Barry sank onto the sofa and rested his elbows against his knees, his thoughts spinning in circles. Chester had mentioned Snart, and Barry couldn’t help but wonder what other things had changed since they’d recreated the universe. He shouldn’t go looking. It never turned out well when he did.

A quick fill for the “How might Len surprise Barry on his birthday?” prompt on @coldflashweeks​. (A week late because writer’s block is a bitch.)

“Barry, be careful. Cold has to be somewhere in that building. I’ve traced the sig—”

Cisco’s voice abruptly went quiet the second Barry stepped through the door. Weird. Barry frowned and poked his earpiece, but the radio stayed dead. Not even static, just silence.

Great.

It was the worst time for a communication blackout. Barry had been out all night rushing from one Flash duty to the next, and while having his team in his ear was always reassuring, he would have needed their guidance a lot more now that he was about to face Snart than he had earlier when he was getting Mrs. Menzel’s cat down from the apple tree in her backyard.

As if summoned by Barry’s apprehension, Snart stepped around a corner, right into Barry’s line of sight. He didn’t look like he was spoiling for a fight, his goggles pulled down and his Cold Gun aimed upwards, lazily resting against his shoulder. For once, he wasn’t even wearing his trademark parka.

Barry allowed himself a second or two to stealthily appreciate what a striking figure Snart cut in a form-fitting black turtleneck and criminally tight jeans, before he sped off to grab the Cold Gun. Or at least that was what he meant to do.

He reached for the Speed Force, but nothing happened.

The lightning he was used to have coursing through his body failed to come. Without the momentum, it was like his feet were tripping over an invisible wire while his body lunged forward. Stumbling, Barry barely managed to stop himself from falling on his face.

What the—

“Looks like the Scarlet Speedster isn’t quite so speedy today,” Snart drawled, satisfaction in his tone as he watched Barry’s struggle to stay on his feet.

THE FLASH S06E11 | “Love Is A Battlefield”

you have to wonder if the greatest mystery in central city isn’t the alien invasions, dark matter explosions, or the physics-defying feats of powered meta humans, but just straight up the life of this one random crime scene investigator in the city police department

how his dad was famously sent to prison for his mom’s murder, discovered to have been framed the entire time, exonerated, disappeared, returned, and then died himself; meanwhile, the csi guy was fostered as a kid by a detective in the city police department, whose daughter dated his partner for a while until the partner died on the job, along with the science tech entrepreneur who turned out to be the fraud behind star labs and the real muderer of csi guy’s mother; meanwhile, the csi guy spends most of his non-work hours (and most of his work hours) at the now disgraced star labs even after all that shit went down with his mother’s real killer, because they had rescued him from a nine-month coma when he was struck by lightning, and even though the research think tank was responsible for over 90% of the actual science mysteries in town, its primary and apparently only staff members still consult for the central city police department despite recruiting a private investigator who was formerly a dirty cop in the department; meanwhile, the daughter started her own newspaper and reports on all the above, and is now married to the csi guy, who was later accused of murder and sentenced to jail himself, only to be exonerated when that guy ended up not even being dead; meanwhile 

honestly, if I was a central city resident I wouldn’t even bother subscribing to cable or a streaming platform, I’d just park myself up near the station or star labs and watch this insanity unfold before my very own background character eyes
