when I see something dated 2019 I think “oh that’s not too long ago” and then I remember that 2019 was not only five years ago but those five years have somehow contained several lifetimes

Zeytin, American Eskimo Dog/Poodle mix (5 m/o), Lafayette & Kenmare St., New York, NY • “Shes from a rescue. I was fostering her – she was a puppy mill dog. Zeytin means ‘olive’ in Turkish. She’s very friendly. Too friendly, I’ll say. She especially loves people.” @zeytinkirac

I know European Starlings are not everybody’s favourite in America (for good reason, and I know it is not the bird’s fault), but can we for a moment sit down and admire their most beautiful plumage?

Ruby, Golden Retriever (4 y/o), Brooklyn Heights Promenade, Brooklyn, NY • “She’s super friendly, and way more interested in people than she is other dogs. We got her a week before COVID started. We have a one year old daughter now, and she’s an angel with her. She’s never destroyed anything – she’s usually pretty good, but a little bit of a beggar now. My daughter encourages her. When we first got her we were trying to make her a little Instagram famous – we got up to a couple thousand, but once they’re not puppies anymore it takes a lot more effort.” @bigcityruby
