I feel that as long as the Shire lies behind, safe and comfortable, I shall find wandering more bearable: I shall know that somewhere there is a firm foothold, even if my feet cannot stand there again.

The Ancient Greek word for ship was ναῦς. The word is borderline obsolete in Modern Greek, except the majority of seafaring terms actually derive from it.
For example,
ναύτης (náftis) = sailor
ναυτικό (naftikó) = navy <- that’s where the English word originates too
ναυπηγείο (nafpiyío) = shipyard
ναύλα (návla) = ticket for a mode of transportation, especially ships
The common Modern Greek terms for ship are πλοίο (plío) and καράβι (karávi).
Πλοίο comes from the verb πλέω (pléo) which means “float and sail” and it is also etymologically Greek.
I mostly make this post for καράβι which I was convinced to this day that it was a loanword, perhaps from Turkish or Latin.
Today I learned that καράβι too is etymologically Greek, from Koine Greek καράβιον (karávion), from Ancient Greek κάραβος (kárabhos) which meant “prawn”.
A little stupid of me because even the modern Greek word for prawn is καραβίς (karavís) or more commonly now καραβίδα (karavíða) but somehow I never made the connection.
So once again Greeks had the exact word for ship but at some point in time they went nah fook that from now on we gonna call ships
✨Prawn-ions✨

Enchanting Your Plushies For Good Sleep (A Simple Spell) by Velvet Rose
PURPOSE: To help ward off nightmares and bring peaceful sleep.
DISCLAIMER: Don’t do this spell if you’re allergic to lavender.
SUPPLIES:
-Your plushie of choice
-1 drop lavender essential oil
-Moon water (preferably waning moon but any is good) 2 cups
-A spray bottle
INSTRUCTIONS:
-Cast a circle or do whatever ritual you consider protective before doing this spell. For low effort circle casting spin around clockwise with your index finger pointed outwards and say “I call upon the elements quickly, fill this circle with your good energy.”
-Sit on the ground within the circle with your supplies around you. Charge the moon water in the spray bottle by speaking this incantation over it. “Breath of my lungs, a peaceful exhale, ripple this water and charge it without fail. Only dreams that are gentle in nature, can fill my sleep oh so sweet.”
-Breathe onto the moon water so that it ripples.
-Next drop one drop of lavender into the moon water thats in the spray bottle. Say “Lavendula my lovely essence, my mind soothes from your soft presence.”
-Screw the spray bottle/mister top on and hold it close to your heart. Say 9 times the following. “Now i bless you three times three. Tonight i will have restful sleep.”
-Take your plushie and give it a hug, and sprits it from about a foot away with the spray you just made.
-Close the circle or do whatever ritual you wish to close the spell. For a low effort circle closing spin counter clockwise with your index finger pointed outwards saying “I call upon the elements here, close this circle and disappear. Thank you.”
IT IS DONE! Yay! Now sleep well!
-Velvet Rose 🌹
