Overtaking in the pit lane is strictly forbidden. That is for good reason. This is a bad afternoon for motorsport safety, between this and the motorbikes.

I, hands down, agree with everyone claiming that the events surrounding Lestappen are like something straight out of a fanfic (a very well-written one, might I add) because the build-up to this Las Vegas finish has been so beautifully crafted as if it actually came from an enthusiastic author’s mastermind. Reality is always so jumbled, whereas fiction usually has a more consistent build-up (or does it), and I’m still in absolute awe.
It is a massive chain of events, a long row of dominoes tumbling down, and the starting piece may or may not have been Red Bull’s initiative to bring Lestappen into the forefront. It was them first, then (as others have pointed out several times) Ferrari being forced to react, then them being proactive. And then the official F1 accounts jumped in on the fun as well. More and more posts of the two of them, commentators highlighting them and their debriefs, the uprising of the terms “Maxplaining” and “Leclerifying”. And slowly, but surely it has finally reached the press and journalists as well by the time Vegas rolled around.
Suddenly we are getting joint interviews, for one. The guy asking Max about the driver standing behind him knew was he was doing. He could’ve easily just asked what Max thought about Charles’ quali pace, but instead he made sure to make Max aware of Charles’ presence. It’s like he initiated the entire joint interview, not Max – he made Max reactive and one thing led to another. Then suddenly we are getting karting-related questions which is resulting in a bunch of nostalgia and reminiscing of old times. Through the increase of Lestappen posts by official media pages, the journalists know they’ve discovered a gold mine, and with one single question they are able to draw entire speeches out of Max and Charles. They’ve been asked about each other before, of course, but interviewers are now handling them as a unit, not two separate drivers whose only relation is that they race in the same sport.
Life has a funny way of weaving life stories because all the Lestappen engagement has actually led to a proper on-track battle between the two – brief as it has been. We only have one race left so what is the climax going to be? Am I going to feed into my delusions, and say… a possible announcement? The season (the story, or chapter) is nearing its end, and there has to be some kind of resolution to it. With this beautifully smooth build-up, there has to be something, there’s no way they’ll leave us high and dry.

Reblogging only for Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Pink Floyd) - which is stupidly PERFECT for this edit by the way.
My version of Lestappen 🫶🏻
