Mgla is a polish Black Metal Band that exists since 2000. They Play their Music with an epic,melodic approach but without beeing too complex with the Song-structures. They have a nice backcatalouge and their present Release "exercise in futility" are really high quality stuff. Mgla ( which means "fog" by the Way) are only performing live with hoodies and black facecovering masks. The lyrical themes are Overall dealing with darkness,Misanthropy and so on.

Record Review : Shining - Livets Ändhallplats. This is the second full length of the so called Originators of Suicidal Black Metal. Like the first record “Within Deep Dark Chambers” this has a fuzzy, second wavy sound. Unlike the Songs on their First Record, nearly all the lyrics on “Livets Ändhallplats” are written in swedish Language. The Atmosphere has a doomy, desolated Feeling that creates an epic,depressive monotony. The Vocals are most of the Time in the Same Range, which is maybe boring to some, but in my Option it makes perfectly Sense on this kind of Black Metal. There are just a few moments were the Tempo differs from slow,midtempo parts to fast norwegian Moments. Overall this was an important Album for Shining because it’s a step up from the sound of their earlier works. There are parts with acoustic/clean guitarsounds that brought more deepnes and a thicker approach on the songwriting. We have a few spoken word- passages and here and there you can make out some kind of haunting synthies. All in All this Record is a perfect example why Shining were such an important band for the suicidal/depressive genre. I got that Release as a Vinyl Repress by Osmose Productions. It comes in a gatefold with lyrics and credits on the Inside and a glossy finish on the logo up the front side. Black 180 gr vinyl which has a really good sound.

Mütiilation is another french band, that has formed in 1991. These Guys take the Sound of burzum and darkthrone as their main influence (like so Many…),which isn’t a Bad thing at all, if you do it right. Mütiilation did everything right and more…they are Part of the so called “Les Legions Noir” the black legions. This is a group of french Black Metal Bands that play the Same Style (2nd Wave influenced). Vlad Tepes is one of the other bands.

Ultha from Germany play Black Metal for all fans of cold atmospheres with a second wave feeling to it. They startet in 2014 and have Members that played in blackened-hc bands like Goldust and Planks which were kind of famous in the german underground scene. You Can hear the influence from classic Black/trash-bands like bathory. This shows of on the new split-ep with Morast, in which Both bands cover bathory-classics.

Atmospheric/depressive Black Metal from Down Under...Drowning The Light! This is more or less a one-man project that was founded in 2003 by Azgorh, who is known from bands like Black Funeral or Wolfblood. This project lives from the depressive and melancholic atmospheres it creates. Drowning The Light have released countless lp's,ep's,demo's and comp's. I will review Some of them later.
