i need to talk about shahid's design. disregarding the butchering of the writing in three hopes, disregarding how little we know about him as a character, all of that aside. focusing exclusively on what he looks like. he is a caricature, plain and simple. many of the people of colour in three houses are caricatures, at least a little bit. shahid is more obviously a caricature because he is a character the player is supposed to dislike, and therefore they made his design "ugly". he is given those exaggerated features other character designs lack to dehumanize him so we feel less bad about killing him.

i wanted to make very minimal edits to shahid's portrait just to show how easily fewth could've made him look less like a caricature and more like an actual character.

(and yes, i know fire emblem has a history of making caricatures in their character designs. this isn't an exception to that. i dislike all caricatures on principle and wish all of those characters were treated better. i may or may not make more edits redeeming racist character designs. i'm just mad about shahid especially today.)

what if claude got all the joy, whimsy, and silliness drained out of him by being forced into the dukedom against his will? devoid of the presence of any of his friends (or boyfriend), completely alone at the top of the world. this is stuff that @merlyybird hasn't even written yet in their fic and yet i am totally enraptured by the concept. i can't wait for claude to have a terrible horrible disastrous time without lorenz or hilda at his side
