A job that I freely admit I've been putting off for at least two years: spending four hours cleaning up these masters to make a specific mould for the Troopers Officer. Done at last but two weeks before Salute is the worst time to be doing it...

I forget how awesome some of the miniatures are because I normally only ever see them in pieces once they're moulded and cast up. Fortunately Steve Wingate has painted most of the range up so I can get them out once a year for Salute and remind myself that actually I'm OK at this sculpting malarkey...

Rare day at home. First one in 4 weeks! Working on a Big Boris III for the 15th Birthday of Heresy next month. Sculptors will no what I mean when I say the first four hours were spent working through the Circle Of Posing Options. Eventually realising that all options were equally cool and therefore going back to the first one. The first Armoured Boris used the same pose as the regular BB1, and I was going to do that with this one but in the end the voices said not to. Actually uses a Big Boris III casting as the Base, and wowee, when you put armour over the top it really shows up how massive Boris has gotten over the 15 years! Pretty much full on Ogre but with smaller head, hands and feet. May well go for broke and go full Skullz on the armour just to keep him looking like a big 28mm scale character instead of a 40mm one. Deliberately not showing you a close up at this stage.

Man, I hate doing chains. So why do I keep choosing to make them? Even Giant-sized chains are super fiddly and time consuming. #Mucklegeet #Giant #HeresyMiniatures #rotm

This pic is just to reassure Kenny Cannon that I have not forgotten the Deathball Ogres.

Not entirely sure about the back fat ripples but will come back to them later.

Blocking in a bit of armour for the arm. I figure someone kitted him out for their army at some point and he's managed not to lose all of the stuff.

Revisions always ongoing. No particular reason why I used greenstuff other than that I had some spare from working on something else. #Mucklegeet #Giant #HeresyMiniatures

Doing new arms in Beesputty over a sturdy Procreate armature to stop the BP from carving itself off the wire as I work on it. It'll do that with the thin wire that I'm using. Have blocked in muscles and will refine them so that they are on the 'powerful but not gym-fresh' spectrum. Then I'll bake them before adding some decoration in Procreate or Greenstuff and cutting them for casting. The victim that he'll be about to eat will be last. Well, that and the weapon for his left arm, which for now may be a tree with a boulder tied to it, although I dislike the cliché of that. Maybe a crude hammer instead. #mucklegeet #giant #rotm #heresyminiatures #ReturnOfTheMonsters

Replacing the insides of the mouth, the hair and eyes with Procreate as I just find it easier to work with for fine detail. Better hardness than green stuff, but I'll be using that too.

Both feet and shins got utterly buggered during the cutting, crushed by my clumsiness, mainly. Also I think I cooked up and used both low temp Beesputty and the higher temp Beesputty Xtra 140, so the x140 bits were underbaked and crumbly. Replacing with Procreate for strength, but not as fun to sculpt with due to superquick hardening time.

Replacing areas of damaged Beesputty with Procreate as I go. More resilient to my heavy handling and constant dropping. I love BP for getting the bulk of the model done but am still falling back on beloved epoxies for fine details.

Mucklegeet, the first Heresy Giant is now in three parts so far, with torso and both legs separated for casting purposes. The cutting process wrecked a lot of the work that I had done so far but years of this happening on the Dragon meant that it was entirely unconcerning for me; redoing huge areas time and again is almost second nature for me now. I should be much more bothered about it, or course, as Mucklegeet was supposed to be finished this week!

Baking the Giant as it's reached the point where I can't work on him without holding him. I should have made a much sturdier armature with rods and clamps and stuff! Here he is in the halogen oven - good job I bought an extension ring as he totally needed it to fit in the oven!

Apologies to any vegetarians but I'm really pleased with how this lattice of smoked bacon worked out. Still got one hour of cooking to go. Pretty bloody hungry at this point.

I Jamie Olivered this turkey but realised that I didn't have any of the correct herbs and things and I couldn't get the butter to spread so it all went a bit 'eh, fuck it' and I just emptied a few random jars of spices out of the cupboard and rammed sausages into all available crevices. Luckily I was already a bit drunk so it's bound to be fine. Merry Christmas everyone!

This poor insane wretch is now in production for the Kickstarter backers. #TheTunnelDweller will come to pre-order shortly as he takes a lot less time to cast than expected. Pictured with one of the several head options that come with the kit. #ReturnOfTheMonsters #rotm #HeresyMiniatures
