Ooh good question
Not sure is it was Eminem or Lil Wayne who wrote it for their No Love collab but I the lines
"my bars are full of broken bottles And my night stands are full of open Bibles"
tell a complete story all on their own.
That said Dylan will always be lyricaly incredible
In idiot wind. "I can't even touch the books you've read" you can feel all the bitterness in that line. "One day you'll be in the ditch flies buzzing around your eyes, blood on your saddle"
I often don't pay attention to lyrics, at least not on the first several listens to songs, but there are a few songwriters that strike me. What are your fave lyricists and why?

Techno making Phil laugh from day one. Emerald duo my beloved!
Little bit random, but as far as I can tell this is the earliest direct interaction between Philza and Technoblade on stream. It's from Minecraft Monday 4, weeks before they teamed up with each other. It's almost certainly one of the first times they talked. Also it's a really fun little interaction, I'm not sure why it doesn't seem to feature in any clip compilations I've seen.

A thousand times this. And yes I want my characters, male and female, problematic as all fuck. I want them to make bad choices and have weakness and make people think about morality and growth and backsliding. there's nothing compelling about perfect people living bland problem free lives
IDGAF if the women in my fiction are empowering or aspirational, I'm an adult, I don't need role models, I want the women in my fiction to be interesting, and if that involves being pathetic, hypocritical, amoral, or trapped in a delightfully dysfunctional relationship so be it

Often those most inclined to this sort of attitude are also most vocal about what they are owed. It's all about "my rights" without any "my responsibilities"
“i don’t owe anyone anything” is one of the most incredibly callous and damaging phrases to enter popular vernacular. you owe everyone kindness and consideration, always. understand the idea of a social contract. you cannot reap the benefits of human society and interaction while maintaining such a cold and thankless attitude about it. i mean you can but you’d be a bad person for it

one thing I've thought about the diaries is that they are undeniably woke (and I say that as someone who thinks woke is a good thing). But Wells allows the gender identities, sexual orientations, ethnicities, neuro divergence and poly relationships to at once be front and center of the novel and yet somehow utterly incidental in their normalcy.
And I think it's the few words thing that makes that work so well, the way Wells doesn't labour any points and never preaches but just wraps it all up into a narrative that's quick and compelling.
One thing I really appreciate about Martha Wells’ writing is how she manages to do so much with so few words.

Listening to Fugitive Telemetry and was giggling for a solid 5 minutes over the scene with the old escape pod thing the "bag"
"I'd just haver to trust the stupid bag"
"my bag was now blorping it's way down there hull"
Kevin Free delivers those sorts of likes perfectly

i get this and I agree to a large extent but isn't Wells involved in the show? If they're happy then we should probably not pass judgment too early.
Unless they drop the drone army murder bot carries in all its many pockets, then I'll riot.
Congratulations to Martha Wells, who very much deserves that sweet Hollywood cash for her years in the midlist SFF author mines. A big fucking No Thank You to casting a cis white dude as Murderbot, I guess lest we miss out on a TV show reassuring us that cis white men are people too.

Absolutely loved the Slow Horses tv series very very good stuff. But I recently read the first book and I do now have a gripe. In Slough House Book1 (Slow horses) Hassan saves himself from his captors. I love this, I love that the victim escaped on his own without the arrival of the cavalry. I know it makes better TV to have the heroes rushing in with a chopper overhead and everything but it steals the individual courage and resourcefulness of the secondary character (the ordinary person). Not to mention feels a little white saviour-y But still incredible show, love Oldman so much.
#slow horses#given the secondary characters a chance to save themselves#gary oldman#also a big fan of sexy simon pegg

i also post fanfic because I want to read fanfic. If everything guarded their art (yikes that sounds pretentious) as jealously as this ask then there'll be nothing to read
Posting is giving back to the fandom or community
Dude, are you having some kind of mental breakdown?
What's with all these distraught There Is No Such Thing As Community And Joy asks?
Maybe there isn't for you right now, but if so, it's because you're relentlessly negative and impervious to reality.

it's interesting how without murder bot ever being physically described most people draw it as male looking. (I love the art and pictured it that way too, I'm not throwing shade, and of course no sex parts means no boobies so it does make sense from a body shape pov)
In one of the books it says a character's skin is the 'mid brown that's most common to humans''. It seems likely The Company™ would try and match that common skin colour. (I confess I pictured white, I think we all see versions of ourselves in anything that goes undescribed which is obvious but interesting and possibly deliberate on the authors part. Or perhaps media™ is so packed with white action heroes we're programmed to view it that way)
So I'm going to try and reimagine my mental version of MB to be brown skinned and flat chested and feminine looking. Just in time for the TV show to give us a viking.
also in terms of the murderbot show i wish they’d picked someone a different idk. actually more specifically maybe not a white middle aged man. but whatever. like a katy o’brien, rami malek, sonoya mizuno, or even like lakeith stanfield without his beard could all pull off the strong/stoic vibes while also infusing dry humor

"take influence from murderbot" is a good way to think about it. I'm listening to book 5 now and constantly trying to imagine how they're realised a story or scene.
The drones murderbot uses might make some cool action scenes though with then flying in formation around him and whizzing off to run recon.
I'm still excited but it's going to be such a long time
Just discovered and am immediately obsessed with the Murderbot Diaries. Very excited for a tv show but am concerned about a) how they'll convey murderbot's sardonic internal dialogue, social anxiety, and media addiction b) casting one of the world's hottest men as a genderless secunit, that said I love Skarsgård as an actor as well as person of extreme pretty so hopefully he'll pull it off. c) also, I'll accept a white murderbot because his colouring isn't specified (at least not to book 4) so its whatever but most of the human characters are described as dark skinned in the books so the cast better reflect that That said I can't wait for this show
