It's a shame how many people consider themselves animal lovers but hate any wild animal they personally interact with. I'm talking folks who love the idea of far away animals, pretty pictures of tigers and whales, but any creature they may actually see in their day to day life is viewed only ever as a problem. I can't think of one species of urban wildlife that isn't seen as a pest more often than not. The wolf is beloved to the person who will never see one in nature, but the coyote is a dirty varmint. These two animals are far, far more similar to one another than they are different. One just dares to exist near us.

So many of the critters that take up residence in human homes are simply species that are cave-adapted. Spiders. Crickets. Millipedes. Isopods. Bats. Your house is a cave to them and they think you are also a cave-adapted organism.

National Geographic: Rest and Recovery (2024)
Before leaving the field camp, the research team transfers the bats to large tents where they are free to fly. As part of the protocol, says a caretaker, "we give them a little mango juice."

You can tell if someone's actually pro intersex liberation by seeing their reaction to the phrase "abolish the sex binary" Yes I said sex. Like biological sex. It's not binary.
