“Yeah, I do” he nodded. He felt both like a weight had been lifted off his chest, but also one was put right back, because now he knew she returned his feelings. And he couldn’t just leave it there. He noticed her leaning closer to him and moved his hand to rest on her cheek. “I don’t want to picture it” he said quietly, brushing his thumb over her cheek before leaning in and tentatively pressing his lips to hers.

He noticed her cheeks going a little redder than usual and he felt his heart pick up. No, they certainly weren’t in school anymore. It was very different now.
Then he felt like his heart was going to stop altogether. She liked him. But not just as a friend, at least that’s what her tone suggested. “I- I don’t feel the same way I did in school” he said, and very cautiously rested his hand on her knee, turning a little more towards her. “I like you too Con. Honestly at this point I don’t want to imagine my life without you”
“You…? You do?” She asked, not sure why she was lowering her voice but feeling his heart picking up a bit when he placed his hand on her knee. “Me neither” she admitted, looking up at him, noticing his handsome face being too close. “I…” she mumbled, getting lost in the color of his eyes. Unconsciously, she licked her lips, leaning a bit more closer to him. “I can’t picture my life without you in it…”

Ben shrugged “I don’t know, I find it kind of comforting, all the noise. But that’s youngest child growing up in a big family for you” he chuckled.
He sat down on the sofa and put his plate down next to hers and leant back on the sofa, relaxing into the couch and taking in the view. She squeezed his arm and he smiled, noticing that they were in private. Things had felt different between them for a while, but he wasn’t sure if it was just him. “I know, I just want you to know how much it means to me” he said, his voice softer than usual. Should he say something. He had to, if he didn’t it’d kill him “These past few months have been hard, but you’ve made it so much easier. You know, every day I’ve found myself enjoying it here more and more. But it’s not just the country, and getting back to school. It’s been you, Con. I really enjoy spending time with you. More than I used to.”
Connie grinned at what he said and sat down, setting her plate down and crossing her legs carefully not to kick the table.
Ben started speaking and she noticed how something had changed in the atmosphere. How his tone had softened and so did his expression. Connie didn’t just listen, but she saw, she paid attention to the details.
You’ve made it so much easier.
I really enjoy spending time with you. More than I used to.
She felt her heart starting to beat faster. Now she was nervous and giddy and she wasn’t sure what to expect. Things had changed between them during the past months, or at least for her.
“I… I’m really happy that you are here with me” she said quietly but sincerely, looking down from his face to his hands, feeling her cheeks heating up. “I know that things had been different at school but…” she trailed and swallowed with difficulty. “We are not at school any more and I… I like you” she said, hoping that he understood what she meant by like.

“He was sent to London when he was ten?” Ben’s eyes widened a little, course he went to live with his dad, but leaving his country, surely there would have been someone to look after him. “Bloody hell thats rough” he shook his head, following her up the stairs. “Well I can see why he would, this place is pretty awesome. And your Mum is lovely” he grinned as they got to the landing.
“It is. And now look at us, If you hadn’t moved to England and gone to Hogwarts, I wouldn’t be here, I honestly don’t know what I’d be doing.” he shook his head. “I know I’ve told you a million times, and I know you know, but I really appreciate you taking me in Con”
“Yeah, my grandparents didn’t want to raise him… he was also a bastard in their eyes” she shrugged and then nodded. “Oh, yeah, I love this city… it has a special charm” she smiled fondly. “And I won’t disagree with that… though she can be a bit nosy sometimes” she said, not unkindly.
She smiled rather bashfuly at his whole explanation and then shook her head as she walked into her bedroom and towards the balcony that had a wooden sofa with comfortable pillows and a coffee table. “Ben, you are my best friend… I could’ve never turned my back on you” she said softly, squeezing his arm gently before placing her plate on the table. She suddenly realized that it was just the two of them and noticed how her heart started beating a bit faster.

“It was uh… hard for my dad” she shrugged. “He lived in Argentina until he was ten, not knowing who his father was until his mother died and he was sent to London” she explained as she started climbing up the stairs. “My grandfather had a wife and a daughter who didn’t make his life easy” she said, not sure why she hadn’t told him the story before. “After Hogwarts he went travelling around the world and writing music until he met my mum here in New Orleans and decided to stay here” she shrugged before biting a piece of bread.
She then smiled at what he said. “That’s true” she agreed. Connie, while as friendly as she was, had never had too many friends. At school it was mostly him and Maven.

“Well, no one knows what’s going on in that head of yours lately” she teased. “And mum never thinks people eat enough, not even Nick… you should’ve seen her the last time Frank came over” she snickered. “Great, I’m starving as well… been all day in class, I barely ate” she shook her head and passed him the menu. “Make your pick, I’ll have the number four and two portions of egg rolls” she said knowingly.
“Hey what’s that supposed to mean?” he laughed, “I’m not some idiot teenager” he rolled his eyes at her and took a seat on her couch, “Thats true. Honestly I’m surprised that our entire family isn’t obese. Though we are pretty active with all the quidditch and training you aurors do” he said, taking the menu and looking at it “Uhh, an egg roll, number eight, and a number six”

Ben loved looking around, especially if it was someone’s childhood home, it was always so telling of them as a person.
“It would have been hard for him to” Ben mused, going to visit your bastard sons family in another country, traditional pure blood families would have had none of that behaviour, he wasn’t surprised that Connie hadn’t seen him much, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t unfortunate. “Well at least when you moved to London it meant that we got to meet” he smiled.

“Ah gotcha. I’ll keep all questions about touring and things to an absolute minimum” he grinned. “Or at least I’ll try” he chuckled, nudging Connie with his elbow, she knew he was a big fan.
“Really?” Ben asked, he hadn’t known that extent, but he understood. The really old and sometimes extremist Pure blood families were crazy about things like heirs and bastards. “He left him everything?” He raised his eyebrows a little. “Yeah they don’t seem like they’d be full of laughs”
Connie chuckled. “Yeah, he’ll appreciate it” she grinned as she guided him through the house. It had a mixture of french and spanish style, it was colorful, but not too much. Each room was large with plenty of space, there were windows with courtains and plants in almost every single room. It was similar to her old home in London, but the one in England didn’t fit the british aesthetic, this one did fit the New Orleans one.
“Yup” she nodded as she took a small tart and nibbled it carefully. “Yeah… it turns out my grandmother was sort of my grandfather’s love of his life and he thought it was the only way to make amends with him for being absent when he was a kid or whatever…” she shrugged. “At least that what my dad says” she added. “I never really knew him, he came here to New Orleans just three times on ten years… then when we moved to London he was already sick” she said simply. “Yeahh, they are weird” she agreed, scrunching up her nose.

“I would get Willa to help out. But unfortunately Mar has like a sixth sense for when someone is lying. She’d know.” He sniggered. His confidence was something that was probably genetic, all his siblings were so confident it was hard not to pick up the same sentiment. Though when he was younger he had been a little more timid, now he thought he just had to put his mind to something. And planning parties was in his blood.

“You know, that is actually a great question” she laughed, shaking her head slowly. “Well, yes, I wouldn’t want you getting sick” she grinned.
“Yeah, I’ll give you the full tour of the house as well” she said and gestured for him to follow her. “Nah, there’s so many people in here that they won’t notice it… dad might join us eventually” she snickered as she walked away from there.
“No exactly. I’ve got far too much going on to be sick. Especially from something that sounds like it might be purposely poisoned” he laughed.
“Yeah? Awesome I want to see it all. See where you grew up” He smiled, following her, having a look around down the hall as they walked. “Likes to slip away from the party as well? Is this some Sewlyn family thing I should know about?”

“Ugh, yes, I knew she was going to bake these” she said happily as she took the box and the butterbeer. “Ah, now you are spoiling me” she grinned and then gestured for him to follow her. “What do you want to eat? Pizza, Chinese, some junk food?” She asked as she walked to the kitchen.
“Practically shoved them at me five times to make sure I remembered to bring them. Thinks you need to eat more. But thats just Mum, she always does. You should hear her at dinner sometimes, doesn’t think any of her kids are eating properly. Maybe except Nick. But thats because he’s a proper grown up and has to feed kids proper dinner too” he shrugged, standing up and following Mar into the apartment. “Oh Chinese for sure. I’m starving”

He didn’t know any of Ben’s siblings all that well, but they seemed very nice, though maybe not as nice as Ben. “Cool. I’d ask my sister Belle, but she probably wouldn’t do it and laugh at me for being too young to buy alcohol in the first place.” He shrugged. His sisters were great, but they thought he was a lot younger than he was for some reason, despite being only a year older than him. “But yes, next year we’ll start throwing parties and they’ll be amazing.”
“Well then maybe don’t ask her” Ben laughed. “I think Mar might have some sort of that sentiment, but she’d still get it for us. If we ask nicely. Probably make me do her washing or something for a week in return” he rolled his eyes. “They will be. The food will be amazing, the perks of being in the kitchens. Plus it’s us two. Who could do better?” he grinned.

“How can you mess it up to the point of almost poisoning people when you’re following a recipie?” He asked with a laugh. “Thank you for the warning though. I’ll steer clear of it” he chuckled. Watching as she put more food on his plate.
“The Balcony? Yeah okay sounds good” he nodded, he wanted to explore the house a little bit too. “No, if you’re happy to go to your balcony i am. We’re not going to get in trouble are we?”
Blue moon | 1980 | Con&Ben AU
benny-boy-mckinnon:
“Pile it high and then go hide. Sounds like events back home when Mum cooked. But that was just because she’d get angry if she saw you with all the food. But it was just so good you couldn’t help yourself” he smiled at the memory, he’d give anything to go back to that. He took the plate from her and followed her lead, taking a bit of everything on the table, about to serve himself some of the Gumbo when she warned him. “What- Oh” he laughed “and nobody’s got the guts to say anything?” He grinned, putting the spoon back down and getting some more of another food. Everything looked so good, he wasn’t even sure what some of it was. “So where are we going to scurry off to?”
Connie smiled at him and briefly rested her head against his shoulder, knowing that it was probably hard for him being in situations like this. “Yeah, that’s pretty much the same here… but you also have to add some racist relatives” she said, rolling her eyes disapprovingly.
“She just tries to make nana’s recipe but always ends up messing it up… last time me and dad ended up in bed rest for almost a week. She doesn’t know how to handle the spices” she explained. “Well… she’s very sensitive about it” she said, making a face before taking some home made bread and put some in her plate and then on Ben’s, knowing that he would like it.
“Well, if we want to see the fireworks later tonight, we should go to my balcony” she said. Her bedroom had a balcony with a clear view to the garden but also the city, it was her favorite part of the house. “Unless you prefer to stay here, of course” she said quickly.

Marlene was delighted when Ben owled her, she loved to have her brothers around and ever since her kidnap, she cherished the family time more than ever. Things had changed for her, obviously she wasn’t the same, but she was trying to get her life back together. She had changed her job, she was no longer a full time auror, she was now helping Aurors in the Academy and her goal was to become a full time professor. Of course she still helped in missions and raids if they needed people, but that wasn’t very often. Now her life was more stable and for once, she was glad.
SHe had just finished correcting half of the exams when she heard the knocks on the door. Hazel barked excitedly but Dorian didn’t even move. Marlene, however, grinned as she headed towards the door. “Awww, look at you” she chuckled and pulled him into a hug. “You need to work on your confidence” she snorted, rolling her eyes playfully as she closed the door behind them. Hazel immediately approached to Ben and started sniffing him as she wagged her tail happily.
Ben grinned and hugged his sister back, he really missed her. Sunday brunches weren’t enough. “No I think I’ve got my confidence down pat by now” he laughed, crouching down and giving Hazel a good scratch “Hey girl” he smiled down at her, Then lifted up the box of cookies “From Mum, with love” he said, and then handed her the butterbeers “And these are from me. Because we’re sharing”

“What?” She asked, widening her eyes and feeling her cheeks heat up furiously. “I don’t… I don’t have the hots for Maven… for anyone!” She protested, taking s drink of her butterbeer just because she needed to do something before dying of embarrassement.
“No?” Ben asked, raising an eyebrow at his friend. He could see her cheeks going pink and he knew that his suspicions were being confirmed. “I don’t know Con, I’m just saying” he shrugged, he loved teasing her, she had the best reactions.

“Right, curious” she said, giving him a look before blushing furiously. “What the hell is that suppose to mean?” She asked, quickly looking away to find her butterbeer.
“Oh shut up” he rolled his eyes. What he hadn’t revealed was that he was actually planning on asking her to Hogsmede in their next class, he was still working up the courage and he was scared that Connie would make him go over then and there. “It means I’m waiting for you and Maven to cut the crap”
