Sexually frustrated Mel who despite having a crush on Langdon since their first shift has kept her shit on lock because that man was married then in rehab and then divorced. She has been WAITING and allowing him to move on from being married to the most divorced man in the Pitt.

Everyone thinks they're dating. Everyone. Their coworkers, patients, random people on the street, even Abby (which Mel would admit she'd felt a bit smug about though she'd been incredibly nice and civil to her) think they are dating.

Only Frank won't act on his very obvious heart eyes or Mel's very carefully given hints. It's very frustrating.

So, Mel could not be blamed for being horny or for taking some matters into her own hands. If said matters happened just before she was supposed to meet Frank for dinner, that is supposed to be between her and her trusty vibrator. Because if she was going to get through this dinner (date! It is a dinner date even if Frank still twitches when she points that out. His red ears after are very obvious and telling, though) where she will want desperately to drag him back to her apartment for at least two orgasms each then maybe dessert but won't actually act on those fantasies because she's allowing Frank to take things at his own pace, she is at least going to get off beforehand. For her sanity.

Except Frank for the first time in his life is early. And when his texts to her saying so go unanswered, he lets himself into her place with the keys she'd given him months ago thinking she probably just got involved with some chore or other and hadn't heard her phone go off.

Frank comes through her front door with all the grace of his hyperactive puppy. He is so excited to see Mel and go to dinner with her on their shared day ofd that he doesn't really pause before practically exploding through her front door with a happy call of her name asking if she's ready.

Taken totally by surprise Mel fumbles her vibe accidentally pushing it a bit past where she can reach. She curses loudly. Which draws Frank straight to her bedroom concerned for her since Mel doesn't curse. Once more he bursts through her door with no grace but this time instead of her empty entry way he finds her on her bed flushed, breathing heavily, and oh fuck her hands are... Frank very suddenly needs to look somewhere else before he needs new pants and potentially an ice cold shower to drown himself in.

Mel, in the meantime, would have preferred a different first experience with Frank her bullet vibe. As it is she has to get him to breathe and help her get it out before she can't get her fingers at the right angle.

Frank turns an interesting shade of red when she says that out loud.

Frank had nice hands, a thought she'd definitely had before. Usually she tried not to notice them because often they were at work and that was incredibly unprofessional. But right now she desperately needs him to help her out. She'd tell him that they've both taken more mind boggling objects out of similar areas of the body before, but that doesn't seem helpful at calming him down, so this time she keeps that one to herself.

It takes a few minutes and Mel using her soft pleading voice to get Frank to kneel down at the side of her bed, big blue eyes looking everywhere but where she needs them. A harsh throb of the vibrator when she shifts towards him takes her breath away, and she tries very, very hard to hold still through the aftershocks.

Frank would very much like the floor to open up beneath him because he is a very perverted man and should not be getting off on any of this because Mel is in distress and he'd sworn to himself to be her Friend despite his feelings for her.

Not to fade to black, but he gets it out after some trial and error. They're both panting and staring at each other. Frank stammers out how he's so sorry for startling her and, well, causing everything that followed. Mel, who came once before Frank showed up and at least once on his fingers, is so over going slow and waiting for him to pick up how horrendously in love with him she is and kisses him. Suffice to say they don't make it to dinner until much later.

Thinking about the scene where Mel picks Becca up and how she is the only character we see out of proximity of the hospital. The writers really wanted us to see that, on top of the shift from hell, the realities of Mel being Becca’s carer, and the fact that she does not get to stop and rest the same way the others do. And she has no one else, personally, to share the load. The comment she made earlier about not needing much sleep and having a high metabolism? Oh, baby none of this is sustainable.

both taylor and patrick in interviews being like "????" about kingdon is so funny to me bc 1. back in my day we didn't care what the actors thought 2. they rlly had no idea what they were doing then 3. someone in that editing room has an agenda that none of us could ever comprehend and they're winning

listen. i LOVE the idea of Langdon pining after Mel for the longest time, thinking he doesn’t deserve. HOWEVER. i personally feel like that wouldn’t happen until much, much later. I think he would be in denial until the very last moment. lemme tell you, that man is an expert at repressing his feelings. he’s actually the final boss of repressed feelings.

his marriage failing? nah, he just needs to get the kids a puppy (he really deserves the death penalty for that one).

his pill addiction for which he’s jeopardizing his patient’s medical care and his career and relationships? nah, he’s just treating his back pain! he’s a doctor, knows what he’s doing & all that.

I honestly feel like he would repress his feelings for mel sooooo hard he convinces himself of like the wildest fucking stuff.

like yeah sure driving your mentee to & from work everyday is normal. (it’s a massive detour from his apartment. wtf)

being disappointed when you’re not working the same shift? it’s just bc mel is competent and that makes his job easier.

missing her when he’s at home, after a 12h shift from hell where they worked together attached by the hip all day? yeah, he’s just a little lonely after his divorce and she’s his friend. nothing to worry about.

langdon examining himself thinking he’s having a heart attack when he sees her with her hair down for the first time.

she tells him she’s going on a date on her day off and he can admit: he’s jealous. the same way single ppl are jealous of their married friends.

so what if he dreams of her? they spent a lot of time together. that makes sense his brain would do that. or something.

MEANWHILE Mel knows.

like she knows as clear as day that he has a crush on her. and at first she doesn’t mind it. it’s not like anything would happen. They don’t cross boundaries.

he has a lot to deal with and so does she. it’s nice to know that this attractive ass doctor likes her like that. until she gets to know him and they become friends.

she thinks this thing they have will fizzle out after a few months, or a few years but it doesn’t.

and now they’re in a place where it’s better. they’re both more settled and he’s been in recovery for a while and has a good co-parenting relationship with abby and everything is going well for their career.

except she’s getting frustrated now. this whole will they won’t they thing was cute the first year or two but now she’s getting impatient.

She makes it her goal to flirt with him and she loves seeing him flustered. But he just WON’T TAKE A FUCKING HINT. So maybe she just has to take matters into her own hands

how i *actually* want season two to go for langdon x mel

- langdon getting back to work and having to accept that no one really trust him anymore.

- losing robby’s mentorship and having to deal with the fact that he’s not the star resident anymore.

- feeling humiliated he has to pee in a cup everyday and get his locker checked. looooots of self-loathing.

- but then here comes mel. who treats him like he’s still a competent doctor and not a complete fuck up. who comes to him for help on more difficult cases, even though he thinks she can handle it on her own just fine.

- teaching her makes him feel like his job still makes sense. and it’s weird bc he never even liked teaching in the first place but just like that first day, he just clicks with mel really well.

- so he pours himself into their working relationship, and tries to be a good mentor. he tries to be to mel who robby was to him, once.

- he tries to make sure she’s doing okay. taking a break when needed, talking to him when something is bothering her. they trust each other.

- it’s not romantic (or is it). he’s still trying to make things work with abby (it’s not working) and he doesn’t even think about mel that way.

- but when it gets really hard, when all he can think about is how fucking amazing it’d feel to get high, just once, to feel all the noise quiet down again, it’s not abby or the kids he thinks of to stop himself from relapsing. he thinks of mel. Mel who trusts him and thinks he’s a good doctor. Mel who looks up to him as a mentor and a friend. He thinks of how devastating it would be if he were to disappoint her.

(- it’s not romantic. no, it’s so much worse than that)
