Luke Newton fans, please comment so he’s not forgotten!
I love all the success that Bridgerton S3 is getting, but PLEASE can we leave comments on this article reminding the author that Luke Newton also starred in this season? It’s one thing to have a preference for Nicola or even an article that’s just about her achievements but it’s another to set the standard of mentioning both leads when writing up the other seasons and then to leave him out entirely when writing about season 3. THIS is a snub. Colin was THE Bridgerton, it was Luke’s season too.

New, old interview with Luke?
https://x.com/itssmeeellee/status/1869282913189294447
Seems as though we have WT content coming out that we haven't seen and/ or extended versions of old footage.
Possible reasons?
1-a 6 month press embargo is up
2- Shondaland is releasing interview & bts footage to keep interest in BTON up going into 2025
3- Lukola interview snippets released by their teams to hint toward their offscreen relationship/ coupledom
4-Footage of Luke from their teams to let him take the lead as Nic takes leave
5-It's an end of year dump from all sources of unused footage
Since we aren't getting a through line for the content, it could be a mix of reasons!
This interview doesn't give any Lukola hints (except that Luke can't help but smile every time Nic is mentioned) - but, enjoy! ⬇️

Good points...
Recently I have been reflecting on the world tour and I have been asking myself, why Galway? I mean, I get it, in simple terms, Galway is Nicola’s hometown but why did Netflix decide that it was the right place to stop for the world tour?
I ask this because Galway is really about Nicola. It’s not about Bridgerton, it’s not about Penelope, it’s not about Colin or Luke, it’s about Nicola. Also, the way they did Galway on the world tour was very focused on Nicola. It was her favourite places, favourite things and a focus on her family (particularly her mum) in the evening session. To me, it’s an unusual stop on a world tour about a show that has nothing to do with Galway, when Galway is such a small town and the show has two lead characters and they didn’t go to his home town or talk about his favourite things or include footage of his family.
I haven’t followed many promotional tours before but they certainly did nothing like that in prior seasons of Bridgerton and I haven’t seen anything like it in any other press tours, e.g. the recent press tour for wicked, as hyped as that was, they didn’t go to any of the actors home towns, examine their favourite things from their home town or start talking about their families etc. It was all very focussed on the show, the making of the show and the relationships between the actors.
Anyway, I liked the Galway section of the tour but I can’t help but keep thinking that it was an unusual choice from a PR perspective. I feel like they almost invited us into the most intimate aspects of Nicola’s life and then we all felt part of it, but now I am wondering if she is struggling with how involved many of us seem to be.
Anyway, I would be interested to hear if any of you have any theories to answer my question: why Galway?

Truth.
Luke Newton is being snubbed.
I don’t need to be a journalist from an industry publication to call it out. It goes beyond this one nomination, it’s how he’s been downplayed since the season dropped. So I’ll say it. He is being snubbed.
So let’s talk about Luke’s portrayal of Colin, and why it does him a disservice to not acknowledge his work.
Colin, as written for the show, shines in the hands of Luke Newton. A lesser actor would not be able to create the layered performance that Luke developed with both the brilliant authenticity of our Colin (Penelope’s Colin) and the cloying insincerity of Rake Colin back from his adventures and ready to flirt his insecurities away. He’s a deeply endearing performer, playing up Colin’s doubts, confusions and hurt in a way that makes you root for him, and cheer when he returns to himself fully in the carriage scene. That his character is so well defined over the seasons that the show was able to create a sense of longing for the “old” Colin right alongside Penelope’s longing for him, is a testament to Luke’s deep understanding of his character. He plays the discomfort Colin has with the persona he’s created, capped off by his frustrated monologue about the loneliness of playing the part.
His nuanced use of emotions stack together, turning moments that could be intimidating anger towards Penelope in the hands of a lesser actor into disbelief, pain, grief, and pleading all rolled into one. Colin was a character that is in his own head a lot, and STILL Luke managed to give us a window into what he was thinking every time.
He makes Colin Bridgerton seem like a real person, walking through life as it comes at him, in the most naturalistic acting performances in the entire series. He doesn’t chew scenery, he isn’t performative or flashy. He just IS Colin, which is such a difficult thing to achieve in Bridgerton’s heightened reality with its heightened stakes.
As a romantic lead, Luke delivers. His memetic “suicidal” jealousy and yearning, his comedic descent into awkwardness around Pen and his well earned praise for turning a controversial moment from the book into a perfectly delivered “Will you marry me or not?” that made people swoon with giddiness rather than roll their eyes at his presumption. He approached every intimate scene with a reckless disregard for his own ego, acting fully in the moment and allowing such vulnerability to come across on screens that people felt like they were intruding on a real encounter between two people going at it.
And Luke had an important role to play. The romance of each season of Bridgerton really hinges on these love declarations and he NAILS the carriage scene. The buildup of his desperate begging, his confession and then his brief despair and return to politeness when he’s told he’s just a friend was MASTERFUL. Luke goes through every emotion the heart and mind can create in the carriage scene, and he nails every single one of them, and the scene would fall apart if he didn’t, that scene was built around his emoting. And then he follows it up with the final love confession, where Luke pulls out the biggest puppy dog eyes, filled to the brim with love and pride and a quiet confidence that makes it stick the landing.
The season simply would not be the romantic season it is without Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton. It’s beyond time to respect his contribution to such a popular season and such a popular couple.

Yep..
I know it’s a long shot, but I haven’t given up on hoping Luke gets nominated for a Golden Globe. Why should I give up hope yet? The nominations aren’t out yet but “fans” have already stopped talking about his chances even though they know he was submitted too. I feel like as his fan this is the time to hype him up the most! I’m still allowed to hope, and further I’m also allowed to be critical of the constant snubbing and dismissing of his talents.
Ultimately I know being snubbed for Bridgerton doesn’t mean he’s untalented or won’t have a bright future- Phoebe and Jonathan are doing just fine critically and they didn’t get nominated for their roles on Bridgerton either- but I would’ve liked to see him benefit from his work in S3 in a very direct way. His season was a massive success and he gets no recognition for it at all, it’s so frustrating to watch as his fan. I know some people can be happy with specifically him getting nothing from this as long as “Polin” in general is recognized in some way but I’m not. Playing Colin Bridgerton really is the most thankless role in the show.

So I recently re-listened to the Still Watching by Vanity Fair podcast episode titled Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2: Three’s Company that Luke Newton was interviewed on (highly recommend people check it out if they haven’t his interview is so good!) and I am just blown away by how fucking kind and sensitive Luke is. Like of course he’s human and flawed as no one’s perfect but like in that interview he’s constantly complimenting not only Nicola but also Jonathan Bailey and Simone for how graciously they led the show in season 2 and he admired them and the previous leads as well. And how thoughtful he is in his portrayal of Colin and how he loves the character for his kindness and sensitivity. He also touches on masculinity and how Colin had a twisted idea of what being a man is because of his Dad’s death and how Anthony dealt with running the household and how this season was his journey with his relationship with Penelope and how she helps him unlearn that and accepting he is enough and how he is is strength not a weakness. And he compliments Jess as Cressida and Claudia and he’s so sweet and you just can really tell he really does respect women like Nicola says. He talks a lot about intimacy scenes and consent and tenderness being so so sexy. And I just I can really feel Nicolas assessment of him being just a really good dude who respects women and is so kind. He literally talks about the privilege to act alongside Nicola. All that to say I really do think all the SM hate he hit was so unfair and I absolutely understand why Nicola ran to defend him. It also highlights how ridiculous the narrative of them beefing on social media is. Like obviously all people have fights regardless of friendship or romance but these two have such respect and admiration for one another they def aren’t gonna shade each other on social media for the world to scrutinize. Even their tension in Italy you still saw later that day in the photoshoots how happy and giggly they still were with one another so they clearly got past or worked through it together. Also in the interview he talked AGAIN about how much he enjoys playing in love Colin and how he really looks forward to Season 4 to be able to have that vibe and be even more rom com with Nicola. I just hope he does know that’s it not the majority of the fans and he deserves good things.
We stan Luke Newton around here.
If you don’t………idk why you’re here lol

A lot of good points 🙌
I know that he might be happy as he is, but I would love Luke to reach the big time like Jonathan. What do you think he needs to do in order to do so? I know he's filming in Rome at the moment; but just seems like things haven't clicked with him, even post season 3.
I think it's difficult to say what the key to success and becoming people's favourite these days, and often I don't understand why certain actors become that popular... Could name lots of examples in the recent years too. It's probably a chance of fate, as in the right project at the right time and striking people's fleeting interest (see Joseph Quinn after ST4, to name one).
So, honestly, I think he just needs to keep working. If it works out, it works out. But at the same time, I genuinely don't think Luke wants to be an A-lister. He might happier on the stage.
At the same time, I won't lie about the fact that I don't understand why people haven't fallen for him after season 3. For me he was perfect, considering the material that left to desire for him. But then I'll never get why RJP was such a hit, so... the public has a mind of its own. There's no point in comparison, all we can do is support him, and hope he does what makes him happy.

Yes, yes, and yes 🙌
I’ll never forget that Luke Newton is half of what made this season so successful. I know people like to forget, or act like he’s an afterthought or a plus one. But he sold me on Polin since “What a barb,” he made believable chemistry during the promo tour that drove people wild (too wild, but that’s another story) and he made such magic during the season that even his fingers went viral. He deserves credit for the wonderful work he’s done, and wonderful actor he is. 🩵🩵🩵
