It had felt weird to see Lena after all this time. The memories of their party ways coming to the forefront of her brain and the fun times they had when the world was at their fingertips. She had missed the girl and was glad that they were in the same town again and hopefully for more than just a little while. "You look hot as well as always. I mean I thought I was seeing a movie star when you walked in but I guess that's what LA does to you." She pulled back and smiled. "Oh no I'm here for the long haul. I moved in with my aunts for the time being until I get a place. You living here now or? What have you been up to? Give me all the details." Calina moved behind the counter again and grabbed what she had remembered to be a favorite of the girls and putting it in front of her.

The Tipsy Whale had started to become an every other night kind of ordeal. Half Moon Bay a little too small for her liking, but Lena was giving this whole sticking around thing a try for the sake of Lale, per the request of Ben. Already it was getting a little too cozy for her liking, wanting to activate her flight and take off back to Los Angeles. Thankfully she had the city for photoshoots from time to time as a breathe of fresh air. She'd grown somewhat used to people calling her name with such familiarity, but was surprised to find Calina of all people the source. "Calina--holy shit." A blast from the actual past. "I'm--you look amazing--recovering from shock right now, literally. Don't tell me this is one of your spontaneous summer visits? Actually...oh God...don't tell me I'm actually back in school and I'm just on summer break right now and you're here..."

This was not how the reunion in her head was supposed to go. She knew that it wasn't ever going to be a fairytale for them but a part of her hoped and prayed that one day they would somehow find themselves in each other's paths again. Though, now that it was a reality, she felt an immense amount of guilt. Guilt for leaving him with little explanation as to why. Guilt for the child that she carried for nine months and then spent nine years with that he had no idea about. Guilt for breaking his heart when all she wanted to do was save him. No matter her reasoning, guilt was all that she felt now that she had seen him again.
Her hand moved to her stomach - a nervous tick that she developed during pregnancy and it felt like the ground was moving beneath her. Maybe she was dreaming. Maybe this was not real and she would wake up in her bed like nothing ever happened. It's not like she hadn't ever had this dream before because she had but this time was so different. Her breathing evened out after a few minutes and she felt her body move toward the wall on instinct, her back hitting against it. She was now very thankful that she didn't bring their daughter along.
"What - what are you doing here?" Did he live there now? Is this where he had been all this time? She vaguely remembered him mentioning growing up but it never dawned on her that he would return, just like how she didn't imagine herself being there either. "You look good." She shouldn't but the words slipped past her lips before she could stop it.

Foster was well past due for a grocery trip. Despite working with food on a daily basis, he'd never been too good at looking after himself and he could only stretch the final dregs of frozen meals for so long... It wasn't that he hated shopping, but there was a certain routine of putting together the list, and then inevitably forgetting at least three items on said list that had him procrastinating to the last possible moment. He'd passed that last night, when the only edible things left was a hot pocket that had been in the freezer when he moved in.
It was a pointless exercise, but he still went through the motions of making a grocery list of his phone, checking it over one more time in the parking lot, distracting himself just enough to walk right into the path of another. "Fuck," he said on instinct, hand coming out to the other's elbow to steady them both. "Sorry, are you—" The word died in his throat as he saw who it was — someone he'd never expected to see again, much less here.
"Okay..." The end of his question drawled out slowly, seeming as if it was almost its own independent thought. Like, 'okay, guess we live in this fucked up reality now' or 'okay, I think I need to leave right the fuck now.' "Um..." What else do you say to the woman who dropped you with barely a word? He understood, suddenly, why Sanem had been so awkward.

closed starter for @foster-matty location: somewhere in town 25 missed calls. That's not counting the ones from the last few days either. Her parents - or more so her mother - was relentless but when she left, she decided that she was done. She couldn't handle the immense amount of pressure put not only on herself but her child and that was where she drew the line. Taking whatever belongings she could fit into her car and headed cross country to the one safe haven that she had was the best decision that she could have made. But now that she was there, she felt lost again. It was scary to start over but she had Keelin to help guide her and that meant more than she could ever express. She had been running around town trying to get the things that she and her daughter would need that she had forgotten or left back in Philly. Her head was in the clouds or distracted by the phone ringing yet again that she didn't realize that she wasn't looking where she was going until she felt her body hit another. "Shit. I'm so sorry," she apologized but her face dropped and her heart fell into her stomach and then some when she realized who it was that she had ran into. It felt like her air ways were tightening and her hands shook slightly. "Foster" was all she could muster up as her eyes raked his face. He looked exactly the same but more mature. The years did him good and all of their memories came flooding to the surface. Her heart breaking all over again at the sight of the one that got away.

closed starter for @drewhayes location: a random park because why not New place, new Calina. That's what she keeps trying to remind herself and that meant finally signing up for some dating apps. It wasn't like she hadn't tried over the years but her daughter was more important than her dating life. She had taken a series of pictures the night before and while she watched her daughter play in the distance, she held her phone out to the first available male she saw. "Tell me the truth. Would you swipe right?"

closed starter for @lenakaplan location: the tipsy whale Being behind the bar was a complete different feel than being in front of it but truth be told, she actually quite enjoyed it. There was something about getting her hands dirty that she felt good about; it hadn't ever happened before. Her parents money was the source of her stability for so long that it felt freeing to be able to make her own money and have something to show for it. She was finishing up a drink order when she spotted a familiar brunette walking in and the smile on her face lit up. "No shit. Lena?" Immediately, she stepped from behind the bar and gave the other woman a hug. "God it's been forever. How the hell are you?"

closed starter for @sanem-yavuz location: little dipper spa "Hey, do you happen to sell like gift certificates for services?" Calina asked, her hands settling on the top of the front desk at the spa. It felt serene in here and with her aunt basically taking her and her child in and giving them a fresh start, it was the least that she could do for her. "I'm trying to do something nice for my aunt but honestly have no idea where to start. What would you recommend?"

closed starter for @elspethsalazar location: celestial ink While Calina was out running some errands, she got a call from her aunt about getting her wallet back from celestial ink where she had been the night before. Since she was close, she decided to stop by and grab it before heading to the store. She had been to this tattoo shop once or twice before when she would visit but it had been almost a decade. The bell above the door jingled as she walked in, a smile on her face. "Hey, I'm Cal. My aunt Keelin left her wallet here last night and was asking me to pick it up. Please tell me you still have it."

closed starter for @ayseldurmaz location: durmez acres One of the many perks of being in Half Moon Bay was the fact that there were farms and animals, unlike in Philly. It was completely different and while she had no idea where this new life was going to take her, she was going to make sure that she enjoyed the memories. Especially when it came to her daughter. And something that her daughter loved more than anything else was horses and now that they were here, they had the opportunity. When she arrived at Durmez Acres, she couldn't help but smile. Her daughter was going to love this. Going to the first person she saw, she gave the other woman a small smile. "Hey. I don't know if this is something you do but do you guys happen to do tours or like horse riding for children? My daughter is obsessed with horses and I wanted to come find out before surprising her."

closed starter for @jackson-darby location: cameron's pub Calina had only been in town for a few days but when her aunt offered to watch her daughter so she could get out and explore her newfound home, she couldn't say no. Of course, she could have gone to The Tipsy Whale but since that was going to be her job going forward, she figured why not explore the other hot spots in town and Caeron's pub was on her radar. As soon as she walked in and saw the couple making out by the door, she sighed and headed to the bar. "I get we're in a bar and inhibitions are down but we don't need a free show," she muttered to the guy behind the bar, her eyes still on the couple. "Tell me that doesn't happen often."

Name: Calina Duval Faceclaim: Greta Onieogou Gender/Pronouns: cis female, she/her Age: 30 years old Birthday: July 15th, 1993 Birthplace: Philadelphia, PA Sexuality: Bisexual Relationship Status: Single Occupation: Bartender and co-owner at The Tipsy Whale Neighborhood: Montara Positive: Adventurous, Outgoing, Determined Negative: Jealous, Naïve, Overthinking, Stubborn
Calina Duval was a miracle baby. Leylah and Jeremiah Duval had been married fresh out of high school but it took them over six years to get pregnant. They were in the process of looking to adopt when Leylah missed her period and the at home test confirmed that she was pregnant. The next nine months seemed to go by quicker than either of the pair expected and before they knew it, their daughter was born weighing in at seven pounds. She was a good baby; hardly fussed and all smiles around anybody that gave her attention.
From the time that Calina was young, she was taught that appearances meant everything and she never left the house without her hair done and her outfit absolutely wrinkle free and straight as can be. It was something that her mother instilled in her and she always made sure that she was ready at any given time of the day to go out even if she knew beforehand that she wasn’t going to do anything. Her mother was the prime example of a housewife and someone that Calina looked up to.
Growing up in a Christian home, Calina followed strict rules when it came to everything. She had a set schedule and it was something that was rarely missed. Every morning she would wake up, take a shower and eat breakfast before getting ready and going to school. After school, she was enrolled into dance classes and would attend those five days a week. After dance, she came home to do her homework and help her mother with dinner before she was promptly in bed at 9pm every night without fail. School, dance, and church was essentially what Calina’s life consisted of and she wouldn’t have had it any other way. In fact, she liked sticking to a set schedule and staying with it because it showed her discipline and resistance.
But as she got older, her parents become increasingly overbearing and treated her as if she wasn’t capable of making her own decisions. So when she could, she would sneak out and party until she couldn’t remember anything. She always made sure that she was home before her parents knew what was going on and kept up with appearances when she was needed. It wasn’t as if she didn’t appreciate her parents but they were set in their ways and Calina wanted to be free. And when she was eighteen, she met a boy with a band and everything changed. He was a breath of fresh air and it was almost instantaneously that she knew he was going to be in her life for good. She begged him to stay in Philly instead of going to the next town and maybe she was being selfish when asking but at the time she hadn’t ever wanted someone as much as she did him.
The next few years were something out of a movie for Calina and she had fallen head over heels for Matty. He had a future planned and she wanted nothing more than to be a part of it. She was sick of being what her parents wanted and she wanted to run away with him so she had her bags packed and ready to go but weeks before she started to feel sick and after going to the doctors she found out that she was two months pregnant. Her parents found out before she had even made it home and threw a fit as it wasn’t a good image to be pregnant and not married. They kept her locked away from the world and in turn she had to break it off with Matty - a decision that she regrets fo this day - but he was going places. He had a future and she didn’t so she let him go despite wanting nothing more than for him to stay.
Seven months later and their baby girl was born. Calina’s parents told everyone that her daughter was actually theirs and for so long she told the lie. Everyone on the outside knew the lie but thankfully her and her daughter had the best of bonds. They grew up together and after years of feeling inadequate in being a mother compared to what her own mother had accomplished at her age, she packed her bags and headed to Half Moon Bay to stay with her aunt. Her aunt was estranged from the family due to her wild nature and her and Calina were more alike than her and her own mother. Her aunt owns The Tipsy Whale and put Calina as a co owner of the business long before she even knew about it. She’s not sure what this life is going to be but she’s determined for it to be a good one for her daughters sake.
