#YES was gonna say disco elysium before scrolling down and seeing prev did as well#DE lets you [both player and Main Character] make wildly different choices when interacting w/ characters#that shows you all these glimmers of personality and life in them (depending on your choices) BUT#no matter what you do most of those interactions still go the same kinda way. because you're still a famously unstable and volatile cop.#and they're afraid of you.#both the player and harry quickly become aware of how much power they have over the proceedings#while ALSO being forced to realise by the end of the game how devastatingly powerless they are in the bigger picture#harry's a big fish in a small pond but that pond is actually a barrel. if the people taking aim don't kill him the stagnant water will.#the wide range of choices that keep you circling the same drain is a big part of disco I think.#harry being equally capaple of any combo of copotypes and political views is a huge part of his character that wouldn't work elsewhere#which applies to a lot of video games that 'make you' make the pov characters do things [like off mouthwashing deltarune etc]#and yes it completely rewired my brain while I was in a depressive episode about everything being devastatingly out of my control#i think in part bc it didn't have any answers. sometimes it's just bad and will stay bad if not worse. but you've gotta keep going.#disco elysium
