hey y'all, just wanna give a heads up that i am slow when it comes to replying. i don't know if this will always be the case, but my mood is very fickle, i'm a perfectionist and i prefer to write lengthy replies. not only does writing the reply itself take a while usually, but also proof reading, editing, making sure everything makes sense and is grammatically correct and all that. sorry about this! i am usually lurking tho.

truth be told, gohan found it difficult to be at ease when it was just the two of them because the onus of making sure that his daughter has a good time and was well taken care of would be squarely on him, and he couldn't look to videl at any moment of uncertainty. however, these times were necessary; it was imperative that he develop parental skills and learn and grow as a father without needing constant guidance. aware of this, he'd feign confidence for his daughter's sake, be the leader and example he was meant to be, seem certain and strong, and hopefully, one day, it'll all come naturally. what will most likely thwart his endeavors, though, was his tendency to overthink, overanalyze and get caught up in his mind which only ever benefitted him when he was sitting behind a desk and never anywhere else, most likely because it was never needed anywhere else.

still, even if it was an inhibitor in cases like these, it just meant that he cared. he wanted to do right by his flesh and blood, give her the absolute best childhood a kid could have, ensure she always felt loved, wanted and cherished to the utmost. it took some time, but eventually he did realize that their time together did not require meticulous planning, just him following her whims and instincts and curiosity (provided that they wouldn't get her into any trouble, needless to say) and letting her explore what this beautiful planet has to offer, all the while answering any questions she may have and keeping her safe.

they ended up having quite the eventful, spontaneous day, and pan used up all of her ki by flying at high speeds, and he exhausted himself by chasing after her but fortunately he wasn't completely depleted thus he was able to wrap her in his arms and carry her home. though, she told him to stop so they could behold the awe-inspiring spectacle that was the sun setting on the horizon, emitting a vibrant orange glow, and they became immersed in a calm and peaceful state of presence as they enjoyed it.

he took a moment to look at the girl in his arms, his beautiful girl, and how captivated she was, having wide eyes and a smile on her face. his smile grew even bigger because of hers. as delightful as nature could be in itself, the best part of it to him was witnessing the reactions of his little one because not only was she adorable, but seeing that she was happy strengthened his belief in himself as a father, assured him that he was being the one that she deserved by exposing her to the wonders of the world.

he's heard the whispers from his father, piccolo and everyone else who has caught so much as a glimpse of his fighting prowess — that there was formidable, raw power deep within, a staggering amount of latent potential, and he could go far, perhaps farther than the likes of his father and vegeta who were among the strongest in the universe. however, gohan did not know whether to interpret that as a good thing or a bad thing. of course he wanted to be able to protect his loved ones and planet from any threat that emerges in the future, but at the same time...he'd rather not have a reputation of fearsome. he'd rather not find out what he was truly capable of to the fullest extent in the realm of violence. but alas...sometimes, circumstances could force anyone to do what was necessary, even if it wasn't desired, even if it wasn't ideal.

this being said, training was way outside of his comfort zone regardless of his natural talent. it'd bring about a sense of pride or accomplishment in a fighter who actually loved fighting, but for gohan who had the skill though not the heart for it, every flash of brilliance, every display of development scared him. he'd try to crack a smile for his father each time there was some sort of breakthrough, but he probably saw that those smiles were too tight-lipped to be genuine, hence the question.

❛ um... ❜ was the only utterance that gohan could manage in the moment after being made aware that he was doing a poor job at masking his emotions. he wasn't surprised by that per se, just that he was called out on it so abruptly, albeit not in an aggressive manner at all, but rather, with such a gentleness that one would expect from so loving a father that it almost coaxed gohan into telling the truth, but then he had to remind himself that the truth may disappoint him given his sheer passion for fighting, and the last thing a child would ever want to do was disappoint their parent.

so, his answer was a lie but for the sake of keeping things comfortable — maybe not comfortable for himself but for their relationship. as much as being a fighter and all that it entails hurt, he imagined that the hurt that would come from his father thinking any less of him would not be even remotely comparable. he was willing to endure the pain, the discomfort, the agony, the heartache — anything and everything that comes with fighting if it meant that his father would remain happy with him. ❛ nothing! just tired, that's all. ❜ he made sure to put conscious effort into mustering up a smile that might convincingly express 'contentment', as well as making his voice sound a bit more animated, in hopes to ease his father's concerns and suspicions.

⋆ while i prefer dragon ball and dragon ball z, i have absolutely no problem with writing with characters that originate from super, gt or any other spin-off. though, i kindly ask for your patience because i have not seriously watched or read much of anything related to dragon ball that's been released in more recent times, and i'm not sure if i want to, quite frankly. i keep up to date with the video games and movies for the most part, but i'm aware they may not give the full picture. so, i will use whatever available information you have of your muse on your blog, as well as do my own research if need be, as to get an idea of how mine would interact with yours. i apologize in advance if i'm rusty or forget important details!
