I would like to tell everyone about the chronicles of my horse acquisition in my newest playthrough of RDR2
I wanted the black American standardbred so I went out first thing and found one (before I had access to the stables, like a fool) and I ended up just riding him sadle-less long enough to get fully bonded to him. I then accidentally launched him off of a cliff and he got down and I had no horse reviver so I had to run all the way to Valentine. Unfortunately, it was nighttime, so I had to wait until morning to get my reviver. He was still on my map though, so I rode all the way back and got him up and he was fine.
But THEN
I did the mission with Hosea that unlocks the stables and when I got done, my horse was gone :(
I accepted this information with much sadness but carried on playing.
When I ended up in Big Valley again at one point, I decided to get another black standardbred. He was kind of a pussy and I didn't really like him but he was fine enough.
Well I was up by Bacchus station and got attacked by wolves, as one does. Horsie ran away, as they do. He ended up on the train tracks but I was fully confident that he would be fine. So I started skinning the wolves but then I heard a train go by. I stopped and went to go check on Horse and saw that his marker was on the tracks but he wasn't downed or anything so I thought he was somehow okay. I was wrong. He got hit and instantly died, leaving me stranded with no horse all the way up by Bacchus station.
I then wandered up to the witch hut and drank the bad soup and when I woke up after, a temporary horse was there (I didn't know at the time that the game would give you a temp horse if you didn't have one out) so I assumed that I had been blessed by the gods and given this new horse: Strange Horse.
Strange Horse and I wondered back down the mountains towards Butcher's Creek, as I was trying to hunt a beaver. We get down towards the beaver spot and get ambushed by Murfrees on the trail, who shoot and kill Strange Horse. I am now horseless again.
Just a bit further down the road, I get ambushed again and I get killed. When I spawn in, there he is: Strange Horse. I am relieved and elated.
I stable Strange Horse to keep him safe and take out the Tennessee Walker the game gives you in Colter and ride him for a little while before buying the Dutch Warmblood in Valentine. He's a good enough horse, if not a bit cowardly.
Out in Big Valley again later and find the black standardbred again. He is beautiful and I cannot resist him. I tame him and immediately make my way towards Strawberry to stable him. I am ambushed by O'Driscolls and they kill him immediately (like literally just outside Big Valley, I barely made it a more than a few hundred feet out). I am devastated. I finally take it as my sign to abandon my pursuit of my beautiful boy.
My Warmblood (Arizona) and I traverse all over the map but I am not 100% satisfied with him. My sibling suggests I get the perlino Andalusian and I agree.
I go out to find him. I do not. It's takes me like five in game days to get his ass to spawn and he throws me like twice while I'm trying to tame him but eventually, he is acquired. Again, I don't love him but he works fine.
I decide, against my better judgement, to take Arizona out to attempt the Horseman 9 challenge as Arthur. Unsurprisingly, when I eventually make it to Blackwater, Arizona is gunned down in the streets. I knew it was going to happen but still, I am saddened.
I head over to Strawberry to check out their horses and buy the Thoroughbred. She is the most skittish horse I have ever fucking owned, I swear to god. I hate her. I'm back to riding my perlino Andalusian for now.
And that is my horse chronicles. One missing black standardbred, two dead black standardbreds, a horse gifted to me by the gods, a dead warmblood, an Andalusian who tests my patience, and a dumbass thoroughbred whom i hate very much :')
I miss my few spot appaloosa from my last playthrough but I'm trying to switch it up this time
