slowed down immediately. His presence had a calming effect on you, which you would have never expected in this situation. He was still wearing his cap but he took off the mask, holding it tightly in his fist.
Silence.
You stared at each other both weighing what would be the best thing to say. You could see his struggle with the right words so instead of letting him suffer more, you started.
“Sorry for calling you with such a bad timing.” You smiled sadly, walking up to him and joining him in leaning your hands on the railing too. You left a small space in between just to make sure he wasn’t getting uncomfortable.
“So, you’re an ARMY?” he asked simply, not letting any emotions show.
“Yea, I am.” You could see him nod.
“Did you know it was me?” his jaw clenched at the thought of you maybe knowing and not telling him.
“Do you really think I would’ve reacted this way today if I knew?” you looked at him questioning if he even thought about his words before asking this. It made you angry that he actually thought you could do something like this. But then again you knew each other for a little more than a day so you couldn’t really judge him for it.
“I had to ask.”
“Sorry. Of course, you would be leery of someone you barely know.” You apologized after considering his point of view.
Silence again.
A shiver was running down your body. It got really cold now compared to the warm weather during daytime and you wished you had kept on your BTS jacket instead of giving it to Alex to take to the hotel with her. A shirt and skirt really weren’t appropriate for weather like this. You suddenly felt something heavy on your shoulders and immediately warmth spread throughout your body. You grabbed at the fabric of the long black coat Yoongi was just wearing seconds ago, that was now placed on your shoulders to warm you instead.
“Won’t you feel cold? If you get sick everyone will be sad.” You quickly told him wanting to give the jacket back.
“I rarely get sick and was feeling warm anyways. Also…” he pauses to look at you for a moment before looking in the distance again. “if you get sick, I’ll be sad.”
You blushing would be an understatement. You were completely speechless just simply staring at his side profile. He was avoiding to look at you at any cost.
“I mean, you are our fan after all. And ARMYs are everything to us.”
“Ah… right.” A bittersweet feeling spread in you. You were glad he was kind to you, but sad because he was now only seeing you as a fan and not as a woman anymore. Biting your lower lip, you assembled all your confidence to finally say the words tormenting you.
“If it’s uncomfortable for you we can stop talking. I’m not gonna stalk you or spread your number. If you want, I’ll delete everything and throw away the note right here.”
Please say no please say no please say no
“I think that’s the best for both of us.” A sharp pain hit your heart right when you heard him say those words. You just nod and take out your phone with shaking hands. Tears gather in your eyes and you can’t see anything on your screen, nor can you type anything. His hand suddenly wraps around yours, phone still inside. You look up at him and – are those tears in his eyes?
“But I don’t want to do it.” He added to his last statement.
“Yoongi…” you turn to face him. “Just think about it. This can’t work. You work in Korea as an idol and I’m a simple bookshop worker here. You’re on watch 24/7 and I don’t want to be the cause of your first scandal. I don’t want to be the reason you get a bad image and have to struggle with bad comments. I don’t want you to get hurt because of –“
He pulled you to his chest, not caring that his coat fell off your shoulders in the process and just held you there.
“Me too.” he whispered into your shoulder. “I don’t want you to get hurt.”
Wrapping your hands around him you cried into his chest, knowing that the guy you felt like could finally be the one, is the only one you could actually never call your own.
You stayed like this until you calmed down and after a long time of talking you both decided that, if you want the other to stay safe, the best thing would be to stop this before it even begins. You deleted his number in front of his eyes, including all messages and took out the piece of paper that started all of this.
“I can’t throw this out. Can you please just take it with you? It’s too precious to me.” You put it in his hand, closing it around the piece of paper. He nodded and you smiled sadly while a taxi pulled up at the end of the bridge honking. You both looked at the cab in question.
“That’s me.” You looked back at him taking off his coat, that was wrapped around your shoulders again and put it around his’ instead. You gave him a shy kiss on his cheek while you leaned in looking at him sadly one last time.
“Maybe if we’ll meet again in our next life it will work out… us meeting as equals.” he held your hand tightly while you said that. He didn’t want to let you go and he was wishing right then and there that you could just come with him and be his little secret. But he knew that it was selfish so instead he did the only thing that made him feel somewhat better about everything.
You heard another honk from the taxi, followed by your friend calling your name because the time was running out.
“I have to go.” You told him wanting to let go of his hand but he held you in place now fiddling with one of his silver bracelets he was wearing. It was a simple bracelet on the chunkier side, more of a design made for male customers. He put it on your wrist quickly as if it was a promise.
“Until next life.” He said to underline the wordless promise he just gave to you. You started tearing up again before finally making your way to the cab quickly. You practically ran to prevent losing yourself in your feelings completely.
As soon as you got in the car it started driving. You stared out the window, vaguely able to make out Yoongis form as he put the silver ring you always wore on his pinky finger. You slipped it into his hand as soon as he finished putting the bracelet on your wrist. As his figure became blurred with increasing distance, your heart started aching more and more. By the time you arrived at the airport you were breaking apart – your friend’s arms were the only thing holding you together.
The last months were pure torture. You never experienced such a bad heartbreak before, and you didn’t even understand why you felt such a deep connection with someone you actually only talked to for roughly two days. He was the one, and you knew you wouldn’t find anyone that could take his place. He was perfect for you, but you let him go. It was better that way. At least that’s what you were trying to tell yourself.
“Y/N!!!!” you jumped, almost falling down the stairs of the small staircase you used to reach the higher shelves. Alex came storming into the bookstore you worked at with her phone in her hand, something playing on the screen. You’ve been daydreaming a lot ever since you came back from London, making you jump way more than usual when your best friend came in, yelling like this.
“What’s wrong, Alex?? Is someone hurt?” you looked at her in worry since normally she would never barge into your workplace like this.
“No one is hurt. Or actually I think someone is very badly hurt. Look.” She shoved her phone in your hand, and you couldn’t help the pain you felt when you saw what was playing on the screen. It was a live stream on Vapp and greeting you there was none other than Yoongi.
He looks so tired… Does he sleep well?
“Why are you showing this to me?” you asked her, feeling the sharp pain in your heart again.
“Listen to what he’s saying! I’m not sure if I understood everything correctly but I think he’s talking about you!”
You looked around unsure of what to do before you took the headphone from your best friend and started listening intently to what he was saying in korean. Your Korean was actually quite good, having spent way too much time to learn more of it as a distraction over the last 2 months.
“…yes, so as said that person, I met her at the airport and she recommended this book to me. She told me it helped her a lot with stressing less in life and made her rethink her choices in life. And, well, it honestly has the same effect on me now. I’ve been wondering what is the most important thing in my life right now and I’m thankful to her for giving me such a good life lesson.” He started playing with a silver ring on his pinky.
My ring… Your hand went to the bracelet around your wrist immediately.
“I came to the conclusion that if I keep pushing things that I want to do to a different time, it’s no good. And damn, ‘next life’ is so far away.”
Your heart rate picked up immediately. You couldn’t believe what you heard. Everyone was confused to what he exactly meant by that statement but he didn’t answer any of the questions. Instead he just stared blankly, thinking hard, for a moment.
“Sorry for this abrupt ending but I’m going to end the vlive here. I have something to do. Don’t skip your meals, it can weaken your immune system. Don’t catch a cold. Thank you, everyone and see you later.” And with that the vlive suddenly ended.
“What happened?” your best friend asked when you gave her the phone back.
“He said he had something to do and suddenly ended the live. But before that he said that I quote: ‘next life is so far away’” you looked at Alex with big eyes. Having explained to her what went down on the bridge two months ago, she immediately knew what that meant.
“You don’t think he meant-“ She stopped talking as soon as you both heard your phone start ringing. Your heart was beating like crazy and even though you tried to tell yourself not to get excited or have any expectations, you did either way. Looking at your mobile phone screen you saw a number that wasn’t saved in your phone. A Korean mobile phone number.
You answered the phone with a simple greeting because you knew immediately who was on the other end.
“I can’t wait until fucking next life.”
His voice was calm but you could hear the desperation and pure exhaustion in it. Tears started gathering in your eyes, not even sparing a second before rolling down your face. You couldn’t help the sob that left your mouth.
“You were supposed to delete my number! Calls from overseas are expensive!” you sobbed into your phone.
“I don’t care. I’m going to pay the bill for you. Just tell me – honestly – if you feel the same way.” You sobbed again. Alex looked at you with a compassionate smile, knowing exactly why you reacted the way you did. It pained him to hear you cry so much, and it made him tear up himself. Even if he wasn’t the type to cry easily, hearing you cry just had that effect on him.
“Please, don’t cry, Y/N. I’m not going to call again, just please stop crying.”
“N-NO! I’m so glad you called… I-I’m sorry for crying. I’m just s-so happy…” you tried sounding as normal as possible, but you just couldn’t avoid the hiccups here and there. “I was hoping every day that you would call. I was so stupid back then. Please forgive me, I can’t wait until next life either!”
The next things you hear are just a big exhale, a chuckle and sniffles.
Is he crying, too? You wondered, hearing him speak a second later.
“Okay, now that that’s settled. Who is going to visit who first?”

Pairings: Rivals to lovers!; dance major!Jimin x Reader
Genre: Fluff (some Angst and teasing too)
Word Count: 7.4k+
Warnings: other than Y/N and Jimin yelling at each other nothing I think?
Summary: Jimin and you had been at each others throats ever since you stepped foot in the same university. No one - not even you two - knew why exactly, but the fact that you both were at the top of your modern dance class was explanation enough for everyone. You guys were rivals. But given your similar styles in dance it wasn’t surprising that your professor chose to pair you guys up for the upcoming show. Will you survive having to work together with Jimin or will you kill each other in the process?
a/n: here is another one shot! This time it’s Chimchims turn hehe. Thanks to the beautiful @yeontanismypresident for beta reading again. You’re a HUGE help!! HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!
Masterlist
„Okay, everyone! Gather around!” your professor for modern dance exclaimed loud enough to overpower the music. The music got cut off, and as soon as that happened, your partner just dropped you, not caring how harsh your landing would be. Which indeed was a quite painful one. You glared at his back while he made his way over to the professor.
“Yah! Park Jimin!” you yelled after him, but he just ignored you. You hated this. Why was he your partner out of everyone? While you were still trying to figure out your wrongdoings in life to deserve all this, you could hear some of the girls swoon over Jimin, eyeing him like he was a three-course meal. It made you even angrier, thinking about how popular he was despite the obvious mistreatment he was giving you.
“Hey, Y/N! That also counts for you!” you heard your professor tell you while waving you over to them, strictly. Anger was boiling up in you. Quickly standing up, you went to complain to your professor, still rubbing your hurting bum from the collision with the ground.
“If he would stop carelessly dropping me all the time, I would be able to come over quicker.” you pointed at Jimin, but that boy just scoffed.
“If you can’t even manage to improvise a proper landing, why bother taking this class? You can’t blame me for your lack of skills.” Jimin answered with a cold stare at you – nothing like the loving gaze he gave you while dancing the choreography a little bit earlier. You were fuming with anger.
“You-!!”
“That’s enough, you two. Can you try sorting your differences out? This isn’t kindergarten. I expect of you to act like professionals or else I’m going to kick you both out of the show. Jimin, you’re going to properly put her down. If I see you dropping her on purpose one more time, I’m making you run laps around the dance department until you drop. These kinds of things are not funny, you can injure your partner like that.” Professor Jung scolded both of you. You both simply answered with a small “Yes, professor.” Before glaring at each other again for talking at the same time.
“Now let’s talk about today’s lesson….”
You spaced out, still glaring at Jimin's profile.
How did I end up in this situation? Why do I have to play friendly with him? God, I hate him. I hate you Park Jimin!!
He suddenly looked at you, smirking provocatively. Blood shot to your cheeks for getting caught like that, while he motioned for you to look at the front instead of his face. The professor suddenly dismissed the class, and you got ready to go, taking your bag and water bottle.
“Jimin and Y/N. I want you to stay behind and practice some more. Work on your teamwork.” professor Jung said in a tone that didn’t leave any space for complaints even if he saw the way your faces scrunched up in annoyance.
“But professor I have to-“
“No, Y/N. You don’t have to do anything except get your shit together. I want you to really think about what’s your problem with each other, and if you can’t solve it, at least ignore it until the show is over.”
With those words, he left you and Jimin behind in the room. Jimin groaned in annoyance.
“Why do you always have to complain about trifles?” he ran his fingers through his hair while looking away from you, stating this more than questioning.
“Trifles?? You’re the one always picking a fight with me! You didn’t need to let go off me like I was some kind of gross, poisonous- …something! God, I hate you so much.”
“Well, then we’re at least on the same page with one thing, because I hate you just as much!” he walked up to you, glaring down at you once he arrived. “Like what’s your fucking problem?”
“My problem?? You’ve been trying to annoy me ever since I joined this class! Who wouldn’t hate an annoying asshole like yourself that only knows how to fuck around with people?!” Jimin started grinning, not believing what he just heard. He threw his head back scoffing, tongue poking his cheek from the inside.
“So, you’re still not over that? Come on, Y/N. Just because you saw me fooling around at a party shortly after your arrival, doesn’t mean I’m always that irresponsible. And I can’t believe that that actually bothers you. Jealous or what?”
“JEALOUS?!” you yelled, shocked at his presumption. Now you were the one scoffing and looking away in annoyance. You let out a shaky breath out of anger before looking back at him.
“Yah, Park Jimin. I know you think you’re all great, and every girl loves you, but honestly, you’re really not my type.”
“Not your type, huh? So why do you blush whenever I catch you staring at me? And why does your heart beat so fast when I hold you close?” you looked at him open-mouthed, before starting to blush and look away. He started smirking as soon as you looked away. Thinking about a good answer, you stayed quiet for a second before looking at him again.
“Of course, my heart is beating fast because we’re DANCING, Jimin. Don’t push your ego with that. And I don’t blush! I’m red with- …. anger!” you state, brushing against his shoulder harshly when you made your way past him. “If that’s all you have to say, then I’m outta here. I’m not gonna stay just for you to make fun of me.”
Suddenly his hand grabbed your wrist, pulling you back. You stumbled against his chest, and he held you there as if he was scared of losing you if he let go. Heart rate increasing, you looked around in confusion until your eyes met with your reflection. The way he was holding you – arms wrapped around your upper body so that each hand was holding onto one of your arms and head buried in your neck – made you blush. It looked so loving. You readied yourself to push him away, but the way his voice sounded, saying his next words, you paused.
“Don’t go.” Jimin whispered quietly, barely loud enough for you to hear. Worry was everything you felt that moment, not caring about your fight a few seconds ago. You ignored your rapidly beating heart, and the way every part of your body that he touched started burning up and just tried to focus on figuring out what was going on.
“J-Jimin?” you asked carefully. He let out a shaky breath against your neck as if he was struggling to find the right words. Your hands involuntarily grabbed onto his shirt on each side of his torso. A shiver crept up your spine, but you tried to make it as inconspicuous as possible.
“Is everything alright?” you heard yourself asking. Jimin suddenly started shaking with his whole body. “J-Jimin??” genuinely worried you tried to look at him, but he wouldn’t let you. You tried to see his expression in the mirror, but it was covered by your body.
“You are so….” he finally spoke laughing lightly, “easy to fool.”
Huh?
He started laughing while letting you go. You stood in front of him, completely confused until it hit you.
That asshole was acting?!?! He wasn’t shaking, he was laughing?!
Jimin held his stomach laughing at you, now one step far away.
“Wow, you were genuinely concerned for me there? I’m honored. You know you can be really cute – when you’re not complaining that is.” he looked you in the eyes, grinning cheekily while leaning forward to face you on eye level. What he said next was just a quiet whisper, making you question if he really said it. Your whole body was starting to burn up – but this time purely with anger.
“It’s nice to know that I have such an effect on you – even making you shiver like that.”
“Wha-?!” you shoved him away from you, making him stumble backwards. “That wasn’t because of you!! It’s damn cold in here and unlike you, I’m not wearing a sweater! Don’t flatter yourself!”, your face was burning up. You never felt so embarrassed and exposed.
I’m such a fool for actually worrying.
“Tell me what you want, Y/L/N. I know what I felt. So much to ‘my heart’s beating fast because we’re dancing’”
“I hate you.”, you turned on your heels, taking your bag and leaving the room.
Jimin waited until you were gone before dropping down in a crouching position and running his hands over his face. He then ran one of them through his hair, looking at himself in the mirror.
“What are you doing, Park Jimin...?”, he asked, sighing, lightly laughing at himself. “That was close…”
You almost ran to your dorm, wanting to get away from that place as soon as possible and just talk to your best friend about everything. The door’s slamming sound as you walked in your shared dorm room was enough for your bestie to know what was going on.
“Let me guess…. Park Jimin?”
“Ding Ding Ding! The winner gets 100 points.”, you answer sarcastically, falling backwards on your bed.
“What did he do this time?”
“Well, first. He dropped me during class AGAIN and picked a fight with me afterwards, resulting in us having to stay longer. And second….”, you hesitated. How can you word this without it sounding weird?
“Second?”, Sam looked at you – now all of her attention was on you instead of the homework she was doing before. She immediately sensed that something was up.
“He suddenly hugged me – and I don’t mean that friendly kinda hug we do – no, like he full on hugged me like a – a…“, struggling with the right word to use, Sam came to help you.
“lover?”
“Yes!”, you sat up pointing at her, but then realized what that sounded like, looking shocked. Sam looked at you knowingly, raising an eyebrow. “Wait, no! Don’t look at me like that. He was just acting. He wanted to tease me! What an asshole would do that!”
“So, let me get this straight. Park Jimin – the guy that made you sign up at this school, but you strangely hate now – came up to you to hug you – like really hug you, just to tease you. And that actually worked on you.”
“Yes. I mean, no! God, I don’t know.”
“Uh-huh…”, your friend eyed you down, making you feel as if you were under an X-Ray – no chance of hiding anything. You stayed silent, and she kept waiting for you to say whatever it was on your mind at that moment, watching how you chewed on your lower lip. A habit you always showed when something was bugging you.
“Did you ever feel anything while dancing with a guy in class?”, you looked at Sam, desperate for her to tell you the answer you hoped she would give you. But, of course, she didn’t.
“Hm… Other than when I dance with my boyfriend – no.”, she smiled at you with pity in her eyes while you let yourself fall back on your bed groaning.
That evening you had trouble falling asleep – tossing and turning around every few minutes. Looking at your phone, you noted that it was already 1:36AM. Finally, being fed up with laying around and staring at your ceiling, you got up and got dressed in black pants, sports bra, and a simple oversized flannel, making your way to the one place that always helped you destress – and the only place you could figure was still open at this hour.
__
The music was blasting in the dance club. It wasn’t one of those types of clubs where everyone was grinding on each other – no, it was a club specifically for people like you that genuinely enjoyed dancing, especially to K-pop. You’ve been learning choreographies by watching dance practices of idols ever since you were a kid, and when you discovered this club, it made you immediately feel at home, making you come here as often as possible.
“Jin-oppa!” you exclaimed smiling, seeing your favorite bartender working today.
“Oh, Y/N! Didn’t expect seeing you again so early. Something happened?” he was joking, already pouring you your favorite drink, but you couldn’t hide the fact that he actually hit the nail on the head.
“Don’t even get me started.” You replied, sighing.
“Ooh. That bad? Don’t tell me that boy you told me about still bullies you. If he does, I’m gonna come to your next practice and-“
“It’s okay!” you said, now really smiling happily because of Jin’s brotherly protectiveness.
“Okay, but this drink is on me. I don’t like that sulky face of yours.”
“Thank you.” Taking a few sips of your drink, you continued talking to Jin for a while before hearing Block Bs ‘Shall we dance’ start playing. You couldn’t help yourself and sway to the music until Jin urged you into going on the dance floor while he looks after your drink. Not needing to be told twice, you stood up grinning and opened up your flannel because you were sure that your temperature would rise in the next few minutes. You fell in with the other people dancing while tying your hair up in a high ponytail. Everyone was freestyling to the music until the refrain came on – which everyone knew the choreography to. You were laughing while dancing, interacting with the people around you – especially one guy wearing a mask and base cap, who danced incredibly well – not noticing how someone’s eyes were fixed on you.
The base-cap-guy paused when you first turned towards him but fell in with your dance shortly after, harmonizing perfectly with your style. You both improvised some hip-hop moves, but when the refrain came on, you faced each other mirroring the one in front of you.
After enjoying dancing with the base-cap-guy for a few more songs, you went back to Jin, gulping down your drink before telling him that you’re going to go to the toilet and get some fresh air afterwards. He just gave you a thumbs-up, too busy to actually reply at that moment.
Checking yourself in the mirror in the bathroom, you noticed how sweaty you actually were, making you laugh at yourself. You threw some water at your face, not really caring what you looked like since you weren’t out to impress anyone, to cool down a little. It was almost 3AM, you noticed, looking at your phone for a moment while leaving the room.
Explains why I’m slowly feeling tired…
“Nice dancing back there.” A male voice called out to you from behind. Slightly startled, you turned around to face him, trying to figure out if you knew the guy.
“Uh…Thanks?” you replied, a little bit confused but polite. Taking a closer look at him now, you were certain that you never met him before.
“How about you show me some more of those moves?” he asked, licking his lips while grabbing your hips slightly. You immediately swatted his hands away, taking a step back.
“No. And don’t touch me!” all alarm bells were ringing in your head. He grinned slightly and tried to hold you again. You were looking to your left, where you could see Jin being busy working. In your mind, you prayed he would notice – someone would notice. He grabbed you harshly again, making you look at him.
“Come on, baby. Don’t be shy.” You were about to reply when another hand pulled you back so that someone was standing right between you and the stranger. It was a man, a little bit taller than you, and after looking at his back for a moment, you recalled him as the base-cap-guy from before.
“She said ‘no’.” he said sternly, staring down the man who tried to touch you. Your eyes widened upon hearing him speak.
That voice….
You stared at the back of his head while the guy went away, cursing under his breath. The base-cap-guy was still holding onto your wrist while staring at the man leaving – just to make sure that he really was leaving.
“…. Park Jimin?” his whole body froze. It took a few moments of silence before he started pulling you to the big balcony of the club – used as a seating area in the warmer seasons. You let him drag you there, waiting for his response. As soon as you arrived at the railing of the balcony, he let go of your wrist and took off his mask. At first, he didn’t look at you, and you just waited until he was ready to talk.
“Sorry, I-“ he started, now turning to face you. “I didn’t want to hide who I am from you. It’s just that…”
“You wanted to tease me again?”
“No!”
“Then, are you sick?”
“What? No.”
“Then what is this all about, Jimin?”
“I’m embarrassed!” he suddenly exclaimed. You were taken aback. For a moment, you didn’t know what to say, before you tilted your head, scoffing.
“Why?”
“Why? Because my friends would start making fun of me if they knew I was coming here. I don’t want to deal with that so I just... wear a mask.” He leaned on the railing, looking into the distance. Somehow for the first time since you got involved with Jimin, you could relate to him 100%. So instead of teasing him about it, you chose to just be honest and vulnerable with him.
“I understand what you mean.” Jimin’s head turned to face you abruptly. Utter surprise was plastered on his face. “Don’t look at me like that. You’re not the only one with an image to uphold here.” You laughed a little at him before also leaning on the railing, mimicking his position. He slowly started facing the distance again.
“I guess we’re not that different after all.” Jimin replied, a soft smile playing on his lips.
“I guess not. Except for the gender part of course.” You both laughed a little at your comment. He let his head fall down while laughing, looking at you from the side after. There was a short pleasant silence between you. “But you really shouldn’t have to hide something you love. You seemed to really enjoy yourself back there. And you were good.”
“Was that a compliment just now?” he smirked at you, and you just nudged his shoulder with yours.
“Don’t get used to it.” You rolled your eyes. “But yes, that was a compliment. Honestly, I think that was the first time we ever really danced with each other. I mean yes, we do every practice, but this time we really danced with each other. And I’m not gonna lie to you – it was fun.”
“I had fun, too.” He admitted to you, making you look at him. He returned your look smiling for a moment before looking in the distance again. He sighed.
“Where did we go wrong?” Jimin expressed his inner thoughts, “I mean, why do we hate each other?” You continued to stare at his profile, your heart beating faster again. You never thought that he actually spent time thinking about this.
“I guess the first impression I left wasn’t the best, huh?” he added quietly.
“No, that’s not it…” you sighed while turning to face him completely now. “The very first impression I got of you was… amazing.”
“Oh… so you… like that kind of stuff?” Jimin looked at you smirking but furrowing his brows in confusion. He turned to face you completely too, laughing a little to himself. You smacked his chest while laughing.
“No! Idiot. I’m talking about way before that.” Turning to the railing to hold onto it while talking, you started remembering your last few years of high school. “The first time I saw you was in my second year of high school. It was the year of your graduation, and all the graduates prepared this special stage to entertain the school on their last day. When I saw you dance on that stage… god, I wanted to be up there with you so bad. Just dance my heart out to the music. It was incredible. That was actually the moment I chose to pursue dance as a career.”
He stared at you in disbelieve. You were at this university, pursuing dance, just because of him? He didn’t know what to say, feeling too overwhelmed with this information.
“But I guess you don’t remember me. We weren’t in the same grade anyways.”
“I do!” he startled you with his urgent-sounding answer, making you look at him in surprise immediately. “I do remember you. You were always dancing whenever we had a break, and you thought no one watched you. I’ve seen you do it a couple of times, and I wanted to talk to you so many times, but I… ugh.” Jimin looked away, embarrassed about his confession, scratching his neck. “I really wanted to become friends with you.” He mumbled quietly. You started smiling.
How ironic.
“I did too.”
“A-And that thing that happened at that party!! That girl was actually forcing a kiss on me… She was extremely drunk, and I pushed her off as soon as I could, but I didn’t want to hurt her so…. I guess it looked really weird. You can ask my hyungs if you don’t believe me! They saw everything.” You weren’t expecting him to try to explain that situation, but somehow it made you feel at ease. Back then, seeing your role model fool around with a girl like a playboy in a frat house, made you actually feel so sick that every time you saw him again, your whole stomach twisted.
“What I’ve been meaning to say. It wasn’t that thing at the party that made me ‘hate’ you back then. I mean, yes, it was a reason for me to lose some of the respect I held for you, but it wasn’t all that bad. No…. it was the expectations. Everyone started comparing us with each other, stating our pros and cons and debating about who is better. I hated that. At some point it made me almost lose my mind, practicing 24/7 just so I wouldn’t stand back.” You didn’t know why you were telling him all of this. Maybe it was because of the time. You once read somewhere that the 3AM version of a person was one of the most real, most vulnerable and honest versions you could ever experience. And the way you and Jimin talked right now made you wonder if maybe this was the only time you had a chance to fix your relationship.
“Yea. I get that. When people started comparing our skills like that, it annoyed the hell out of me. I guess we both projected our annoyance and anger at the wrong person, huh? I’m glad you told me. I actually always wondered what I did to make you so mad at me.” Jimin smiled at you, suddenly making up his mind and holding out his hand to you.
“How about we start over?” he asked cheerfully. You looked at his hand, confused for a second before smiling back at him and shaking his hand.
“You’re right. Let’s start over.”
He walked you to your dorm that evening – just to make sure you were arriving safely – wishing you a good night before turning around to go home. You stared at his back, thinking, before calling out to him.
“Yah, Park Jimin!” he turned around, smirking.
“What now, Y/L/N?”
“Thank you for saving me earlier…” a very happy grin spread on his face, making you blush in return.
“My pleasure.” He shouted back at you happily before continuing his walk home.
Cute… you thought while slowly making your way in the dorm.
The next day your sleep was rudely interrupted by your best friend ripping open the curtains. You started groaning, pulling the blanket over your head, but she was having none of it. Sam yanked your blanket out of your grasp.
“Oh no, stop groaning. It’s your own fault for going clubbing on a school night.”, she sat on the bed next to your body, patting your leg to make you stay awake. “Come on, class starts in less than an hour, and I know you’ll be grumpy if you don’t eat before that. Also, you have to explain to me why Park Jimin came around this morning to bring you your scrunchie.” Now you were awake. You sat up abruptly, making you dizzy and regret doing that.
“He did what?!”
Damn it, I forgot he was holding onto it while I buttoned up my flannel…
Sam had the most shit-eating grin on her face, reminding you too much of her endlessly teasing boyfriend Jungkook.
“So that’s how you ‘resolve your problems’ with Jimin, huh? How was he?” you looked at her surprised.
“You totally got the wrong idea! We did not do anything of that sort. What the hell, Sam?” you shoved her playfully while both of you laughed a little.
“So, then what happened? Come on, you know I won’t stop asking until you tell me.”
“Well…” so you told her everything that happened. How you guys danced, how he protected you, and how you talked until 5AM, ending with him bringing you home. Sam started squealing, completely excited. You just smiled like an idiot, rolling your eyes and getting up to get dressed.
“OHHH Y/N!! That’s so great, so there might still be a chance for the two of you??”
“Chance for what, Sam? It’s a start to maybe finally get along with each other. Nothing else. If you’re referring to that crush I had forever ago – that is history.” You tried convincing your roommate – and yourself.
You had no expectations at all when you entered the practice room that afternoon. However, you still found yourself surprised when Jimin suddenly greeted you with a small smile playing on his lips.
“Hey.”
“Hi…” you replied with a small smile yourself. Everyone that noticed your little exchange, stared at you guys in disbelief. Jimin got called over by one of his friends a moment later, but he still smiled at you for a moment before making his way over. Your eyes followed him before you looked at the ground, smiling to yourself and putting down your bag next to his. Some of the girls started whispering, and you could feel their eyes on you.
If looks could kill…
Jimin came jogging back to you a few minutes later.
“Do you wanna warm up together?” he asked you. You looked up at him, still crouching on the ground while taking out your water bottle from your bag.
“Sure.” You smiled at him before getting up to start the warmup. To say that this time the practice was a little better would be highly understated. It was a complete 180 change to before. Even your professor noticed the change in attitudes and praised you both for portraying the feelings of the choreography so well. You were both beaming with pride, smiling at each other, and thanking the professor for his compliments.
Maybe there really still is a chance… you caught yourself thinking while looking at how Jimin excitedly talked to his friends about how well the practice went today. You paused.
“What the hell are you thinking, Y/N….?” you whispered to yourself, shaking your head slightly.
After that, things with Jimin continued to get better and better. Your teamwork and the whole atmosphere of your dance improved every time, even making your professor believe you were actually in love at some point because of the great acting. Apart from the dance class, you and Jimin also started practicing alone almost every day, going to the K-Club right after to grab a drink and something to eat. You could almost say that you guys became friends. The only reason why you couldn’t call Jimin your friend yet was your own insecurity. You felt too insecure thinking about the mean things he said and always questioned if maybe some of those things he actually meant.
That was until one day.
You were at the risk of showing up too late for the dance practice because your boss at your part-time job insisted on you staying until your co-worker arrived. Running all the way there, you arrived just in time, but you paused at the cracked open door when you heard your name being said in a conversation.
“Y/N is not even that talented and still she gets to dance with Jimin. That’s really not fair to him. He gets dragged down because of her.” A sharp pain went through your heart.
Is that really what everyone is thinking?
“Right, she couldn’t even stick the landing right after the lift even though it’s such an easy one. And have you seen her-“ a loud bang could be heard, making you jump. Looking through the crack, your eyes found Jimin facing the two girls that just talked about you, and it seemed like he had thrown his bag right in front of them harshly.
“Don’t talk about things you have no clue about! None of you got the second-highest ranking at school last semester. It was her! How about you try to not act all snooty just because you’re jealous. It’s pathetic.” Jimin practically yelled at them at first, saying the last words quieter but just as sharp. The girls shut up immediately, looking down embarrassed. You felt relief spread through your whole body, tears gathering in your eyes.
Jimin...
Jimin started walking towards the door you were hiding behind. He opened it and saw you immediately, panicking about how much you heard.
“Y/N…” he breathed out surprised, but you just hugged him. Needing some time to process why you were acting this way, he started to hug you back. “Come on, you just made it in time. Professor Jung hasn’t arrived yet.” you let go of him, nodded, and went inside, starting to chat with him and everyone except for the still very quiet two girls.
“Now, now! Everyone quiet down!” your professor called out as he made his way into the room. You sat next to Jimin on the floor, looking expectantly at professor Jung.
“As you know, the show is in two days’ time. So that means the next 48 hours I want you to not get injured, practice some more with your partner, and especially get a good night of sleep before D-Day! The rehearsal will be at 11AM at the big theater, and the show will start at 5PM that afternoon. Don’t forget your costumes and props. For today, since everything already seems to go perfectly fine without me having to butt in, I only want you to practice the routines once more with everyone. I won’t tell you to practice individually – you have to decide that on your own. I’ll see you at the rehearsal, kiddos.”
And with that, he made his way out of the room. As told by your professor, you all rehearsed the whole piece a couple of times before everyone either started going home or decided to practice on their own.
Jimin and you also decided to practice some more, choosing a secluded practice room to fully concentrate. You both went all out with your emotions this time, fully playing the lovers in despair part. And as he was lifting you right at the beginning of your part, and hugging you close, you found yourself forgetting that this wasn’t real. The way he looked at you. The way he touched you. The way he held you. It all seemed so real. It made you feel loved, and in return it also made you feel love for him. But it wasn’t just the way he was dancing. His laugh, the way he talked when he was passionate about something, how his eyes disappeared when he started smiling brightly – all of this was the cause of the misery you found yourself in. You were falling for Park Jimin.
As the song ended, you both stood in position, facing each other and leaning your foreheads against each other. His hand grabbed your arm slightly as if he didn’t want to let go – which was part of the choreography. You both breathed hard from dancing so much, slowly opening your eyes to look at each other. Jimin was still looking at you full of love, and you couldn’t avoid completely losing yourself in his eyes. Both of you slowly started leaning in, eyes glancing at each other’s lips as suddenly ‘Shall we Dance’ started blasting through the music system. Both of you just started laughing while Jimin jogged to his phone to turn it off.
“I think we’re ready for the show. How about we both rest tomorrow so that we can start the rehearsal with full energy?” Jimin asked while disconnecting his phone from the music system. You needed a second to compose yourself before answering.
“Good idea. Sam asked me to finally go eat with her again anyway. Do you maybe want to come, too?” you blushed while adding the last question.
“Won’t I be a disturbance?”
“No, you would actually save me from sitting across her and Jungkook being all lovey-dovey throughout the whole meal. I mean, they will still do that, but then at least I’m not alone.” He started smirking.
“Oh, so I’m your boyfriend-substitute? Y/N, if you want to go on a date with me, you just have to ask.” He was teasing you, but you found yourself wishing he meant it.
“Haha, very funny.” You roll your eyes at him. “If you don’t want to come, I’ll just ask Jin-oppa if he wants to.” You shrug while packing your bag to leave the room, leaving Jimin behind who started panicking immediately.
“Wait! I didn’t mean it like that! Of course, I’m coming along. You need your savior right by your side in case someone wants to attack you again, and Jin-hyung won’t be of any help there. He’s a scaredy-cat.”
During your little double ‘date’ Jimin found himself wondering if that’s what it is like to be your boyfriend. He had been thinking about asking you out for a while, but because of your complicated history and how he messed up before, he didn’t want to risk his second chance with you too soon by making you uncomfortable with his real feelings for you. However, after that last practice, Jimin considered that maybe you wouldn’t be against a date with him. So, he made up his mind. After the show the next day he would ask you to go on a date with him.
“We’re gonna go to JKs place for a movie night. I’ll see you tomorrow, okay? Don’t wait up for me.” Sam winked at you while telling you this, walking next to you – arms intertwined.
“So, you’re off to bang with your boyfriend instead of spending the one free evening your best friend has with her? So much loyalty…” you said dripping with sarcasm.
“Hey, it’s not my fault you don’t get any. But maybe he can help you with that.” Sam nodded her head in Jimin’s direction, who was walking a few steps ahead of you next to Jungkook, talking excitedly with him about something. You hit her shoulder.
“Stop saying stuff like that!” you exclaimed in a whiny voice a little bit too loud while Sam just started laughing. The boys stopped, waiting for you two and looking at you questioningly. You just waved them off.
“It’s nothing.” You blushed, not being able to look at Jimin. He nodded, accepting the fact that you don’t want to say it, and you were more than thankful for that. Sam and Jungkook said their goodbyes to you shortly after, and you watched them go – her clinging onto his arm while leaning her head on his shoulder for a moment and him looking at her with eyes full of love right after. Jimin noticed your look, eyeing your profile attentively.
“You okay?” he asked you.
“Yea, it’s just…” you smiled. “I’m really happy she found someone that makes her comfortable just being herself.” Jimin couldn’t help the smile that was spreading on his lips, looking at you the same way Jungkook looked at Sam.
“You will find someone like that, too. Maybe he’s even closer than you think.” You heard his voice, making you turn your head to face him slowly.
Is he referring to… no, it can’t be.
“Or she. If you’re in that chapter.” He shrugged, teasing you again, and you just nudged his shoulder.
“Idiot.” He caught your hand near his shoulder and naturally just intertwined your fingers with his while starting to walk again. You looked at your hand in his for a moment until you were walking next to him instead of being pulled behind. It felt so normal, you didn’t even second guess his action.
“So, what do you want to do tonight? The club? Netflix and chill?” Jimin asked, smirking at the last option, and you just rolled your eyes.
“The club sounds good. But don’t you need to go grab your mask before?” you asked him genuinely. “We can go by your dorm to get it. It’s a detour but I don’t mind it.”
“No, I think” he looks down at your hands intertwined, squeezing yours for a moment before he continues. “I’m done hiding.”
The next morning you got up earlier than usual. Jimin and you didn’t spend a long time in the club, knowing that you both had to be at the theater at 11AM sharp the next morning. So, you called it a night early and parted ways after he brought you home, holding your hand all the way. You looked at your hand, recalling the events of the night before and couldn’t help but squeal happily in your pillow while kicking in the air out of happiness.
Does that mean he actually likes me, too?? I can’t believe it!
You got ready for the rehearsal, humming ‘Shall we dance’ and feeling completely on cloud nine. When you arrived at the theater, Jimin was already there, greeting you immediately with a wave and a call of your name. He was sitting on the edge of the stage, jumping from it immediately to come jogging to you to help you with all the stuff you carried – having taken your costume plus props for Sam with you, who was going to perform that day as well.
“Did you sleep well?” he asked you, and you nodded, smiling.
“I did. You?”
“I actually had real troubles falling asleep. I’m really nervous.” He laughed a little showing his nervousness. “But I’m already feeling better, seeing you here now.” You blushed a little at that, not expecting him to be so direct right in front of everyone else.
“If you say stuff like that people might think we’re together…” you said, acting really shy now.
“But it’s the truth.” Jimin started frowning at you. “Does people thinking we’re together bother you?”
“I mean, yea, but it’s just-“ you were interrupted by the call of your professor to get into positions. Jimin looked at you in surprise before he turned to go up the stairs of the stage reluctantly.
Shit…
You followed him right after, trying to talk to him one more time, but for the next hour, there wasn’t any chance for you two to have a private conversation.
I’ll try to talk to him on the break. Or so you thought. Jimin didn’t give you any chance of talking to him, immediately meeting up with his friends after rehearsal, and when his eyes landed on you for a second before he left, your whole body froze in shock. He looked so hurt. Your heart was aching.
I messed up. Desperate to fix the misunderstanding, you went to talk to Sam, asking her for help. Of course, she told you to just talk to Jimin, but when you explained how he’s been avoiding you ever since, your best friend started thinking.
“How about I try to distract his friends after the show so that you have time to talk to him? Jungkook is good friends with them, and if I tell him about the situation he’ll surely help.”
“Thank you, Sam.” You hugged her, grateful for having a friend you could count on.
“Okay, but now we have to get prepped for the show. It’s almost 4PM.”
(to fully experience the following scene, I recommend you watch this amazing choreography by Kyle Hanagami. I used it as a reference )
You were feeling nervous. And it wasn’t because of the show starting in less than 10 minutes. No, it was because Jimin still refused to talk to you. One thing was for sure, you guys didn’t have to act the lovers in despair now. All the panic, desperation, and hope you were feeling that moment made you understand the feelings of this choreography first hand. Your relationship transformed from respect, to hate, to sympathy, to friendship, and now to this in such a short time, but you didn’t care anymore about how he acted before. You knew what you felt for him. And the way he acted now made you hope that he felt the same way. Which meant that fixing your mistake was the highest priority now.
The music started playing. You and Jimin were one of the pairs coming into the picture later, so you waited on one side of the stage while he stood on the opposite one. When the first group part came on, you both ran on stage dancing together. The feelings were overwhelming. Both of you poured your heart into it, and when your specific part came on, and you had to jump into his arms, your whole heart called out his name, yearning for him. Tears were collecting in your eyes. You didn’t want to lose him over a misunderstanding like this. Slowly over the last few weeks, he became a part of your life that you just didn’t want to miss anymore. As you took your last position – his forehead on yours and his hand softly holding onto your arm – you took the chance to whisper to him.
“It bothers me because it’s not true.” His grip tightened on your arm, indicating for you that he heard you. The light-props you were using slowly got turned off by each couple. Yours was the second to get turned off, leaving you more freedom to change positions without everyone noticing. He lifted his head slightly to look at you. You looked up at him, locking eyes with him and seeing the same desperate hope you had in your eyes.
“I love you.” You breathed out, whispering in a voice filled with despair. “I don’t-“ want to lose you. You wanted to add, but he had other plans. With the last light turning off and leaving the stage in pure darkness, he leaned down and kissed you. All the suppressed emotions of the last years aggregated in that one kiss. You responded to the kiss immediately, not even noticing when the lights turned back on, and people started whistling at you two. Finally breaking the kiss at one very loud whistle – made by one of Jimin’s friends – you started blushing like crazy. Jimin just smiled at you, and as the attention was on you both anyways, he decided to just do what he wanted to do all this time.
“I LOVE Y/N Y/L/N!!!” he yelled out, bending backwards a little and throwing his head back while still holding onto you with both hands. You looked at him shocked, while everyone started cheering. He grinned at you satisfied and proud of his action while you just couldn’t help feeling embarrassed – in the best way, of course. You started laughing and hitting his chest lightly while he hugged you tightly.
The remaining show went really well, and you both got so many praises by people, even telling you they actually got all teary-eyed watching you dance. Of course, your professor wasn’t too keen about your little make-out-session on stage, but he just dismissed it with a “Glad you finally sorted out your differences”.
When you thought back to that night at the club where you first really talked, you couldn’t help but thank the odds that brought you together at such a ridiculous time.
Who would’ve thought that all it took was a 3AM talk for the both of you to finally find to each other?
