It's so frustrating having to deal with a bunch of weak-minded horndogs that are so distracted by Bertholdt looking hot (at least to them) that they start justifying their attraction to him because they think it's wrong to be attracted to a pure evil character that they find hot. They start painting him as this poor abused victim child soldier and get pissed off when anyone reminds them that Bertholdt is canonically a narcissistic, gaslighting sociopath. His "who would want to murder people" spiel to Jean and Connie wasn't in any way a proof of him feeling remorse. It was an attempt to manipulate them, plain and simple. And note that even in his "It hurts me so mu-uch when I hit you" speech he never once admits any responsibility for his actions, instead painting himself as a victim. He was the only one of the warriors who was fully on board with the genocide plan. He was the one who forced Reiner to continue their parth of genocide. He, unlike Reiner, didn't cry when they broke the wall Maria. He was the only one of the Warriors who didn't cry when they killed Marco. He forced Reiner to kidnap Eren and Ymir. Even in his short story where it's revealed he has nightmares, he's displaying zero guilt for his sins, instead wanting to fly away from the consequences of his actions. Bertholdt is the only one of the warriors who is truly, irredeemably evil and vile. He's the only one without remorse for his actions, the only one fully dedicated to the genocide plan and fully on board with it. He murders thousands of people without and never ever once shows even a twinge of guilt for his actions. Pure, irredeemable evil, this is what Bertholdt is to the core. If you want to love Bertholdt so much, at least love him for the vile sociopath he is instead of portraying him as some remorseful uwu softboi.
